The New Normal
It can be pretty difficult to keep your life together while you’re stuck at home. You can lose your routine, lose your motivation to do things and kind of give up on the old normal. I remember when universities switched to online and I would a friend would always sleep kind of late and wake up late and waste most of the day. However, it’s important for us not to fall into a slum and try to maintain some kind of routine or normality. This is how to keep your life together:
Finding alternative work
A lot of people are not currently working and that may effect your everyday routine a lot. A great way to maintain some kind of a routine to an extent it to find some work- there are a number of online jobs available and if you are able to successfully get one it would help give your life more purpose plus you would make some extra money. In case you are in need of some extra money right now because this situation can be financially difficult for a lot of people you can also use a wage calculator to see how much money you will actually make after taxes, expenses etc. It will also help you calculate how much your benefits such as healthcare are worth. This can help you decide what job to take and what would be perfect for you and your situation.
Try not to let the negativity get to you
Sometimes the negativity that is around us right now can really weigh you down. I know it’s difficult to be positive right now but constantly feeding your mind negativity is not the way to go either. Make sure you are aware of the situation and what’s going on but don’t fixate on it. Try to do something positive to take your mind off everything like yoga, meditation, watch something funny, talk to your loved ones, play with your pet etc. Being in a more positive state of mind will help you feel more energized and motivated to do things.
Saving money
As mentioned earlier, not everyone is able to afford being at home and a large number of people have been laid off. Saving money is really essential because we are not fully sure when things will reopen and go back to normal. It’s a good idea to use a spending calculator to calculate how much your are currently spending and what non-essential items/services you can cut back on. If you have a family you can also use a family budget calculator/planner to figure out what budget works best for you. One thing that can really increase your costs is buying brand name products.Buying generic products can really help you save money as well so the next time you are looking to buy something use generic vs store brand calculator to see if you can find a more affordable alternative.
Maintain your routine
Just because you are stuck at home does not mean that you should totally give up on your routine. Obviously you can not maintain the exact same routine that you had before but at least try to have some sort of routine. Try to wake up at a reasonable hour, if you are studying online try to do the work when you normally would in class, eat meals when you used to and don’t forget to pamper yourself a little by taking a nice bath, reading a nice book or just something small like having a chocolate. This routine will help you do your work on time and keep your life together as much as possible.
Don’t give up on adulting
Unfortunately, as an adult you have certain responsibilities. Staying home can make you feel like you don’t have responsibilities or the negative feelings present these days may make you feel like you don’t have the strength/energy to do these things. However, don’t forget to pay your rent, loans, WiFi etc. Make sure you’re doing all the necessary, essential things that you need to do as an adult.
