Why Your Blog Is Not Growing

If you’re blog is growing at a slower rate than before or has stopped growing completely you don’t need to freak out just yet! It is most likely something quite simple that you can fix. Here are some reasons why your blog might have stopped growing and how to fix it:

Spamming

If you’ve been spamming other bloggers it is likely they are not going to be visiting your blog, following your blog and some of them may even block your blog. Instead of spamming people with posts or comments try to make genuine connections with people. This will work a lot better and you’ll end up making connections with new people which in my opinion is the best part of WordPress. If you’re not sure what spamming is click here.

Why Your Blog Is Not Growing

You aren’t consistently active

If you aren’t consistent with blogging a lot of your followers may not know when your posts are published and whether or not you’re still actively blogging. Try blogging consistently for better growth or if you aren’t able to post regularly try writing in bulk and then scheduling them so they are published consistently. Tags

I always say this but the tags are just so important for your blog. They can really make or break your blog. Your blog may not be growing because you are not using your tags feature properly or not using it at all which is a mistake that a lot of bloggers, myself included, make especially when they are starting out. If you don’t actively comment on others posts and reply to the comments you receive on your blog posts the audience may feel ignored. Like I said earlier socialising is a big part of blogging. And people really appreciate it when you take the time to reply to them and pay their blog a visit.

  1. Very helpful. Thanks much for sharing

    1. Glad you found it helpful!

      1. This really helped thank you. I read others blogs and will share and like them. But I have a bad habit of not commenting.

        1. Yeah commenting is much better than just liking or sharing for sure. I would recommend leaving at least 10 comments a day.

  2. Thanks a lot…… I really needed this!!!!!!

    1. Hope it helps!

  3. This is useful, thanks.

    1. Glad to hear that!

  4. thanks for your help..

    1. You’re welcome!

    1. Thank you!

  5. I just started blogging and realized the mistakes I have been making the past few days. I didn’t know “do check me out” creeps people. I will make sure not do it again. Found it at the right time. Thank you so much for advice. Great work , helped a lot.

    1. So glad the post helps! Yes most bloggers regard such comments as spam and many end up deleting or even blocking the blogger.

  6. Along the lines of spamming… Dropping several “likes” on posts in under a minute is a surefire way to let folks know the offender doesn’t care at all about their content, only in begging for likes and follows of their own.
It’s exceedingly easy to see i when you get notifications via email like I do. I had a girl today like 8 different posts in under a minute. No way she read a word of any of them.
Sincerity and genuinely caring what the other person is thinking or doing is a critical mindset in networking.. Nobody loves a phoney.

    1. Totally agree. Cardinal sin this one. This blogger has ended up following lots of other bloggers, too much on their feed and not enough care and attention to read this.

    2. Yeah I’ve seen that too and I think spam liking is definitely a problem as well.

  7. Subject matter is a consideration if your blog is a mix bag of sweets.

    1. Yeah subject matter is a factor too.

  8. Hi Pooj – one day I will do it properly. Right now I’m just having fun. I will move into a book selling mode one day and do things in a more professional manner!

    1. You do you! As long as you’re enjoying yourself!

    1. Thank you!

  9. Tahnks for this helpful content..

    1. Hope it helps!

  10. This is a great post! I ended up doing a little bit of further reading on the tags feature, and you’ve taught me a few things which I really appreciate. Thank you for sharing these tips, and take care 🙂

    1. So glad you found the post helpful! The tags feature is a little tricky and for some weird reason there isn’t a lot of information out there on specifics about how to use it.

      1. Well under 10 tags has definitely boosted engagement! I notice that posts with more tags (on other blogs) have less comments so there must be correlation. Thank you 🙂

        1. Yeah the posts get marked as spam so they’re difficult to discover for those that don’t follow the blog. I’m glad the tags are helping your blog!

          1. Thank you! I will be using your blog for more advice in the future 🙂

  11. Thanks for the help!!

    1. You’re very welcome!

  12. Very informative

    1. Haha well now you know what you need to work on lol!

      1. Haha yeah! Scheduled is the key Lols 😉

        1. Scheduling posts is such a game changer!

  16. Good advice, thanks for sharing. I wish I had seen this post when I was just starting out. I had a lot of problems with tags haha. But I figured it out eventually.

