My Blogging Journey

My Blogging Journey

.My Blogging Journey And Why I Decided To Share It

You guys may remember but a while back I took a survey and asked you guys what you wanted see here. And I got so many amazing responses. Some people suggested that I should write about my blogging journey over the last six years. I thought this was a really great idea and a while back I did a sort of mini throwback post where I used a site to help me see what lifesfinewhine looked like back in the day and how it’s changed over the years. I got a lot of great comments on that and also some asking to elaborate about my blogging journey.

It actually turns out people had asked me to write a post about that two years ago as well. I had started to but for some reason never published the post (I probably forgot lol). But everything happens for a reason and I’m glad I didn’t publish that one because not much had changed two years ago but I have made a lot of upgrades, changes and updates over the last year or so. I have way more to talk about now. So anyway, I’ve decided to write six posts on my blogging journey.

Since I began blogging almost exactly six years ago (it will officially be six years in about a month) I thought I would write one post per year talking about my blogging journey during that year as well as what was going on with my life and how it effected my blogging. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy sharing it with you guys and I hope it helps newer bloggers as well because as I mentioned I will definitely be sharing more technical stuff about WordPress too.

2015- Where It All Began

This is kind of the origin story of lifesfinewhine except maybe not quite as exciting…

I always knew I wanted to write- like always. A lot of kids when you ask them what they want to be when they grow up don’t know or will say something like “I want to be a princess” but not me. I was always like “I want to be a vet and also write books.” Obviously both those things worked out perfectly for me since I have written absolutely no books so far and am getting a degree in History (that’s what vets get right??).

Anyway, I always knew that when I grew up I wanted to write and by the time I was in my last year of high school I realised that I kept saying I want to write but I hadn’t actually written anything and that was super terrifying for me. As a teenager one of your worst fears is becoming a lame adult who settles for a job they hate and I felt like that’s the path I was on for some reason- obviously I was being super irrational but I was much younger and MUCH stupider back then.

Mental Health

This was also the time when my anxiety and depression were pretty bad and that really did not help. I was struggling with my mental health, being a full time student and just being me in general. And, I really needed an outlet and I was desperate to write. I tried a bunch of sites but nothing seemed to fit just right and I was getting increasingly frustrated. I felt like I had not achieved how much I had expected to achieve by 18 and it was really eating away at me.

So, I talked to someone who was a close friend at the time and she suggested that I try out blogging as she was also blogging back then and she was really enjoying it. Therefore, I decided to give it a shot and eventually after ignoring my initial anxiety started looking for names for a blog. I hate to admit this but I just went on Google and used one of those sites that help you create a name for your blog. I looked through a few names and thought lifesfinewhine sounded okay-ish so I decided to “give it a try.”

My First Niche

At this time my blog was supposed to be like my diary where I would rant about stuff. And talk about things I find interesting. Which was mainly anything to do with psychology back then. That’s why I thought lifesfinewhine kind of worked because it had the words “life” and “whine” on it. I think more than anything I knew this would mainly be an outlet for me and I really did not expect it to grow as much as it has now. Yes, I hoped it would grow over time but never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that it would grow this much and this fast.

With a lot of help and guidance from a friend I set up my blog and dealt with all the technicalities. Firstly, I’m awful at technology so I had to learn how to create a blog, write a draft, save the draft, publish the draft and blah blah blah. People think creating a blog is easy but let me tell you it is the furthest thing from easy. It is so difficult and complicated especially if you’re not good with computers/technology.

Lifesfinewhine Was Born

And so lifesfinewhine was born. This is what it looked like back then. Simple, plain and kind of perfect for what I was going for back then. Over time I knew that I wanted to change the look of my blog but back then I really liked this look and thought it was simple but really amazing.

My first post was a serious hassle. I typed it, retyped it, edited it like a million times till I had pretty much retyped it again and then edited it some more. It about what I was learning in my psychology class which was the psychology behind cults. I was so nervous to press publish but I finally hit the publish button, logged out and had massive anxiety for like half an hour. Nothing compares to the feeling you get when you publish your first post and you’re all excited and nervous and scared. I loved it and also simultaneously hated it.

