How Email Marketing Can Help Grow Your Blog

Email Marketing And Its Benefits For Your Blog

Marketing is a very important part of blogging if you are looking to grow your blog or start making an income through blogging. Many businesses rely on email marketing as a way of attracting new customers. For blogger, it can also be a beneficial way of increasing traffic, followers and even gaining some income. Here is how email marketing can help grow your blog:

Build A Blog Funnel

Many bloggers think of their content as a “product” and sell it online, just as any other company would. But that requires building something a little strange sounding – a blog funnel.

The way it works is pretty simple and it just involved leveraging your existing email lists. Here’s how it works: you send out your marketing emails, as normal. But then you get a website conversion agency to build you a funnel that gets users to do the things you want them to do. If all you want are people willing to read your blog, then you don’t have much work to do. However, if you want them to do things, like click ads or affiliate links, then you can get agencies to create funnels around this. In other words, you can turn your blog into a revenue-generating machine.

Build loyal readers through a mailing list

A mailing list allows regular readers to easily keep up with all your latest posts. Every time you post new content, you can share it to your mailing list, helping to alert your loyal readers so that they don’t miss it. There are a lot of benefits to having loyal and recurring readers such as having a stable and organic audience.Your loyal readers are a very important part of your traffic and increasing loyal readers is a very good way to gain organic traffic.

You can also use a mailing list to send newsletters and updates on your blog to help keep readers in the loop with what’s happening. Sites like Templafy.com are great for building newsletters and other documents. Such content can help to keep your mailing list more interesting. Sites like these can help make your newsletters etc. more unique and fun to read for your followers.

Building subscribers can be the difficult part. Many blogs contain a subscribe button in the sidebar or on the top of the page. You can also use pop-ups to encourage readers to sign up to your mailing list because not all your readers will take the time to find your follow buttons. I’ve also mentioned this before but a big part of why I stopped using the Business Plan was because it gets rid of your follow button. This is a great alternative if you want to stick to using the Business Plan, as it does have benefits such as plugins, but also want to increase your following.

It’s important to follow legal mailing list practices. This involves having an easy opt-out feature, as well as not adding subscribers without their permission.

Network with potential influencers

Email marketing can also be a way of connecting with influencers, who in turn may be able to help boost your blog. This could include emailing influential figures for interviews. Such interviews could help to increase traffic to your blog as you will likely exchange backlinks which are great for traffic and SEO. You may be able to find email contact details on their Facebook page (for relatively famous influencers, you may have to email their agent).

You could also consider emailing other blog owners and setting up cross-promotion strategies such as collaborations. This could include offering to both promote one another’s blogs to help increase traffic or write a guest post on each other’s blog. This is another great way to increase your backlinks organically and ethically.

Sell blogging as a service via email

Many businesses and individuals pay influential blogs to publish promotional posts such as product reviews or features. This can be a popular way for blogs to make money.

Larger blogs are able to charge more for their services. On top of sponsored posts in which you charge a flat fee, you can also consider affiliate posts – these allow you to earn a continuous flow of income based on how many leads a company gains directly via your blog (usually through a link in a post). Affiliate posts are particularly great for new bloggers or bloggers with a smaller following because most affiliate programs don’t have a minimum amount of followers/views needed to become an affiliate while sponsors may want to work with influencers with a larger following/traffic.

While there are platforms for advertising your services, you can also take the initiative to email clients directly. For instance, there may be a local business that you think can benefit from a review on your blog – you can reach out to them and ask if they’d be willing to pay for a feature. When you’re a relatively new blogger or when your blog is still growing it is a good idea to be the one to reach out as the company/business/etc may not be aware of your blog. There are cold emailing strategies that you can use to help sell your blogging service successfully, which you can read up on at sites like BreakingTheOnePercent.com.

