Sunshine Blogger Award #17

The Sunshine Blogger Award

I want to thank Manoj Mehra for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! He has an interesting lifestyle blog that you can check out by clicking here.

Rules For The Sunshine Blogger Award

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
2. List the rules and display an award logo on blog post.
3. Answer the 11 questions
4. Nominate 11 new blogs.
5. Ask nominees 11 new questions.

Questions

1. How can education change the life of a person? Education is most definitely life changing. Although I feel as though just by educating yourself in a  school/higher education organisation is not enough. I think the best way to educate yourself is to go to these educational organisations but also do your own research and learn more broadly. This can not only improve your life but really change the world for the better. I believe that a lot of the problems we are facing today is because of a lack of proper education.

2. Have you ever helped someone unknown? If yes, how? Yes I have.
3. What is the one thing you do to save the environment? I’m vegan, I try to cut my water and paper usage to a minimum, I use public transport and I try to use ethically sourced/made products.

4. Have you any tree or plant in your home? If yes, name it. No, I don’t at the moment but I plan on growing one.

6. What is your favorite time of a day and why? Late at night because everything is quiet and peaceful.

7. What type of movies do you like to watch? It really depends on my mood. I’m a big fan of comedy, crime, drama and horror.

8. Who is your favorite singer? There are so many I can’t name just one! I really like John Lennon, Phil Ochs, The Dixie Chicks, Miranda Lambert and Cardi B at the moment.

9. Who is your favorite comedian? Again there are so many! I really like Trevor Noah, Daniel Tosh, Pete Davidson and like a million others!

10. What do you like the most, sweet or spicy? Spicy for sure. I’m not a fan of sweet foods I eat like two bites and feel gross so I definitely prefer spicy foods. I really like food that is sweet and spicy together too.
11. Share the link of your post which people liked the most. This is my most popular post this week so I’ll just share this one https://lifesfinewhine.ca/2020/02/07/5-tiny-mistakes-that-may-be-the-reason-your-blog-isnt-taking-off/

  1. Congrats- and wonderful answers (we’ll agree to disagree on Daniel Tosh, though, lol)!

    1. Thank you and I can accept that I know Daniel Tosh isn’t for everyone 😂

  9. I love Trevor Noah too. I think right now he is like one of the big things in the industry.

    1. He is and I’m so proud of all he’s achieved because he truly deserves it!

  10. Congratulations!

  11. Great post! Congrats! 😃

    1. Thank you!

  12. Liked your answers. I like spicy food too. GIFs used are funny.

    1. Thank you so much and yes spicy food is delicious!

  13. These questions were really interesting! You answered them well. Especially the first one, it really intrigued me. Though higher education can be perceived as making you ‘smarter’, I think a lot of intelligence comes from experiencing things. Travelling is just one example!
    Hope you are well 🙂

    1. Thank you so much and I’m glad you enjoyed that answer. I strongly believe that even though higher education is great it shouldn’t be the only thing you rely on for education/learning.

      1. You’re welcome 😊

  14. “What do you like the most, sweet or spicy? Spicy for sure. I’m not a fan of sweet foods I eat like two bites and feel gross so I definitely prefer spicy foods. I really like food that is sweet and spicy together too.”
I totally agree with this! Making me want to find a new curry/spicy food recipe. Actually the thing you described cooking the other day sounded great…

    1. Ooh spicy curries are the best!! Mmm spicy kimchi fried is so delicious you have to try it!

  15. Congrats,nice one

    1. Thank you!

  16. Congrats on another award. I am following your blog for some time now and really enjoy most of your posts. However I have to admit that your blogging award acceptance posts have started to really irk me. They are reading as very conceited.
The whole purpose of the blogging awards is networking. Yes the awarding blogger probably really does like your blog but what these awards are all about is to get you to spread the word about their blog and to expose your readers to new blogs by passing the award on to other blogs that you want people to know about.
That’s why part of the award is to tell something about yourself and then pass the blog onto others with a link to those blogs.
You however just gleefully and extensively answer all the questions about yourself and then say that anyone who wants to award themself, take the award. To me that comes across as you having a huge ego that you can’t even begin to think of another blog as good as your own that’s worthy to be mentioned on your blog. Just the opinion of one subscriber, but probably there are many others out there that think the same thing but don’t comment. Things to make you go “hmmmm….”

    1. Hi,
Thank you for your comment. Firstly, the “whole” purpose of awards is not networking that’s only part of the purpose. Another purpose is to get to know the blogger more and to have fun reading the answers. I love sharing other blogs and the whole idea of newtworking (refer to my share and promote page that you are free to become a part of https://lifesfinewhine.com/2016/11/17/share-and-promote-your-blog-here/amp/) and that is not why I don’t nominate other blogs. The reason I don’t nominate other blogs is because I used to nominate them earlier but a majority of them told me not to nominate them because they don’t accept awards so instead of nominating blogs that may not even want to get nominated I decided to leave the nomination open to anyone interested. Furthermore, I follow a large number of bloggers and it would be unfair to nominate just a few and leave out some who may want to be a part of this. So far it has worked and multiple bloggers have participated. It’s not that I don’t think other blogs are good enough to be nominated it’s that there are too many bloggers that I think are good enough to be nominated and I don’t want to single anyone out.
I “extensively” talk about myself “gleefully”? I answered each question except the first one in ONE SENTENCE. How is that extensively and gleefully talking about oneself? The only one I answered extensively is the one about education because it’s something I’m passionate about and if me wanting people to get an education seems selfish to you perhaps me and my blog are not the problem.
Also I am happy to add the names of people who are interested in doing the award in the nominees section. So instead of getting salty and leaving passive aggressive comments maybe next time just talk to me?
      Have a nice day,
      Pooja

