Why Your Traffic Has Decreased

Blogging For Dummies | 5 Tricks That Will Get You Followers | Why Your Traffic Has Decreased

Why Your Traffic Has Decreased

A small decrease in views once in a while is totally normal however if you notice a consistence decrease in views you may be making some of the following mistakes which luckily are very easily fixable! Here is why your traffic has decreased and how to get it back to normal:

Not responding to comments

A large number of bloggers really enjoy communicating with one another and socializing with everyone. Commenting is a very important part of the blogging experience and not replying to comments may be one of the reasons your readers aren’t returning. A lot of people may prefer to read blogs from people they can interact with.

Not being active

I say this a lot but it’s definitely true- WordPress is very much a two way street. If you don’t support other blogs they are going to stop supporting you too. If you notice that someone consistently likes and comments on your blog make sure to return the favour. This will encourage people to keep coming back to your blog. If you don’t return the favour people may stop returning to your blog over time. For more on how to be active on WordPress click here.

Not being consistent

If you don’t post consistently at the same time readers may not know when to visit your blog for new posts. If you don’t post for a while they may also think you’ve stopped blogging which is pretty common sometimes. Scheduling your post and remaining consistent can really help increase your traffic. Not using tags well

I always say this as well but tags are super important when it comes to blogging! Not using the correct tags or the tags that could bring you optimum views can really cut down your views, likes and follows.

  1. Being self hosted, the WordPress reader does not use my tags. Great read and awesome advice, friend!

    1. Thank you so much!

      1. Absolutely! Are you getting additional traffic during these tough times?

        1. Yeah I am getting more traffic than usual. How about you?

          1. I am getting an increase in traffic. The meaningful interaction has assuredly raised!

            1. That’s so great! I feel like socialising is one of the best parts of blogging!

              1. Me as well. Connection around the world has value. Are the stores around you supplying every thing necessary?

                1. Yes fortunately I am still able to get everything. How about you?

                  1. I am pretty good!

                    1. Good to hear that!

                    2. How are you really dealing with the lockdown? Is it bothering you?

                    3. Not really I’m okay so far because I have online classes and stuff but I feel like after the semester is over it might be a little more difficult. How about you?

                    4. I am reading a lot and playing with my kids. I helped my Beloved do the dishes last night. As soon as my sore throat goes away, I will go back to work.

                    5. That’s good. It’s good to keep occupied. Hope you get better soon!

                    6. Thank you! I am trying to be cautious just in case. Normally, I have a strong immune system and do not want to pass any icky stuff along. I have been feeling silly lately. Hopefully that is contagious!

                    7. Haha sometimes you need to be silly!

  2. How do you feel about a consistent posting at same time every day, and once in a while adding an additional post (at a different time)? Or, should one just que all posts up with the others, that are set to post at regular time?

    1. I think as long as you continue to post at your usual time posting additional posts should not be a problem as long as it’s only once in a while.

  3. As a new blogger, I appreciate this advice so much! 🙂

    1. So glad to hear that!!

  4. Thank you for sharing these tips! I’ve been wondering about hashtags and whether they matter. Will check out the link 🙂

    1. You’re welcome and hope it helps!

  5. Thanks for sharing great tips

    1. You’re welcome and hope it helps!

      1. Yes, I took 📝

  6. Very informative

    1. Thank you!

  7. Thank you for sharing these tips. I have been trying to get better at blogging.Sadly I am still trying to get use to having a work college and my writing. I hope you and anyone reading this is doing well despite everything that is going on in the world.

    1. It takes a while to get used to but don’t worry you’ll get the hang of it! I didn’t blog consistently for almost an year when I first started university. Hope you’re doing well too!

  8. Thank you for the tips! The one about using tags was very helpful

    1. You’re welcome!

  9. Mine’s pretty consistent. Both of my followers visit at least once a month.

    1. Well at least they visit!

  10. So true! Also spelling and grammar, and not too much text speak. One or two ‘lol’ I can let slide, but if the writer chops and changes.between writing and text talk, I switch off. NY brain literally reads lol as “lol”, like as in lollipop. Too much chop and change and I will just get frustrated and close out the tab! Great work, keep it up 🙂

    1. That should be chops and changes* practice what you preach and all that! Also teaches me for commenting using my phone!

    2. Yeah sticking to one style is a good idea! I think it can be frustrating for many people when the writer keeps switching. Thanks for that addition!