No One Cares, Lol

Also nothing compares to the shock you get when you realise there are thousands of bloggers out there and that no one really cares about your posts as much as you do. I know it’s a harsh thing to say but it’s true. WP has one of the most caring, supportive and amazing communities on the Internet which is shocking when you compare it to what other platforms on the Internet are like but it is also very much a two way street which I did not know back then but began picking up on.

So, basically I got very few views, likes and about two comments. One from a friend and one from my sister. I was slightly discouraged but I was still enthusiastic. I think even back then I kind of knew that this was going to become a thing in my life and that blogging was something I needed to stick with. So, I kept trying my best and published about 40 posts that year. All at random times when I felt like it. Again they did not get many views, likes, comments and shares. I did not get many follows either.

Overtime

But at the same time blogging started to become more interesting and fun. I started writing poetry again, sharing my inner most thoughts and feelings. It was kind of like therapy but in a way better- mostly because it was free lol… Anyway, over time the blogging anxiety became less and less and the blogging happiness became more and more. By the end of 2015 I was actually much more into the idea of blogging more. And perhaps even regularly- like once a week. I was still a full time student but I was using my free time on working on my posts. My friends were super supportive and sweet about it which was really nice. But not surprising because they’re super awesome.

In a way this blog really saved me. More than anything it brought the spark back into my dull, repetitive life. It gave me an outlet, ambition, drive and a new goal- to write again. I will be publishing the next part of this post next week. It will deal with my blogging journey in 2016. So stay tuned for that. I know this post is a bit long. But I have so many fond memories of this blog and how it all started. And I really wanted to share all this with you guys. Also I do have a tendency to ramble… or should I say whine…

You can check out my posts from back in 2015 if you’re interested by clicking here.

  1. I completely relate to not knowing how to work wordpress at first; I only started my blog 3 months ago but for the first month I didn’t use any tags or anything and didn’t get any views but I still kept posting at random times because I just liked writing posts even if no one read them haha

    1. Yeah I didn’t know how to use tags either and then for a while I was overusing them. It’s fun to just write for the sake of it though!

    2. This is a strange new but exciting land to me too. But I also love writing my thoughts down even if no one reads them. I was so timid and I thought my opinions didn’t matter but now I’m growing more confident about what I think about the world. 2 months on.

      1. I’m so glad you are getting more confident now and are able to blog more freely!

  2. I really enjoyed your post! I have always wanted to write too. However, I have cerebral palsy and dyslexia and I use assistive technology and I have an assistant for 2 hours per week. It is one of the things that has both simultaneously cause me grief and great joy. I also write academic papers as well. Writing saved me too!

    1. Wow that is really inspiring! Writing really does save so many people!

  3. It’s been just 1 year of blogging , I’m a baby lol
    I’ve posted around 50-60 posts….
But actually around 45 of them were posted in this year alone lol
And around 40 of them in these 4 months of lockdown alone ….
To know about my blogging journey you can see :

    1. Yup that’s what blogging is like when you start out! Thanks for sharing your journey!

  4. I can relate to it so much, although its been a short while, few months for me.
Thank you Pooja for sharing this.

    1. Thank you so much! Glad you found it relatable.

  5. Inspiring words for all wannabe bloggers to understand that we all have to start from scratch and that it takes time for things to take off. More importantly though are your reasons for blogging – let it be about the writing and helping others (however small the number). If your words reach just one person then its worth it. Forget the results and enjoy the journey. Writing is definitely a form of therapy for me too! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yes it definitely takes a lot of time and hard work. Your priority as you said should always be your content and helping your audience. Thanks for your comment!

  6. Always interesting to read other bloggers’ experiences, especially when and why they first started. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you- glad you found it interesting!

  7. Thanks for this post. It’s really awesome seeing how you started and how far you have gone. You have really inspired me to keep going. I started writing with the same thing in mind (outlet) too. But I thought I could just get million views overnight and sometimes even though it’s not been long I started blogging, I feel frustrated. Sometimes I feel scared and have a lot of questions run through my mind – are people gonna like this? Does my writing sound stupid? What are they gonna think of my writing? Will I ever get followers? With your journey so far I think I now have the answers to those questions. Thank you so much.