      1. Thank you for the reply. You are right. I am sorry. The gleeful comment did come across as passive aggressive. My genuine apologies.
“… so instead of getting salty …” – i am not sure if you are saying I am jealous because I wasn’t nominated by whom ever gave you this award or because you did not nominate me. Please tell me that such a comment isn’t egotistical. To think that my comment was because I am jealous of your award or that you did not nominate me is so above being self absorbed I am amazed. You don’t know me or probably don’t even know my blog. So sorry, no, I was not offended because you did not nominate me. Sorry to burst your bubble on that one.
“ … if me wanting people to get an education seems selfish to you perhaps me and my blog are not the problem.” Quite honestly, I did not even read your answers when I saw it was another list of questions for a blog award, so no, it has nothing to do with sexism, racism or any other under lying psychological issues. I just skimmed and saw it was another pass by you on paying forward the award. My mention of gleeful and extensive remark was in the WHOLE context of ALL your posts about accepting awards and in my view, only fulfilling half of the award criteria. Not just this one post alone.
I do happen to read and subscribe to your blog so I have seen all your other award posts where you ignore the paying forward part and only answer the questions about yourself.
I will disagree with you about the intention of these “awards”. If they are not just to get the awarding person’s name out there, then they would just post a challenge on their blog with the questions. It is not about getting to know the other blogger. That’s what emailing through the contact page is for. Not in a public forum. If you honestly belief that these awards are not self promotion, then I have some beach front property in Arizona to sell you. (i always wanted to use that line!)
I just find the whole passing on the second half of the award criteria disrespectful to the awarder, even if they are blatantly self promoting. To me, it makes it look like you are only excited to talk about yourself.
As far as asking you, well, that’s quite interesting that you request I ask you why you do something before commenting about what you wrote. By putting yourself out there as a blogger, you will come across people that are angered or offended or just plain disagree with what you write. And by opening yourself to the world of public opinion you have to be able to accept that readers will have their opinion and are in their right to respond to what you write. If you want people to ask you to explain yourself before commenting on your blog, maybe you should add a disclaimer at the end of each post, because people will read what you wrote differently than what you intended or read more into what you wrote than you intended. That was not a passive aggressive statement but a genuine piece of advise.
Anyway, I do enjoy your writing and your posts in general. Again the only issue I have is that accepting an award to solely answer questions about yourself, TO ME, appears conceited. That is my opinion without any sexist, racist or an other psychological under tones.
Keep up the good work. Not being sarcastic or passive aggressive here again. Honestly enjoy your blog.

  17. Congrats

  18. Ouch. Last comment was harsh, eh? But he makes a valid point. Looking back at your post, it does seem vain. 😳

    1. Hi Alison, the reason I don’t nominate other blogs is because I used to nominate others but a majority of people told me that they don’t accept awards and asked me not to nominate them and I didn’t want to be a bother to anyone. Secondly, I follow a large number of bloggers and I thought it would be unfair to just nominate a few of them who may not even want to be nominated and leave out some who want to try out the award. Instead I decided to leave it open so that anyone who wants to do the award can do so (many of whom do) as many other bloggers do as well. Lastly, I never asked anyone to nominate me ever but it they do so I’m happy to accept because they’re fun to do and a fun way to get to know more about someone.

  19. Cardi B is my guilty pleasure, but I’ve been loving Rosalía lately! 💜

    1. Love Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion is my guilty pleasure for sure!

  20. I worked as a corporate psychologist for 36 years so trust me when I say that although Rene’s initial comment was harsh, the level at which you defended yourself to both he and me suggests that subconsciously you know that what he said is at sone level right. Getting the awards stokes your ego as you it would anyone. But I have to admit he is correct tho. The way you word your not continuing the nomination process and only answering the questions does come off a bit self centered. Some people would see it that way and others won’t. I did not think about it until he mentioned it and I re-read your ending. Were it me I would reword the last part in some way to reflect your feelings about sharing the reward rather than just saying “Anyone who wants to do this award please feel free”, say “There are too many people I think that deserve this award so anyone ….”.

    1. Since you worked as a psychologist I’m sure you understand that when one feels attacked their first response is to defend themselves, I have extreme generalized anxiety and social anxiety which means that my need to defend myself is higher than that of someone who doesn’t suffer from mental illness and it makes me much more emotional then other people who in a similar situation. Yes I like getting nominated for awards because like you said who doesn’t? And guess what I’ve worked my ass off for this blog and will continue to do so so yes I have every right to be proud. Yes perhaps I could have worded it differently but I don’t think the phrasing I used in any way is self centered. I didn’t say “I’m too good to nominate someone so whoever wants to do it go for it.”

  21. Pooja I am sorry that you have those disorders and commend you on putting yourself out there on such a public forum. However, not all responses will be positive so a free bit of advice. Remove comments from your posts until you are sure you are in a place that you are able to respond with neutrality. You have two things to deal with which makes for a hell of a cocktail on social media where you are opening yourself to strangers’ opinions. You are an excellent writer. Own that. Remove comments. You do not need strangers validation nor criticisms. Blessings going forward.

    1. Thank you for your advice I will take it into consideration. Sending positivity your way because I feel we both need some of that today.
      All the best,
      Pooja

  22. Gees! Just reading comments that followed after and pretty surprised at how others perceived this. I’m a newbie but I was happy with the last part because I’ll probably not get nominated soon enough. I thought it was nice of you to just freely give it to anyone. I plan on actually writing a sunshine award blog. thanks.

  23. Congrats! Great answers by the way, I always say this but we are so similar! Can’t wait to read more!
