The same routine
Nine to five
Working like robots
Without looking up
Never once looking out of the window
Collecting material items
Never asking why
Never thinking what more is out there
“The Same Routine” is a poem I recently wrote that was inspired by The Little Prince. I’m not sure if you guys are familiar or not with this book. But it’s a book that I hold very near and dear to my heart. This book is something I read when I was younger. A young teenager actually. And it really made an impact on me.
For those of you who are not familiar with The Little Prince, the book is pretty much about a “little prince.” It goes on to describe his experiences and we as the reader are able to view the world through his eyes. The story is also about the relationship the little prince has with his rose. As the reader we are able to learn more about true love and not taking it for granted. As well as respecting a partners boundaries in relationships. It also shows us how as adults we often lose sight of what is important to us. And our lives often lose balance because we fixate on only one thing. Be it work, money or whatever.
That is the part that really struck me because I see that myself. I see adults who have given up on truly living so often. And it’s heartbreaking. Yet there seems to be no escape. As we age, we let go of certain parts of ourselves.