    1. Thank you so much! I think we all have certain expectations when you start out and we all get those questions in our head. But through hard work, consistency and a lot of effort you really can grow your blog into something amazing. Even after all this time I get those kind of questions in my mind sometimes.

      1. Thank you. 😊 Looking forward to the blogging journey in 2016!!

        1. Thanks!!

  8. That’s so interesting that you always wanted to write – me too!!! I’m just sooooooooo much older than you!!!! Some of us take longer to get things together. No one’s perfect.

    1. Yeah everyone starts when they are ready and honestly it’s better late than never!

  9. You’ve done well. Keep it up!

    1. Thank you so much!

  10. I’m studying to be a vet and It’s very hard, hahaha. And I don’t know if I’d still have the time to blog if academic loads start again but I think it wouldn’t stop me, I love to be here so much and blogging helps me too. <3 I still have along way to go and I hope I get to be like you too, Pooja. 🙂 More power to you and your blog!

    1. Oh wow that’s so impressive! Yeah I heard it’s a very difficult field of study. I hope you’re able to find a schedule with which you can study well but also blog. I’m sure you’ll be way bigger than me- you’re a fantastic writer!

      1. OHHHH, Thank you so much!! 🥺🥺💚💚 I really admire you and your blog and I didn’t expect you’d say this but I hope I wont disappoint! I will surely continue blogging just like you and everyone else. Thanks for this, pooja, you truly made my day. 🥺🥰💚

        1. I’m sure you won’t disappoint and you are so welcome! I just said how I feel and I’m so glad it made your day!! 💕💕

  11. Hey friend…. It was really touching and I can imagine your situation…. For me, Blogging is an amazing journey where I find myself…. I was a broken person before and this blog gave me confidence to survive…. Now I am much more better than the old me…. And I do believe that the friends here is so supportive and I love them all (Including you)…. Now I have started Vlogging too but the happiness that I get here in my blog cannot be replaced with anything else….

    1. Thank you! I’m so glad that blogging helped you in a similar way as well and that vlogging is helping too.

  12. Such an inspiring story! I think blogging saved me during these months of lockdown from going totally crazy!

    1. Thank you! Blogging has definitely helped keep me sane and busy during the lockdown too!

  13. Wonderful post

    1. Thank you!

      1. You’re welcome

  14. It’s always interesting to learn how and why others started blogging and I think there are bits of your story we can all relate to. I look forward to reading your other posts.

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you found the post interesting.

  15. Writing can be very liberating, just need a little time and an open mind. Blogging is a great platform to get on that journey. Keep up the great work.

    1. Thank you and I totally agree!

  16. ✌️Being from non technical background..indeed its relatable.. From that very first day of writing the post, that curiosity to know about tags n all (😜and still working hard to get about technicalities hahaha), to hitting the publish for the first it a mix of feeling 😍and will always remain the most favourite and never to forget part of my blogging. Blogging is a perfect outlet of your feelings and thoughts. I m loving it😍😍

    1. Thank you! Yes it takes a while to get used to all the technical stuff but it’s so worth it to learn!

      1. Yeah😊😊🍀

  17. Very very congrats for this long and I just relate to all the difficulties that u mentioned especially the tags my biggest problem is yet unsolved how to create ping back 😂😂😂😂

    1. Thank you so much! By the way if you want to pingback someone’s blog use a link to a specific page/post not their blog in general.

      1. Oh!! Thanks in mobile application which option should we choose link text or URL ?

        1. I don’t use it on my phone so I’m not sure but if I’m not wrong you just have to highlight the text and click the insert link option when the post is a draft.

          1. I will definitely try and let u know!! Thanks for all the help.

            1. You’re totally welcome!

  18. I can relate to the anxiety you get on publishing your first post. I kept rereading and rewriting it also because of my perfectionist self. 😅 Good thing, I immediately paid for a plan. If not, maybe I got too scared and went back to my comfort zone. 😂 Thank you so much for sharing your blogging journey! 💖 I can’t wait to read the next one!!! Blogging is also helping me with my mental health and I hope I can manage to continue blogging even when I get busy with school and work.

