I had such a great time interviewing Wonani and I hope you guys enjoy her answers as much as I did! She is such a great blogger and I am so thankful for the support she has shown this blog so I would really appreciate it if you guys took some time to go over and check out her blog which is linked below.
1. Thanks so much for being a part of this interview. Please tell us a little bit about yourself and what your blog is about.
I am a 22 year old Zambian currently living in Malaysia. I am in my final year of university, studying Civil Engineering. I’m also a writer. My blog is called Dose of Wonani. Dose of Wonani is about learning and life experiences, both about mine and others too. I write a lot about things I’ve learnt, mistakes I’ve made and other fun stuff like places I’ve visited and random stuff. I’m also extremely open to hearing or reading about other people’s stories or knowing about their art and so you’ll find that on the blog too. The blog has no specific niche so you will find a little bit of everything and anything. The plan is for the blog to be relatable to everyone.
2. When did you start your blog and what made you decide to start blogging?
I started my blog in December of 2017. I had just moved to Malaysia and was starting uni. The idea of having a blog came way before 2017 because I was doing a lot of writing. I wrote more then than I do now. However, I never actually started one. When I moved to Malaysia, I thought it would be a good idea to write about my university experience, share my writing and bring other people on board to do the same, So, because of that, I created a WordPress account, set up the site and here we are.
3. You write about a number of very interesting topics on your blog. Do you have a favourite topic or niche to write about?
Thank you! I have written a bunch of open letters on my blog. So far, I think those are my favourite to write. I think I like the idea of addressing people through letters. I wish we still did a lot of that today. I have written letters to my younger self, to my older self, to women and girls everywhere and to my future boyfriend. I love writing those mostly because they give me a chance to explore my creativity and imagination too.
4. What are some of your blogging goals for 2021?
I hope to stay consistent. I post weekly and I’m hoping I can keep that up even though university has become so busy now. I also hope to grow my following, work with more bloggers (like you), and I’ve really been thinking about upgrading my WordPress plan so I’m doing a lot of reading on that and I can hopefully make the change at the end of the year.
5. What is one piece of advice you would give to new bloggers?
There is always room for you. No field or area of content creation is too saturated. There will always be someone interested in hearing your story the way you want it to be told, seeing your work or knowing whatever it is you do. So fill up that room, take up that space. It’s yours. “The world made space for you to take up and you have a right to do so.” I hope that helps a new blogger who feels maybe this isn’t for them or they can’t do it like the next person.
6. What inspires you to write?
This is surprisingly a difficult question for me. For now, I’ll say life and the people around me inspire me to write.
7. What do you love about travelling?
I love that I get to see new places, have new experiences, try new food etc. The feeling of visiting a new place is really unmatched. Even just thinking about it makes me happy. Unfortunately, with the current world situation, I haven’t been able to travel and visit new places but I really hope I can travel this year. Fingers crossed I can. I’m also hoping I reach a point where my finances can catch up and be on the same page with my travel plans.
9. What is your favourite food?
Believe it or not, I don’t have one. I do enjoy a good, medium well steak and I love trying chicken nuggets from different places and rating them but having favourites, I don’t.
10. What is your favourite movie?
The Great Gatsby. I watch this movie at least once every year. Some people find it hard to watch and I really don’t get that.
