To The Men I Once Loved

The first man I ever loved

Was too busy trying to get popular

To notice that I existed

The second man I ever loved

Was too busy learning who he was

To notice that I existed

The third man I ever loved

Was too busy studying

To notice that I existed

The fourth man I ever loved

Was too busy loving himself

To notice that I existed

To all the men I’ve ever loved

Who were too busy to notice me

Thank you for teaching me

How to love myself when you didn’t

“To The Men I Once Loved” is a poem that I wrote some time ago. It is a poem dedicated to the men I have had feelings for. Even though these feelings were not reciprocated they taught me lessons. They taught me about life. And for that I am thankful. Sometimes pain helps us understand and learn better. Yes, the pain hurts but growth is painful.

  1. Realization always comes from unpleasant experiences. We tend to forget ourselves in company of others sometimes. Then at the end, we realize that whatever we have been searching outside is actually present inside of us.

Very nice poetic lines , I enjoyed! 🙂

    1. Yeah I totally agree. When I was younger I kept trying to please others and act like everyone else but the more I grow up I realise I don’t need other people to approve of what I’m doing. I just need to be happy with who I am and that’s all I need.
      Thanks 🙂

      1. Exactly!

  2. Wonderful! Not your situations in the past but the fact you became stronger from them.

    Their loss I’m sure.

    Cheers! ^_^

    1. Thank you! And yes definitely their loss 😆 😆

  3. Now this is perfect….. The inner self realization that me, myself am to be loved because I am worth and only I, myself can keep myself smile.. My happiness, my smiles, my joy are to be created by myself and it does not depend upon someone else.. The moment we know we are important too and we matter, then the behavior nature of other’s don’t worry us. Self acceptance, self love, self realization is been taught by the other who we thought are more important then us… Simply thinking the others.

Very beautifully written words and a great lesson behind the message.. Thank you for sharing

    1. Yes I think it’s very important to realize that no one can make us happy if we are unhappy. The only person who can truly make you happy is yourself. You don’t need someone to complete you because you’re already complete on your own. Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your thoughts and thank you for stopping by my blog 🙂

  4. When our heart is happy the whole world is happy. By nature our Soul is full of happiness and if there is not then there is definitely some kind of impurity. The proof of faith is intoxication and proof of intoxication is happiness. The more happiness we give the more we get, therefore it is necessary that we remember that our happiness depends on ourselves. Thank you for such beautiful words, every thing in life when we read looks so natural but while living life we cover ourselves with dust and get attached to be living as if we are in hypnosis.

    1. Thanks 😊

  6. no one is ever going to fill the hole in your soul, they are not supposed to, it is your job, i learned that too…but sometimes it takes a few teachers till you find the right teacher is you.

    1. Yes I totally agree. I think even though it takes you a while to figure out eventually you know that in the end the only person who can truly love you is yourself 🙂