    1. Thank you! I actually started writing the advice posts because I went through the same thing when I first started out. I had no idea how to use tags properly either and for some reason there wasn’t much specific information about how to use them anywhere.

  17. Awesome post! I have been receiving the same spam from the same person for like 2 weeks. Annoying! I like how you used a Schitts Creek gif 🙂

    1. Urghh spammers are the worst!
Yes of course Moira is hilarious and such a mood!

      1. She is literally a mood 😂

  18. If it’s this moment I do think just maybe the epidemic may have something to do with it. For instance, fashion and travel blogs may be experiencing a decline in traffic because well most people are indoors and not searching for what to wear or where to travel to next.
These are all valid points PoojaG! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Yeah that would definitely be a factor for a decline.
      Thanks for your comment!

  19. Thank you for the insight! As a new WordPress blogger this is very helpful info on what to avoid.

    1. You’re welcome I’m glad you found it helpful!

  20. Thank you, I found this really helpful. I am working on becoming more consistent with my posts to generate more visibility. I am also trying to make better use of tags. It’s a a work in progress 🙂

  23. Thank you! I’m still starting out and am getting the hang of it, so this type of posts are very helpful. The last time I was consistent with a blog I was still a teen.

    1. So glad you found it helpful!

    1. So glad to hear that and you’ll get there soon!

  26. Because I am using a blogging platform for not really blogging, well not in the format a traditional blog is…
I basically looked at WordPress after getting booted off Facebook and was like, how can I rewire this to suit my personal needs alongside others while here?
And voila you got the virtual diary of Jordan instead of a blog…🤣

    1. Haha well I’m glad you found the right platform for you!

  27. Thank you! Consistency is definitely something to work on for me. It’s time to make it a priority. Thanks again for all the great advice!

    1. So glad you found it helpful!!

    will do

    1. Great to hear that!

  30. Thank for this post. I may be adding too many tags.

    1. You’re welcome and hope it helps!

  31. Mine has grown a bit when I used social media more effectively than I used to. But I write in a small niche so not too much space I think to grow that much. But that is fine by me.

    1. Yeah social media and your niche does effect growth as well.

      1. I expect some growth but not too much in this area.

  32. Thanks for this! I am struggling a bit with being consistent. I may need to try writing in bulk and scheduling.

    1. Yeah writing in bulk really helps with that!

  33. This is very helpful, thanks for sharing 👍🏼

    1. Thanks glad you found it helpful!

  34. Thank you these are very helpful tips

  46. Hi, I just started working on my blogs here and in all honesty it is a little disheartening to have zero reads on any of my blogs but this sure made my heart warm to keep going and have faith.
    Thank you ❤️

    1. Yeah I can understand why that can be disheartening but a few changes can probably help with that problem. And just hang in there it takes a while to grow but it’s worth it!

  47. Thanks! Makes me feel like I’m doing what I can.💘

    1. Glad it helped!

  48. Only just scanned through this post as it’s past my bedtime but I’ve marked it to come back tomorrow as I’ve got a lot to learn!! Thanks for sharing!

        1. You’re welcome!

    1. So glad to hear that!

  54. This blog actually helped me out. I’m new and I’m doing this for fun but I am actually trying to get somewhere.

    1. I’m so glad to hear that!

  55. Thank you, I am just starting out for the third time! I get so disappointed when it seems no one is reading. And analytics don’t help, I need to learn not to look. Anyway it looks like you cover some great topics so I did follow you. I’m generally leery about that but what you said about it does make sense. Anyway, thanks!

    1. Thanks for the follow! I totally understand how that can be disappointing but it takes a long time to grow your audience even if you are doing everything right. You just need to hang in there and keep blogging and your audience will grow over time.

  56. What a great post! I new-ish to blogging and this post was helpful. I had no idea what spamming was—that God I wasn’t doing that! Sounds a little obnoxious to me! I really like the advice about tagging, too. I get so confused by the difference b/t tagging and categories. I think I’m getting the hang of it though! Good stuff!

    1. I’m glad you found it helpful!
Yeah spamming is the worst- and definitely obnoxious. The thing with tagging/categories is to use as broad tags and categories as possible.

      1. Thanks so much!

        1. You’re welcome!

    1. Thanks and hope they help!

  57. Thanks Pooja for the useful tips it encourages me to keep going 😄