    1. Lol yes it’s so annoying being a perfectionist! It’s good you got a plan too because I over thought getting a plan so much haha. I hope you can continue blogging as well because I love your posts so much!

      1. Same! I was also thinking too much about choosing between getting self-hosted or getting a plan. 😂 Are you also considering getting self-hosted?
Yay! Thank you so much, Pooja! 💖

        1. Yes I have been thinking about self-hosted because it’s more affordable and flexible but I will have to do a lot more research first. Do you have a self-hosted site or a plan?

          1. That’s true, but I only have a plan for now. I have to wait for this to expire since it’s not possible to get a refund 🥺

            1. Yeah I need to wait for mine to expire as well which is kind of annoying but I’m hoping to look more into self-hosting once it does expire.

  19. Great journey.

    1. Thank you!

  20. It *was* a long post (compared to your other posts) but I had a great time reading it and loved every second. Writing is so helpful on many levels and it can set you free- I feel you. 😊
    All the best: VVN

    1. Thank you- I’m really glad you enjoyed it! Writing is definitely very freeing!

I relate to why you started blogging. I started writing because I needed an outlet for my feelings. Blogging always brings some brightness into one’s life.

    1. I’m glad you found blogging as an outlet too- it’s very freeing for you!

  22. Pooja, this is really inspiring. For me, even though I have only been blogging for a year, how I got into blogging happened my accident pretty much. From my experiences of mental health at university I was advised by a friend to share my experiences of university. And that is how my blogging journey started, and now it is my favourite hobby, and it means that now I never get bored, even though it is lockdown and exams are finished for me!
I look forward to reading your future blog posts!

    1. Thank you- I’m so glad you found it inspiring! Yes blogging can be such a great way to bring awareness and share your experiences. I’m glad you were able to find this outlet and turn it into a hobby!

  23. I can definitely relate to the nervousness around pressing that publish button for the first time!😅 Looking forward to your next instalment 😊

    1. Thank you! Lol yes that fear is real but luckily it got easier over time!

  24. Congratulations Pooja for your amazing journey of blogging. Thank you for sharing this post. It really means a lot a and is an inspiration for new bloggers like me. When i published my first post even i was very nervous and scared to write it but bloggers like you inspire me to move ahead and write more. And now its been almost two months and i am obsessed with blogging. i really love all your posts and waiting to read more in the future.

    1. Thank you so much! I too was very inspired by other bloggers and over time I started to find it easier to post. Blogging has become such a huge part of my life too.

      1. Your most welcome. Ohh it’s really amazing. Happy to know that. True, for me also it’s just been two months and I am obsessed with it. haha😊😅😘

  25. Loved reading it. Your journey is quite relatable. I wish you all the success, health and happiness!

    1. Thank you so much and I wish you the same!

  26. You are inspiration to me

    1. Thank you- I’m honoured!

  27. Fascinating.

    1. Thank you!

  28. I enjoyed every detail, glanced through your posts from 2015. I tell you, it’s awesome. Starting a blog is not easy, writing and editing posts to make it presentable is also stressing but we got no choice if it what we love to do. In every thing we do, there is a beginning. It may not be smooth but with time it becomes better and great. Your blogging journey is so interesting, your passion and interest for it has taken you to a higher level that is great. You still moving higher though because this not your last bus stop. Great work👌

    1. Thank you so much!! Yes it’s so stressful but we love it so it’s so worth it too!

      1. You are welcome

  29. The vet part with the History Degree really made me laugh I have no idea why 😂 I struggled with tags for the longest time!
Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to reading the remaining 5

    1. Lol I’m glad you found it funny! I used way too few tags and then way too many. It took a while to figure it out but I finally did.

