Blogger Interview With Catherine

Blogger Interview

I want to thank Catherine for being a part of this interview- she had an absolutely wonderful blog and I am sure you guys will love it so be sure to click the link at the end of the article and check it out!

1. Thank you so much for being part of this interview. Please tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

Thank you Pooja for doing these interviews, it’s been lovely reading all of them. I’m Scottish, from Edinburgh but now living in a small town near Edinburgh called Linlithgow, I moved there to be closer to the countryside. I’ve been a therapist and teacher – bodywork, healing and emotional release/counselling – for 30 years but retired completely from doing massage 4 years ago. My blog is about all things self help and therapeutic, from spirituality to stress and anxiety management and soon  will be adding updates on a long process of detoxification and cleaning up my diet I’m currently on.

2. What inspired you to start a blog?

In 2017 I’d taken a break from working in the therapy world to try some new stuff (went up to the Cairngorms in Scotland for 8 months to work outdoors in a eco huts/working croft place called The Lazy Duck. Wonderful experience but far out of my comfort zone!) and then just got a local job when I came back. At the beginning of lockdown I found myself with masses of spare time and had already decided to go back to teaching and therapy so decided to add a blog to my new website. I also finished off a book I’d started years ago on dealing with stress and anxiety (called Why Does Stress Make Us Ill? link here https://catherinestrang.com/why-does-stress-make-us-ill/).

At first I started a blog to complement the exercises in the book, I love leading meditations and had often been encouraged to record them. Like many people I don’t like the sound of my own voice when I hear it and felt very nervous about talking into a microphone but thought what a wonderful opportunity to get over this by doing recordings on my computer. So every few posts I upload a new recording as it’s much more relaxing to be guided through an exercise or meditation than trying to follow one in print.

3. As a relatively new blogger what are some things you are enjoying about blogging?

The writing itself. As a teenager (a few decades ago now!) I loved writing and secretly dreamed of being a rock journalist and writing SciFi novels in my spare time, ah well… Life took over and I didn’t really write for a long time until about 8 years ago when I started another blog. I didn’t do much with this and let it go after the first year. Mainly because of a sort of shyness about putting myself out there. I’d been a shy and quite private person socially for most of my life, I’m over that now but this past year I’ve had to deal with releasing the remnants of that when it comes to publicly writing – I’m almost there! But like Pooja I’ve noticed that the blogging world is a lot nicer than most social media!

4. How has your blog changed since your first blog post?

It’s changed to be more about what I’m truly passionate about, which is spirituality and the evolving world. I hope also that my writing steadily improves with  practice as I’m currently writing another book, this time about Spirituality and embodying that in a practical way.

5. What are some of your long term goals with blogging?

To be more disciplined about writing posts. It fell away over the past two months so to really get into a good habit of writing I have started a 28 posts in 28 days about being peaceful and am also doing some new recordings for this. https://catherinestrang.com/2021/02/06/from-stress-to-inner-peace/)  Also of course to grow the subscribers to the blog, this is an area that makes me groan. If I had a lot of money I would pay someone to do this for me so I could just spend my time writing and leading meditations!

6. What is your favourite food?

Oh so many things but I love lasagne, Aubergine Parmigiana, trifle, cheesecake, spicy red cabbage with root vegetable and cheese mash.

7. Where would you love to live for a year?

The mountains in the North of Spain, my ex husband is from Catalonia and I absolutely loved visiting that part of the world, it felt very peaceful.

8. What is your spirit animal?

I’ve been told it’s a giraffe?! I don’t know but would love it to be a cat.

  1. Such interesting names like “Lazy Duck” and “Grassmarket”. I am interested in reading all your posts. LOL.

    1. Lol definitely check her out.

    2. I was intrigued by the name Lazy Duck when I went up there and found out it’s because they have 3 Aylesbury ducks (bred for meat in the 18th century but now as an endangered species are purely ornamental) these are the “puddleducks” made fairly famous by children’s author Beatrix Potter. They are very slow moving, docile and lazy, the place I worked named their site after them. Sorry, geeky answer to your comment!

      1. Thank you for your reply. Ducks do look lazy when they float all day long under the sun, but it is said they are incredible hunters. Now I think of it, “Lazy Duck” can be a suitable name for writers since writers look very lazy indeed and often stare out of the window for nothing. Their work is in their mind, but the busy mind is often hidden from view.

  2. Thanks for doing and sharing the interview Pooja. I love reading about what other people’s goals are and which way they’re going with their writing. I’ll definitely check out Catherine’s blog.

  6. 🎈🎈Congratulations Catherine for the interview. Spirituality has a great future ans need of future generations. You have a beautiful blog. Keep writing.

I think, Pooja also agree here that we should develop healthy routine for blogging. We should try to be relevant. When we add values in our life we can transfer it to blogging and our readers.

I’m trying to be consistent, I have to mange it with my studies.
