Blogger Interview With Cindy

Blogger Interview

I had such an amazing time reading the answers for this interview and I hope you guys do too. If you want to see more from Cindy feel free to check out her blog which is linked below.

  1. Thank you so much for being a part of this interview. Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

My name is Cindy Wanjiku and I live in Nairobi, Kenya. I am an environmental scientist by profession.

I love travelling and trying out new things. Basically, I love to have a good time. 🙂

I am also passionate about the natural world that’s why I started my blog, Terra’s Liege so I could discuss environmental issues and create awareness about it as well.

  1. When did you create your blog and what pushed you to do so?

I started my blog about a year ago (February 2020) when a friend encouraged me to be more vocal about spreading environmental awareness on a more public platform. I loved the idea because I would be able to discuss environmental issues with a wider audience and share tips that the average person could use to save the environment.

My whole initiative behind the blog is to synthesize information and write it in a simpler format so that it is not too science-y but still very informative so that anyone can learn something new and enjoy the process.

  1. You’re an environmental scientist which is such an interesting profession. What made you choose this career path?

I am an animal lover so when I was about 12 I discovered the majority of wildlife in Kenya and other parts of the world is facing extinction. That’s when I knew I wanted to work in conservation.

  1. In what ways can one help decrease pollution?

Plastic pollution is a major threat to marine and land animals. There’s something we could all do at an individual level to reduce it. One way of doing this is by avoiding single use plastic. Instead go for reusable water bottles and biodegradable straws i.e bamboo or metal straws.

  1. Why is it important for us to try to fight against climate change and how could one do this?

Climate change affects us all no matter where you live, through extreme weather, flooding, droughts and rising sea-levels. The disruptions brought about by this will affect our health, food security and clean water supplies. For the sake of life on earth we have to fight climate change. You could fight it by getting educated and learning how it works. Other things you could do are reduce food waste, eat plant based meals and opt for clean energy technology. I have written about climate change on my blog so you can find out more here.

  1. Why do you think blogging is a great way to spread your message?

These days nearly everyone does their research online and blogging is a good way to get your content out there. It makes it accessible for any interested parties.

  1. You write about emerging environment issues in an African context and as a Kenyan I’m interested to know how emerging environmental issues are currently affecting Africa?

Poaching is a major problem in African countries. The demand for wildlife products is devastating the numbers of wild animals particularly rhinos, elephants and pangolins.

Climate change is another threat. Extreme weather patterns have increased the occurrence of floods and droughts in the continent which has led to low food production in certain parts. There’s a long list of environmental issues affecting Africa as well as the rest of the world. You can find out more here.

  1. What is your favourite food?

Chicken with potato wedges, and pilau.

  1. What is your favourite colour?

Blue and purple

  1. If you could travel for a year what places would you visit?

I loooove the beach….so I would definitely go to as many tropical countries as possible starting with Bora Bora, Maldives, Seychelles, Bahamas and Mauritius.

  1. Thanks again and please feel free to add anything you would like to share with the readers.
