5 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues

5 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues

It’s no secret that winter’s coming and for a lot of people the changing weather can also bring unwanted changes in mood too. Here are some ways that I think you might find helpful to beat those winter blues:

Don’t let the weather stop you

Even though staying in and doing nothing in winter sounds more appealing than going out it can also lead to you feeling more depressed. Instead try to go out even if you don’t feel like it and hang out with people you enjoy spending time with. I don’t know about you but spending time with someone with good vibes always makes me feel better.

Don’t give up

Don’t let the weather make you feel like you have to give up on yourself. Keeping doing your hair even though no one can see it under that gigantic beanie, keeping painting your nails and most importantly treat yourself like a priority because you are!

Yoga/meditation

Yoga and meditation helps me find peace and positivity whenever I feel like my energy is decreasing or like I’m feeling negative emotions. It doesn’t make my negative feelings disappear but helps me deal with them in a rational and positive way instead. Joining a yoga class or trying out a meditation app this winter might be helpful for you.

Take it easy

Even though going out and doing things is important, also remember to take some me time and treat yourself because it’s important to relax and just do nothing for a bit. It’s easy to get carried away with life and sometimes it feels like work is just piling on but taking a moment to just breathe is a great way to decrease the negative feelings and actually get work done without burning yourself out.

Seek professional help

If nothing seems to be working and you feel as though your depression is getting the best of you please remember to seek help from a professional because sometimes you need someone professionally trained to guide you and help you find the best way to beat your winter blues.

  1. However, the ideal way is sipping a cup of hot coffee every morning alongside practising spiritual therapies on a routine basis to revive the inner warmth and energy.

    1. Hot chocolate works too!

      1. But it has to be a pure and genuine one to produce the desired impact.

        1. Absolutely!

  2. Cold weather brings warmth and good food too!

    1. That’s true!

  3. I beat the winter blues a longtime ago by moving to a warm climate.

    1. Lol that works too.

  5. Even though it is cold and rainy I still push myself to go for walks after dinner everyday (though it’s super darl) and go for a run on some mornings. I won’t waste my time just because of the weather 🙃

    1. Yes exactly doing things as you normally would definitely helps!

  6. Or head to Brazil and the Amazon like I’ll be doing!!

    1. OMG so lucky!

  7. I think I have the opposite problem, I have summer blues. When the days are hot and bright I am miserable, it is too hot to go bushwalking and going outside I just get sunburnt. I love the cold and rain, I will bushwalk in the most miserable weather and I love to curl up indoors with a hot drink and a good book. Autumn and winter are my favourite times of year.

    1. Oh wow that’s really interesting! I love autumn too but as a student winter can be a bit frustrating for me.

  8. One thing I didn’t know is that you still get sunlight in the winter, even if it doesn’t seem like it because it’s cloudy. So get out there and get that Vitamin D, people!

    1. I was surprised by that too!

  9. For years this was me

    1. Hope you’re better now!

    1. Hope it helps!

      1. Of course, helps.

  10. I try and remember all the things I don’t have to worry about because it is cold – bathing suits, putting sunscreen on wiggly kids, summer expectations, sweating, hot steering wheel, bees 😉

    1. Yes there are so many good things about winter!

      1. My mood always dips during the winter months so I think it’s important to take a little time for yourself – these are some fab tips! Xx

        1. Thank you and I agree it really helps to take some me time!

  11. Winter is a hard time sometimes. I’m already thinking about not shaving for no shave November lol I do also want to get my nails done as well…..lol

    1. Lol getting your nails done can be therapeutic and not shaving for a month is so fun and you suddenly have lots of free time!

      1. And I can save money!!!! hahahaha I’m a little hairy but oh well!

  12. I just keep telling myself that summer will be my reward for going through winter…

    1. Well you’re not wrong!

  13. I think we have to take a walk outside in winter for 20 minutes daily….

    1. Yeah that would definitely help!

  14. Oooh, summer is sneaking up on Cape Town and shy me blush in the mall. The garments are for cooling down, it seems. And the beaches get stampeded.

    1. Lucky you I want summer back!

  15. I would add a couple or three things that help too—every morning bask in a 10,000 lux light lamp for 15-45 minutes, listen to and if possible dance to music, if you are in the South grow some pansies over the winter. Mine bloom all winter and cheer me just to pass them.

    1. That’s good advice thanks for sharing those!

  16. I’m going to do more of getting out in the winter months . I feel I need to . This winter may bother me more then others.

    1. I hope it helps!

      1. I think it will . Well I hope so🙂

  19. Looking for tiny moments of magic can be helpful too – like gazing at the night sky or the Christmas lights outside ✨

    1. That definitely helps!

  20. Excellent tips! I love how you pointed out the importance not allowing the weather to stop us. This time of the year is my favorite time to go outdoors and jog since I live in Texas where the summers are brutal. People think I’m nuts for running in the cold, but it not only helps me stay healthy physically, but mentally as well. I enjoyed reading this! Nice work!

    1. Thank you! My best friend lives in Texas too and she’s the same- she loves going out when it’s cold. Glad you enjoyed the post!

  21. Winter months are here again…

    1. They really are!