  30. This was such an awesome post I loved reading about your journey (and yes vets totally do history). Thanks so much for sharing. I can completely understand with the technology struggles as I’m also not tech-savvy. I’ve only been blogging for about a year and half and while it can be discouraging sometimes (such as when you work hard and really love a post and it gets very few views, or you realise just how irrelevant you are when there are so many other more established blogs out there), I’m really glad I started it because it keeps me grounded, it’s a fun way to network with other people and it’s also a stress relief most days to sit down and think of blog posts or just read other’s posts. Thanks again – you are such an inspiration and I hope one day you get to write that book (I also want to be a writer so fingers crossed for you) xx

    1. Thank you so much!! I completely understand your frustrations but yes blogging is so worth it and over time your blog/audience does grow so your hard work won’t go unrewarded. I love meeting new people and socialising too and yes it’s definitely a stress reliever!

      1. I think the key with it, as with most other things is about perseverance and persistence as you have to work hard for most things to enjoy some success

        1. Yes I absolutely agree with you.

  31. Really loved your journey. Now I’m waiting for your next blog

    1. Thank you so much!

  32. It’s really interesting to see how you’ve grown as a blogger and that clearly inspires other people too 😊

    1. Thank you so much- that’s so sweet of you to say!

  33. Good to know about how you started your journey of blogging. Blogging is a healer, especially if you are an introvert. Extroverts can share their feelings with others, but introvert rarely talks to others about their feelings. Through blogging they get an outlet to express their feelings and emotions.

    1. Thank you so much! I absolutely agree- I’m someone who has a hard time with expressing myself and blogging really helps with that.

  34. You’ve done so well! I’m so glad that your blog has grown and you found a space to express yourself!💕

    1. Thank you so much!!

  35. This was both informative and entertaining. I look forward to reading more about your blogging journey!

    1. Thank you so much!

  36. I’ll be honest, it took two attempts to read, mostly because my neighbour’s daughter kept banging on my door, had to go see the inlaws and deal with a busy toddler. Now I’ve sat down and read it fully and can relate so much! I mentioned all of the above because writing for me is also an outlet and adds something personal to my life in the same way it did to yours. I am also just starting out and extremely grateful for all the love and support you have been showing. It’s hard to think that you also had to start somewhere, because I look at you and your blog as goals! Super keen on the 2016 post 🙂

    1. Yeah this post is way longer so you kind of need to read it distraction free which is not always easy!
I’m g;ad you could relate- a big part of why I wanted to write this was to show other bloggers that we all start at the same point but with hard work and consistency it is absolutely possible to grow your blog. I’m always happy to support your blog because I think you’re a natural at blogging and I really genuinely find your posts interesting to read!

      1. 💖💖💖

  37. I really enjoyed this post a lot. It’s nice learning about where you were back then and your thoughts on life. It’s awesome learning about your writing and blogging journey.

    1. Thank you so much!!

  38. The weirdest thing happened, I am in the first year phase currently and relate a lot!
I remember when there was the Community pool on wordpress… I really miss having that around!

    1. I’m glad you could relate! I miss that too!

  39. I really enjoyed this post! I often find it difficult to find time to blog especially now schools back! It’s always such an inspiration to know other bloggers stories and that we all have to go through the same things. Your such an inspiration! I loved this post. Thanks for sharing❤️

    1. Thank you so much! I found it quite difficult to find a balance between school and blogging but eventually I found a balance which was awesome and I’m sure you will as well.

  40. I loved your honest and candid post exposing your vulnerability of how you stumbled on writing. I totally relate to all of it; the loving to write, the painstaking technology, grammar and spelling and then there is navigating the platform. It’s such a great form of expression and like life if you compare yourself you might go down the tubes but if you follow your heart if nothing else, joy and pleasure are sure to follow. Love how you have evolved as a writer.

    1. Thank you so much! Yes it can be nerve wrecking when you start out and I always over edited my posts. And yes navigating the platform takes a while too. But it’s so worth it and yes as long as you write from the heart and are passionate it’s so worth it!

      1. Thank you Pooja!
I have always been a jack of all trades and wished I sepecialized but the pandemic has been a great teacher in embracing all of my expertises and not pigeon holing myself. Like my career, my writing is the same. So much to say on so many subjects, wishing I could pick one subject. But again, I write from my heart, honoring what wants to be said so I just have to trust it.

        1. Yeah I prefer just writing about what I’m passionate about at the time instead of forcing myself to write about just one topic.

