GoFundMe For Family In Need

On September 1st, 2019 a monstrous hurricane ravished the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama. The north-western islands of the Bahamas. Hurricane Dorian bared cat 5 conditions on these islands for 48 hours.

From the aftermath of this hellish storm comes stories of survival and resilience. Each survivor’s story is different, with immense detail that would make you feel as though you lived through it with them. However, it is a day that my people will never forget.

Like most families, we all lost something. My family lost our family home of fifteen years, vehicles, jobs, and every experience that made our island our peaceful dwelling place. After the eye of the storm had passed, the roof of my parent’s home was ripped to pieces. Save for one bathroom that became their safety retreat amid the howling winds. My dad and brother even risked their lives, where others were not fortunate, attempting to reinforce a window after the 220 gusty winds ripped the shutter off.

Albeit my entire family survived the storm, Dorian afflicted eternal scars on hapless families. However, during the storm, I was informed that everyone from my family spent three prolonged nights sleeping in the only bathroom where the roof was still attached or in closets. As the hurricane ceased, those three nights intensified the despair sensed by everyone. After the hurricane lifted from the decimated island, my brothers and cousin slept on water-soaked mattresses outside, and in cars that provided a safe shelter from the elements.

GoFundMe

Due to the hurricane, my family lost everything. Therefore, I am attaching a link to a GoFundMe as we ask for support. All donations will be used to meet our basic needs such as transportation, housing, groceries, and other essentials.

We would appreciate any donation amount. Thank you for taking the time to read a snippet of the experience my family went through.

Here is the link for my family’s GoFundMe, click here.

  1. Sad to hear this….

  2. I’m unable to access the Go Fund Me page because I don’t use FB anymore. I couldn’t read your family’s story at this time. I’m sorry that you and your family were affected by Hurricane Dorian. It seems like so many people on WP were affected by it ☹️💔

    1. I’m so sorry about not being able to access it but I tried changing the link so please try to open it again if possible.

      1. You’re welcome. You’ll be in my prayers.

  4. Someone needs to change the GoFundMe links to https://www.gofundme.com/f/hurricane-dorian-relief-fund-for-family

Right now it links to https://www.gofundme.com/manage/hurricane-dorian-relief-fund-for-family

That works for the person(s) managing the GoFundMe, but sends everyone else to a Manage Campaign section which won’t get them to the GoFundMe campaign..

    1. Thanks so much for letting me know I’ll change it immediately!

      1. You are welcome. I will be re-blogging it in about 10 hours (10:10 U.S. Central Time).

I do my best to re-blog GoFundMe campaigns for things like this when I notice a blogger posting one. I lost a lot in Hurricane Camille back in 1969 so I am familiar with what a hurricane can do.

        1. I’m so sorry about your experience and thank you so much for sharing the post I’m sure the person who wrote the post will truly appreciate your kindness.

    2. The first link is working for me. I don’t have to log in anymore to view it. 🙂

      1. Alright perfect!

      2. Awesome! I didn’t know the link was not working for everyone else. I am glad Pooja, helped me out! She is such a great person!

    3. If the link is still not working, please feel free to reply to this comment so I can do my best to help. Thanks for reblogging this post.

  5. Loss is part of life. Despite all my precautionary measures such as buying life cover, my boss retrenched me in a technically wrong way when medical occupational disability hit. In a country where labour laws exclude me from even applying.

We lost our home, both big German cars that were paid cash, every single piece of furniture, our friends and relatives left and we got exploited and abused in a succession of 28 churches.

When my mother died, my wife and I weren’t allowed at her funeral. The snobs stole the opportunity. I had to force-find closure.

We were uprooted from our digs 46 times in ten years, while paying our way through hard work.

Since 2018, stray blood clots went through my cerebellum no less than four times. Left me walking with a stick and a stagger.

Like Job of old, even my children got taken away. Nobody came to care or comfort. We are still being left to suffer.

I think it is in Ezekiel that this careless community attitude is addressed by God. Read chapter 34.

Life isn’t a fair place. Our job is not to lose hope, faith or trust. Did I wish for a slush fund over the past 20 years of disaster upon disaster? Well, yes! Did it come? No!!

Even so, it is my wife and I who encourage others, spread the Gospel and help others while our own stay isn’t guaranteed.

Hurricanes rage in many ways other than wind.

  6. I’m so sorry to hear this, I cant imagine what you must all be doing through! I’ll donate what I can to the link. Sending you light and love, and hope that all starts to get sorted for you xxx
