So I decided to do another favourites post since January was a very fun month and I read a bunch of new books and got into a bunch of awesome music! Here are my January favourites.

My Favourite Books

I haven’t really read those many books this month since my school started and I’ve been pretty busy actually but I read these three and I absolutely loved them. Dyan Sheldon, John Green and Khaled Hosseini are some of my favorite writers and these books were really amazing.

And Baby Makes Two by Dyan Sheldon

This book is not just another YA novel. Well technically it is but it is completely different from all the others that I have read. Unlike most YA novels that I have read where teens are shown to be deep and smart, this one shows a fifteen year old girl who is sometimes naïve and sometimes just stupid. Her mom who is at times controlling but who does it for her own good is somehow saddening to read about.

So the book pretty much revolves around the fifteen year old Lana who gets pregnant and faces some harsh realities of life and is brought down to earth. If you want to read my full review for this book click here.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

I love this book so much that I decided to reread it for like the third time. Each time I read it I always end up having tears in my eyes. Hosseini’s amazing and raw description teamed with the amazing plot and loveable characters is what make this book incredible.

This book shows us a different side of Afghanistan, one we are not shown by the media. Set in the 1970’s, this book reveals the damage done by the Russians. The book is about a young boy who makes a mistake that will change his life forever and continue to haunt him throughout his youth. He goes back to Afghanistan hoping to right his wrongs only to find out about some horrific things that have happened since he left the country. He must now fight unlike what he did before and he must finally face his demons. If you want to read my full review for this book click here.

Looking For Alaska by John Green

This book just brought out so many emotions in me by the time I was done I just wanted to lie in bed for a few days and do absolutely nothing. This book is about a boy Miles who meets a girl called Alaska. From the moment he lays his eyes on her he knows there’s something about her.

He is instantly interested in her and soon finds out she is a very deep but unhappy young girl. Just as they start to really get to know each other tragedy hits. Miles who is devastated is forced to figure out some harsh realities about life and about Alaska too. The end is very bittersweet and I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.

My Favorite Songs

So when I like a song I get insanely obsessed with it and listen to it until I can’t bear it anymore. I didn’t listen to much music this month because I was just too obsessed with these tracks:

We Didn’t Start The Fire by Billy Joel

This song is pretty much Billy Joel listing historical events and people which is like heaven for me. As most people probably know by now I am pretty much obsessed with history and everything to do with it. So this song was so amazing to find. The first time I heard it was on Parks and Recreation and I needed to hear it again. Since I study history in school and we are currently doing the Cold War this was so relevant and it even helped me with understanding the timeline better. You can have a listen to it here.

Uptown Girl by Billy Joel

I had heard this on Trainwreck before but I hadn’t exactly loved it. But when I started listening to We Didn’t Start The Fire I decided I would give this song a listen too. And so I did and ended up loving it! It’s such a fun song and it’s really sweet too. I have literally not been able to stop listening to Billy Joel this month. And the crazy thing is I am still not tired of his songs (I usually get tired of songs pretty fast). You can have a listen to it here.
