An Open Letter To The Universe

Save me

From the darkness

And the sadness

Shield me

From the pain

And anguish

Teach me

How to love

Without being hurt

Help me

To always accept others

Even when they’re different

Give me

The warmth and intimacy

I so crave

Change me

For the better

Not to suit your idea of perfection

Love me

For who I am

Inside and out

I know it sounds a little romantic but it’s really not (I am not a very romantic person 🙂 ). “An Open Letter To The Universe” is actually about growing up. I’ve been noticing lately things about myself that are changing because I am now an adult. And sometimes that scares. I don’t want to grow up without actually growing up. I want to grow inside and out, I want to know what real spirituality and peace is, I want to be the best person I can be and live each day like it’s my last. An Open Letter To The Universe explains and explores those feelings.

  3. Hi Pooja,

    Beautiful transparent poem.

Like every teenager experiences; this angst of turmoil, of powerlessness and search for meaning from the outside socialisation to explain the inner, two worlds colliding, with the bonus of the genetic imperitive of reproduction-urges raised into fight-flight indulgences within taboos and creating blameless identities.

We all start our first gasp of life inside out, become overwhelmed by giants and gods to grow outside in, until we master to become inside out once again.

Your poem resonates as the lament of this universal voice; the loss and loneliness of unfulfilment from a child not experiencing anyone self-actualised to nurtute the whys and kept them safe, to ensure that their imprint was a guide and demonstation to how not to become upset and intimidated by those who would have their minds in submission, to constantly validate what the pilot already knew so they will soar above the heavens.

    Thank you.

    1. Thank you so much for that. Your teen years are the hardest because so much changes both physically and psychologically. On top of all that there are so many other pressures that we face. Everyone at some point feels helpless and lost and when I wrote this I was thinking about the future and how I know almost nothing about being independent and just basically about the world. Again thanks for the comment and have a great day 🙂