  11. I just started blogging and this advice has helped me a lot, especially about tags. Now I have started using tage and my traffic has increased, thank you!

    1. I’m so glad to hear that it’s helped!

  12. Tags have always been a weak spot of mine, honestly.
Hope I can get a better grasp on them soon 😐

    1. Yeah hope so too because tags can be a total game changer!

  13. I’ve just started a new blog. I was at it since four years but I’ve come back at it again. How do you say we combat writers block? I mean with being consistent, writers block does get in the way. So reading your tips, I loved them and was so helpful. I’m hoping you could help me out here a bit with my little battle? 🙄

    1. I totally understand how you feel and writers block is totally normal- we all experience it at some point! What helps me is writing about multiple topics instead of just one- so basically I write about whatever I feel interested in at that point instead of forcing myself to write on a specific topics. There are also daily prompts that can help give you more ideas on what to write about. Hope that helps!

      1. Yesss thank you so much! 💙

        1. You’re welcome!!

  14. Thanks for the scheduling tips PoojaG! I’ve been using them ever since and it’s so cool.

    1. You’re totally welcome and I’m glad it’s helping!

  15. Definitely using this advice! Thank you 😊

    1. Hope it helps!

  16. My biggest problem is trying to be active. Between work and everything else going on in the world it has become difficult. What I have learned to do is to save all of the emails and go through them all in one or two nights and read the blogs. WordPress time is one of my favorite times! Thanks for the Tips!

    1. You’re welcome and hope they help!

  17. working on all of these!

    1. Good luck!

      1. Thanks, Pooja!

        1. You’re welcome!

  18. Wow thank you for pointing this out. I try to post at least once in a week sometimes once in two weeks do you think that’s enough?

    1. You’re welcome and I think if possible you should try to post more often like every other day.

  19. I love this post so much. I needed this! I just returned to blogging and now I’m doing my best to gain good blog traffic again. 🙂 Thank you for this!

    1. You’re welcome and hope it helps!

  20. Nice post and you raised valid points. I have been sporadically posting on my blog and that does affect the traffic and blog visibility.

    1. Thanks and yes not posting consistently can really help!

  21. I think these are very major tips that some bloggers think they know but do not actually value. I’m glad you’ve taken precious time to carefully outline these tips that can help me and other bloggers blog better. 💚

    1. Thank you and I agree!

      1. Please do you have a post on how to utilise the categories aspect of wordpress?

        1. No I don’t sorry.

  22. You Make some really great points! Consistent and often posting should be better for us now. With schools closed for the rest of the school year we should have a blog coming at least once a week now because teens are bored w on line school from home but STILL want to be creative and learn … blogging is fun for many! If you know of a teen from anywhere in the world that would like to write a guest blog for us please send them our way! Teens can find us the easiest On Instagram @simpleteenlife1.

    1. Thank you and I agree school shutting down does help! I’ll definitely let anyone interested know about your blog!

  23. Great advice! And thank you for liking my entry yesterday. I’m wanting to get more serious about writing consistently.

    1. Thanks and you’re welcome!

  24. Lately , my blog has been in such a weird place because I am consistent with posting and showing love to others’ posts; however, I’ve noticed a steady drop in my WordPress traffic each month (but growing Google Search traffic) and I cannot figure out why.
I have started to play with my tags, so I’m hoping that’s the issue. Otherwise it’s a content issue lol – but I’m not willing to compromise what I want to write about for views!

    1. Honestly that does tend to happen sometimes. It’s quite normal and the tags/categories are probably the culprit. If not it maybe the time you’re posting- even if you post consistently if you don’t post at the optimum time it doesn’t really help much.

  25. Thanks for your advice. It’s kinda difficult for me to find the right moment to write and post something on my blog. But, I’ll try my best.

    1. Yeah just try your best!

  26. Thanks for writing on this topic.

    1. Hope it helps!

  27. I’m guilty of one or more things here 😔 but I’m trying to be more active! Thank you for the advice 💕

    1. It takes a while to learn and I’m sure getting more active will help!

      1. Yess I hope so!!!

  28. Thank you for explaining some things about tags. I didn’t know about the number of tags WordPress allows. This is really helpful information.

    1. Glad it was helpful!

  29. Awesome !! True facts spoken whilst keeping the framework simple and attractive. As a new blogger learnt a lot from this article. Nice work

    1. Thank you! So glad it was helpful.

  30. Been reading all your blogging posts. Love how you’ve written it. I’ve learned quite a few things. Thanks!