  41. So much success! Thanks for sharing your journey. Six years is a long time, especially online. I am glad your blog gives you the outlet that you need, and I can relate to this in a way.

    1. Thank you so much! Yeah I feel like I’ve been blogging forever- but in a good way of course.

      1. As long as you are having fun!

        1. Yes exactly!

  42. I loved reading all about your journey. It’s been an amazing ride and I’m glad to have been a part of your reader community. When I started blogging, I didn’t know much either. I could relate to a lot of points in here 😀

    1. Thank you so much! I’m so lucky to have met you on this journey and I’m so grateful for the support you have shown my blog since back then!

      1. I am so glad to have found you too. The feeling is mutual, Pooja. Thank you too, for all the love and support that you have showered on me over the years. 🙂

        1. It’s my pleasure!

  43. We started blogging around the same time, well 2014 for me, I kind of wanted it to be like a diary when I first started. Something that I could look back on to see my journey and what I had been through. When I started I had no idea what I was doing nor did I do any research about blogging. I was never consistente and there was one year I didn’t post at all. I wish I would have done my research back then but I’m glad I didn’t give up on it. I truly enjoy your posts and I agree WP has a very supportive community!

    1. I can really relate to that- I wish I had been more consistent with my writing as well and more active on the platform. However, it takes a while to pick up all the tricks! Thank you so much!!

  44. I loved reading about your journey on WordPress. It’s really inspiring for the fellow bloggers.!!!

    1. Thank you so much- so glad to hear that!

      1. My pleasure 🙏

  45. Story is amazing and have some potential for new bloggers. Should learn from you…

    1. Thank you so much!

  46. I relate with you so much! I also started this blog as an outlet for my thoughts but as my blog started to grow I realize the need to serve content that can be of help to others too so I slowly shifted from posting journal-type posts to semi-informative ones. This is only my second year in blogging, thank you for sharing your journey! I am inspired to write more and continue doing what I love whenever I read posts like this! Thank you so much! ❤️

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words! I love that you are trying to help others and are using your blog is such a positive way. I really love your blog and I am positive that you will keep growing!

      1. Thank you so much Pooja! You seriously inspire me a lot!! ❤️

        1. Aww thanks!!

  47. Great post. Readers expect posts like these

    1. Thanks!

  48. I loved this post (and didn’t find it too long at all! ) It’s always super interesting when I learn the stories behind the blogs, so thanks so much for sharing! Looking forward to Part II… 👏😁

    1. Thank you!! I’m so glad you enjoyed the post!

  49. Can relate to a lot of it. You are an inspiring blogger Pooja! 👏👏🙂

    1. Thank you so much!!

  50. This was really inspiring and encouraging. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Thank you so much!

  51. I love how personal yet light hearted this post was. I’m so glad you were able to find this platform. Of course I’m going to relate to you in 3,2,1….
I too was suffering badly with my mental health until my friend who already started blogging suggested to me that I try it!

    1. Thank you! Haha of course we have the same story of how we started!!

      1. Oh my god!!
I’m so happy to read it.
I didn’t know that your journey was like my journey.
I’m feeling the same way. But, your blog gave me hope and satisfaction. Yes, I’m enjoying it. And after reading it, I don’t want to stop.

  52. […] I just put up a post about my blogging journey that you can check out by clicking here! […]

  53. This reminds me of the first time I got a few views after publishing my first blogpost on WordPress. I was also super nervous when I saw readers from outside Nigeria dropping by. WordPress is an excellent choice.

    1. Haha I was so excited when I got views from different countries too!

  54. I love this post! I actually had a similar one! I remmeber, you were my first view from a different country and thanks for supporting my blog, I’ll always be supporting yours because I love it so much! Great post! 😀

    1. Thank you so much and I’m so glad I was your first view from a different country!!

  55. First, I really love this idea for a series and your approach to tell the each year of your blog as a separate post. Second, I totally agree that blogging is one of the most time-consuming and challenging hobbies to have!! People def underestimate the time and education required to truly grow your blog to make it look the way you’d like and to reach people the way you’d like to be reached.
Also, I seriously agree with the way you described the initial rush you get when you publish your first post. And it is so true that when you start blogging, there are these expectations of the engagement that you’ll receive. When in reality, a lot of hard work goes into crafting posts that people will want to interact with!
Excited for the rest of this series! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much!! Yeah I think blogging is one of those things where you don’t know how difficult it is till you try it yourself. And I think the expectations are super high when you start out but then you realise that it’s not that easy to be successful lol!

