I just wanted to share these quotes today because I felt that we could all use a reminder about the importance of equality. It truly terrifies me to see that people can be murdered for existing and that black people are still being treated like this in the 21st century. George Floyd is one of the large number of black people that have been victims of police brutality and when I saw that video I was disgusted and terrified- I still haven’t been able to fully watch it because I can feel a panic attack coming on just thinking about it. All these victims had families, friends and lives and to think all this was taken away from them just because of the colour of their skin is just so disturbing. I hope someday we can stop seeing the differences between one another and stop seeing POC as POC but rather just as people. We are all living beings and no one should have to live with constant fear, no one should have to fear leaving their house because of their skin colour, no one should lose their child to police brutality. I know it’s going to take a long time for things to change but I hope that even if it takes a while there is finally justice and true equality. I rarely talk about political issues on here but this is something I needed to say. Admittedly my platform is quite small but it’s still a platform and I want to use to it speak out against any form of discrimination.
If you are wondering how to be an ally here is a great article on how you can help. If you are attempting to educate yourself on the matter check out this article. If you’re struggling with anxiety or other mental health problems caused by this situation or racism in general and need someone to talk to please feel free to reach out via email or social media.
Nice one♥♥♥

Well said, Pooja. I watched the video and was in complete shock and disbelief as to the intentionality of these officers and their callous disregard for Mr. Floyd as he lay there dying. To hold someone in that position for that long, knowing they can’t breathe, is unfathomably evil. It makes me sick to my stomach.
No one will ever convince me that this officer didn’t know his actions would lead to Mr. Floyd’s death and I have no doubt he believed he would get away with it, as he has with all his previous complaints. Well, he’s been fired and charged now. And I say, good luck finding an impartial jury of peers.
There were 5 minutes and 53 seconds of kneeling before officers declared Floyd unresponsive, followed by 2 minutes and 53 seconds of continued pressure. George Floyd lasted approx. 9 minutes. When Derek Chauvin gets to prison I wonder, how long will he last?

Yeah he was quite confident he would get away with it and he clearly did not see this coming. I just hope he pays for his actions.

Me too. Either way, I can’t imagine him being safe anywhere at this point, in or outside of prison. I would not want to be in his shoes that’s for sure.

Yeah, you did good, thanks for sharing, with what’s happening now, it’s happened plenty of years back and for the fact that it’s still happening, it’s like we’re back to the beginning and proves we’re not making progress and we need not to relent, we need to fight, enough is enough, silent is now a betrayal.

Yes exactly this has been happening for way too long. It’s absolutely ridiculous. And yes staying silent is really not an option anymore.

I admire you for speaking out. The George Floyd incident was one of the worst things I have ever seen on TV. Let’s hope some justice and peace come out of the incident.

This is totally an upsetting news for everyone and as long as there are people and powerful people who support injustices, no one is ever safe. Thank you for the supportive quotes and for the knowledge and resources you are willing to share, pooja. Every one should be educated and informed. No space for ignorance.

Yes everyone needs to be educated properly because a lot of problems also arise from lack of knowledge about the issue. It’s terrifying to see powerful people- especially leaders- behave in such a way and support the wrongdoings/wrongdoers.

It’s great your sharing your thoughts and feelings, do more posts about this in the future! It can really benefit people, my favourite was Kofi Annan’s quote. It was such an inspiring message! What was your favourite?

I am most definitely going to make more similar posts about the matter. I think this is one of those things where if you stay silent you’re part of the problem. My favourite is the MLK one about justice/injustice.

I’ll add one for you: Acts 10:34, “At this Peter began to speak, and he said: “Now I truly understand that God is not partial”
Speaking of the phrase “is not partial” Bible commentators have said: “God, who is impartial, does not judge by outward appearance, favoring people because of their race, nationality, social standing, or any external factors. Imitating God’s impartiality means, not making surface judgments, but paying attention to the character and qualities of others, particularly qualities that reflect those of our impartial Creator.”
If God does not look at our outward appearance what does it say about us when we do.

Thank you for sharing these quotes! It’s absolutely unjust how the lives of these victims were taken, and it’s important that we acknowledge their humanity!

It is disheartening to see racism and police brutality still prevalent in the world. I have come to understand that one of the ways to reduce the pain of seeing these things happen around us, is to continue to speak about it just as you have done Pooja.
It’s best we continue to use our voice as a medium to pass the message of equality.
Thank you for this post Pooja.

Pooja, I am a little behind on replying to this, but I wanted to thank you for speaking out against racial injustice. I believe that when we raise our collective voice in support of equality, we create momentum for progress and change. As the slogan goes: “Forward together – not one step back!”

Thank you. I totally agree with you the only way we can bring change is to work together as one.