    1. Thanks! This site may be helpful with that although it is a paid site:

  7. Hi, Pooja! Do you use email marketing yourself? I’m still wondering on how it works.

    1. I saw that improving my SEO helped increase my email following which consequently helped increase my traffic. I am currently looking into doing more email marketing wise because it’s new to me as well but this was what I’ve found out so far. I will definitely share more information as I learn more about it!

      1. Thank you so much! I hope I can learn about it too and fully understand it!

        1. Yeah for sure! I’ve heard it’s a really great way to grow your blog and outside traffic and getting email followers is something I find more difficult than WP followers..

          1. That’s so true! I think I only have 20+ email followers.

            1. Yeah I don’t have a large email followers either but I hope we can both work on building our email followers!

  8. There’s a thin line between a personal blog crossing over to something that can generate income. This all comes down to the service or product you ultimately want to offer a loyal readership, which then blends in well with the objectives of your site.
For mailing lists I use Mailchimp

    1. Yeah that’s very true. A lot of personal blogs eventually start generating income.

      1. My advice for anyone would be not to lose the essence of your blog and writing.

    1. Thank you!

  11. In my country, it can end you up in jail, or at least in court, nowadays with the new POPI Act.

    1. Wow I did not know that.

      1. Yep, and then there’s the Electronic Communications Act on top. Lots of gagging.

  12. Its important, is we have to carry paid email marketing?

    1. It doesn’t always necessarily have to be paid.

      1. It can be done automatically with wordpress.

  13. Thanks for sharing this advice! Maybe one day I’ll start a newsletter using the tips! 🙂

  19. The post is Helpful and educating

    1. Thank you!

  20. Wonderful post, Pooja! I have found email marketing to be highly effective. I like to email not only individuals but organizations that were mentioned in the piece or that are doing work related to whatever I’m writing about. Thank you for the tip about the popup button! I have had a few readers tell me that they wanted to follow me but that it was not easy to do so using the Follow feature in WordPress.

    1. That’s so great- I’m really glad that email marketing is working so well for you! I have only got into it over the last few weeks but I have already seen an improvement and I look forward to learning more about it and growing my email following. You’re totally right about the WordPress follow feature- it’s definitely designed to be aimed towards other bloggers rather then email followers.

  21. I totally agree with you. Building an audience is key!
Brilliant post. Really helpful. Nice to gain new ideas.

    1. Thank you so much!

  22. I’ve found this on many sites though and I really like that point about the emailing list.
What I would like to add/suggest is that, once you notice a new email subscriber, you’re supposed to have a personal connection with him or her, as this builds the readers interest in your blog, website or business.

    1. Ooh that’s very interesting I hadn’t thought about doing that! Thanks for sharing that.

  23. I got rid of the Business Plan for the same reason (probably because you made me aware of it!)

    1. I would love to read a post about how changing your plan has effected your blog. Just a suggestion though!

      1. thanks for the suggestion, but I’m not sure if I’ve kept track of anything. Besides getting the follow button, it has saved me a good deal of money as well!

        1. Yeah it’s way too expensive for what you get and the fact that it gets rid of your follow button without your permission is ridiculous.

  24. I haven’t set an email list yet, but agree that email lists are so pivotal for marketing and growing a loyal audience!

    1. Yeah they absolutely are!

  25. Thanks for this very helpful information! I can’t seem to build an email following but I’m definitely going to work harder/look into to it!

    1. Yeah I have a hard time with email followers too which is why I started looking into it and I will be sharing more information on it as I learn more as well!

      1. I look forward to it!

    1. With what?

      1. How the email thing works

        1. So far the things I’ve mentioned in the post are what I know about email marketing.

  26. Well done!! Keep it up.

    1. Thank you!

  27. Do you know how to add the email pop up? It says I need the business plan to do so but I don’t want to do that if it takes away the follow button? Thanks for this <3

    1. Unfortunately as far as I know you will need the Business Plan or a self-hosted site as a plugin is required.

  28. Its nice concept- due to mails do not get delivered in Inbox conversation ratio is scary. I did read similar stuff on WhatsApp – it explains the same concept .

    1. Interesting.