  56. You are a great writer.

    1. Thank you so much!

So relatable! This was the missing encouragement I needed. LOL!

    1. Thank you so much! Glad it was encouraging!

  58. I loved this! Thank you for sharing or journey with us! You are one inspiring young lady.

    1. Thank you so much! I’m honoured that you think so 😊

  59. It is so interesting to read about how you started your blog and how it has grown. Like you I have always loved writing and known it was something I would do. My sister consistently and kindly reminds me that to be a writer requires only one thing: to write. It is not about earning income (though that will be nice), or about having a many readers as we can (though it’s nice to know people want to read what we write). It is about writing and enjoying the process.
Thank you for writing, and I’m so glad you have found the joy in your writing!
I am almost finished the first draft of my first fantasy book (as I think I’ve mentioned) and it has been an immensely rewarding experience – and I have so many ideas to continue writing!
When I started my blog in 2018 it was an outlet to help me cope with depression, and let people know the different ways I cope. It has helped me find areas of my life where I can improve, and areas of my life I’m doing really well! I intend to share poetry, short stories, Andy match when I set up my website more intentionally to showcase it.
Keep in encouraging others, because you do it really well. Thank you. 🙂

    1. I am so glad you enjoyed the post!
I absolutely agree- your main goal as a writer should be to write and thanks to technology we have so many amazing platforms like WordPress where we can do just that.
It’s so amazing that you’re almost done with your first draft. I’ve always wanted to write a book and I’m sure at some point I will but I always admire someone who goes for it and just writes.
I’m glad you were able to find a place to share your experiences with depression and spread awareness about mental health. I think the more people that talk about it the less stigma and false information there is.

  60. […] I just published a post about that you can check out by clicking here. […]

  61. […] my writing and maybe I should continue blogging (spoiler alert- I did!). Although, as I mentioned in my last post, blogging for me was more of an outlet than anything else it was still amazing to know that people […]

  62. I can really relate to how you started out. Blogging has come to be as effective as some of my therapy sessions have been for me in the past. I’m happy that I also get to meet bloggers like you, Pooja.

    1. I’m glad blogging is therapeutic for you as well and yes meeting new bloggers is a lot of fun!

  63. I only recently started blogging as an outlet during a time where I felt like I was questioning myself a lot, whether that be personally or professionally. It was a way for me to think through everything and as I typed I felt like I was able to structure my thoughts and relieve some of that unknown pressure that I felt hanging over me.
I came across your blog because you were the first ever person to like one of my few posts and there was a sense of pride thinking ‘hey someone has actually seen and maybe found it interesting/useful.’ So I wanted to take this as a chance to say thank you for that.
Whether or not down the line other people will do the same I have no idea, but I do know that I’m enjoying writing. Maybe one day I’ll be able to write my own story the way you have, until then I hope we both can keep having fun as we go.

    1. I’m glad you found blogging as a way to sort out your thoughts and stop questioning yourself so much. I find blogging to be a great way to tap into your unconscious and figure your thoughts out better.
I’m glad I was your first like and I have no doubt you will have many more as your blog grows over time. I still remember the first person who liked my post and I truly appreciated it.

  67. I first learned about blogging when it started and was reported in either Newsweek or Time. don’t remember which one now. Because it was the flavor of the month I naturally wanted to try it out much the same as when YouTube started as UTube before they got sued over the name. LOL. In those days it was kind of unsophisticated compared to what happens on social media these days but it was more for the enjoyment of it than seeing how many people you could herd into a followers list. One by one the original platforms like Yahoo360 and Multiply went belly up and that’s how I gravitated to WordPress. Now for me it’s kind of interesting to interact with published authors or aspiring ones and in the process hone skills along the way I didn’t have when I started. I enjoyed this blog about your blogging journey. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much and I enjoyed learning more about your blogging journey too!

