Book Related Question

If you’ve followed my blog for a while you guys know it’s one of my dreams to write a book and it’s something that I do want to work on at some point. However, I haven’t found what I wanted to write about but recently I’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback on posts about blogging and I thought maybe that might be what I should write about.

I’ve noticed that there aren’t a lot of books about blogging out there and a lot of the ones I saw were not very specific. Even though I am not currently working on anything I wanted to ask you guys for some feedback. Let me know by taking the poll below whether you would be interested in a book about blogging written by me. Thank you and please be brutally honest!

  1. Can’t see the poll. I’d read it if you wrote it, you’d have to think through the angle tho, deciding on fiction or truth or a blend, but I’d read it definitely

  2. I don’t want to discourage you but there are huge information about blogging available on internet. Instead of writing about blogging write on something else. It just my opinion, after all its your life, you can do whatever you like.

  3. I agree there is a lot of material on blogging already out there on line but maybe finding an angle or maybe branching a bit wider and focusing on social media more broadly, just of the top of my head I am wondering about broader mental health implications and social media, managing your profile across multiple platforms in a way that is healthy springs to mind. Good luck.

  4. It’s true that there’s a lot of information about blogging out there… but there’s a lot of information about EVERYTHING out there. You have a unique, fun voice. I’d read a book you wrote. I think a lot of people would, especially if you also utilized your keen eye for visual aids like you do in your posts.

  5. I feel like you would do well writing a novel or a short memoir. You seem to have that personality of where you can engage with your readers more intimately and you have a fun-loving, authentic voice. I think would really enjoy reading more about your life story and feel a deeper connection to you as a writer if you wrote a memoir or a novel.

    1. Thank you so much for your input and I was actually thinking of a memoir or maybe a book about all the places I’ve traveled and the experiences I’ve had there.

  6. It’s a tough thing to sell books in any venue. I’m not saying don’t do it, but I’d advise doing a lot of research first. Transforming hours put in into a viable wage is way more difficult than most people think.

  7. Agree with Jordan G Kobos. If you need others to tell you what to write – please think again. Would you be doing it for the sales? Kudos?
There are loads of books, magazines, other bloggers, Blog sites themselves giving information and advice. From what I’ve seen it’s all pretty derivative so you’d need to come up with a totally new angle, something like: ‘Blogging’s a Blast – What I Get Out of It’.
Sharon has suggested writing about mental health and social media – but you need to write what you know from personal experience. A book is not the same as a blog as you need accurate information, data, references, and so much more in order that you cannot be accused of plagiarism, or libel, or any of the myriad things that may be thrown at you. Your English needs to be perfect for a factual book and you could not use images from copyrighted sources.
Sorry about this but you asked for brutal honesty.
From what I’ve read on your blog you are a young woman who’s very interested in all things American. Why not write about that? The culture, life style, food, media as you see it, how it has impacted on your life and ways of thinking especially being raised in a different cultural background. Centred on a Uni student – maybe in diary format???
BTW – Who is Nora? (previous comment)
Good luck. Please think hard about topic, commitment (you are at Uni) then go for it.

    1. Thanks for the honestly I appreciate it!

I actually asked for everyone’s opinions not because of sales but because I want to write a book that helps people and I wanted to know if bloggers would find it helpful because I didn’t find some of the books I read recently on blogging very helpful.

I do have experience with both social media and mental health since I suffer from mental health problems and am an influencer on social media.

I think writing about university or the other things you suggested would be really interesting so thanks for those suggestions!

Nora’s username is JoyJournal which you can find in the comments above.

      Thanks again for your comment!

      1. Hi, Thanks for letting me know who Nora is.
Sorry if I came over a bit harshly but being autistic if a question is asked then I’ll answer straight from the hip. I definitely agree with Nora that it is very demanding time-wise and I felt that as you are at Uni then writing a book based around that could be fun.
Have you written blogging articles for high-end magazines? That could be a ‘toe in the water’ for you to see how you could fit in to the panoply of what’s out there.
Back to the mental health idea, I didn’t mean to imply you have no experience (I’ve read some of your posts about it) just that there may not be enough for a book. I had my second breakdown at Uni and was hospitalised and given ECT. Even with ‘serious and enduring mental health issues’, having been an editor for a mental health service users magazine, and run a group for fellow self-harmers – I still don’t feel I have enough material for a book.
That’s probably just my problem and I shouldn’t lay it on you.
I guess I just don’t want you to be disappointed or disheartened. You come across as being so much fun, so involved, and with so much potential.

        1. No not at all I actually appreciated your honesty and it also gave me some important things to think about!

Thanks so much for your advice as well as your concern I appreciate that!
