It was fifty years ago today- Monday December 30, 1968- Frank Sinatra recorded what would become one of his ‘signature songs’- My Way.
The original song was written as a French pop song Comme d’habitude [ As Usual} by Claude Francois and Jacques Revaux and performed by Francois. Canadian singer Paul Anka heard the song in 1967 and went to France to negotiate the rights to the song. He thought it was a terrible record but had something in it. Anka acquired the rights. A while later he was dining in Florida with Sinatra and a couple Mob guys- when he heard Sinatra say “I’m quitting the business. I’m sick of it. When I was a kid Frank was really out and we made jokes about him… A few years ago I really listened to him sing and realized how damned good he is. Now I’m pretty hooked. Apparently he didn’t like singing this song… always requested so much!
Happy New Year Pooja. Incidentally, when I was in India, I always thought of your name as Puja, which I guess is exactly the same. My professor’s daughter – whom I fell in platonic love with – once asked me “I hope you know the meaning of puja!” I didn’t really back then but I do now. 🙂

Happy New Year! Yeah I think some people spell it Puja and some spell it how I spell mine but it doesn’t really make much of a difference because it still means the same thing!

Of course, I saw the spelling Pooja while I was in India. I guess I thought that spelling was more secular or Bollywood style. Just a guess. Probably wrong. 🙂