  69. Thank you so much for sharing. I really dig your post! It seems like your blog is a very authentic extension of yourself and that’s a very beautiful thing. I have been writing all of my life, but I can hardly think of anything that I have ever shared publicly until I created my blog space. Honestly, I am trying to do is tell my story and help someone along the way. We’ll see where it takes me. Be blessed in every post your craft…JD

    1. Thank you so much that’s so nice of you to say! I wish you the best with your own blogging journey!

  70. WOW 6 years!! i really like your blog because of your passion i guess i can sense it just from visiting- i want to be like that NOW but im so disappointed in views likes etc.. im very impatient when it comes to this stuff so now im kinda neglecting all of this. I shouldn’t because i believe everyone should have their own website. it’s like a great online business card.
thanks for sharing its really motivating to me… i need to work on this more <3

    1. Thank you! I’m like you- I like instant results which is why I’m shocked that I was so patient with blogging. I’m so glad this motivated you and definitely don’t give up- it takes a while but it’s so worth it!

  73. Gud post
    Loved it 💜😊

  74. I can relate to every single word you’ve written here. The big difference here is I am that “lame adult who settles for a job they hate”. Currently I’m in a constant battle with my mind to understand what I really want in life. Blogging is helping me in more ways than one. I really wish to become the happy go lucky person I was as a child. Hope I can chose the correct path soon. Absolutely loved reading this post.

    1. Thanks and I am so sorry you’re stuck in that position- I’m sure it’s difficult for you. I truly hope you are able to find what you are looking for and switch to a career that you actually enjoy.

  75. I saved this post on the day you published it because I was super busy to read it now I’m catching up. Just like you, I have anxiety and unfortunately, it got in the way when I first created my blog in 2014 too…I was just 14 and still in school but I was desperate to share my deepest, inner thoughts with someone and I didn’t my friends were ready for that kind of thing yet😅.
So, during one of our holidays when I was home, I used my dad’s computer to look up online dairies. I had a dairy of mine then but c’mon, talking to myself wasn’t enough😐. Anyway, something about blogs? popped up and the rest was history. I didn’t know what I was doing but man, I was excited. I even created two blogs that day. One on wordpress and one on blogger. I didn’t use the blogger one immediately though as it seemed there were no posts to read on my profile. My wordpress profile had posts so I began reading and also looking up topics I was interested in, one being music and stories.
It didn’t take time for me to publish my first post and it was about Michael Jackson, I love him so much. Anyway, the more I wrote the more aware I became and my anxiety eventually took over and I deleted the blog in 2016 after I graduated secondary school. I was scared someone I knew would find out about it.
Ahhh, I’m rambling too much but it’s so fun to look back and see the changes. I haven’t been very active and I don’t even know what I’m doing most of the time but I’m thankful for the little changes so far.
My current blog is my third attempt at trying and I’ve stayed longer than I did in the past and this is because of the amazing people I’ve been following and reading their posts and you’re just one more person I didn’t think I needed. Thanks for sharing and being inspiring.
    Unto the next journey 🏃🏾.

    1. Thank you so much! Yeah this post is a bit longer than my usual since I need to fit one years worth of stuff into one post so you definitely need a bit of time to read all of it. I totally understand your anxiety with wanting to share stuff. I was much more private and closed off in my earlier posts and rarely shared personal details. But the more I opened up the better I felt so now I try to be as honest as possible. Thanks so much for sharing your journey and I’m glad you didn’t give up on blogging because it’s awesome meeting you and reading your posts!

  96. Interesting! You’ve had a long blogging journey, that’s awesome.

And this passage: “I was so nervous to press publish but I finally hit the publish button, logged out and had massive anxiety for like half an hour. Nothing compares to the feeling you get when you publish your first post and you’re all excited and nervous and scared. I loved it and also simultaneously hated it.”

You are not alone! I feel this every time I post, crazy!

    1. Thanks so much!

Yes, that feeling of hitting the publish button is just so crazy. You feel everything all at once. But in a good way!
