5 Things I Hate About Blogging

Things I Hate About Blogging

Things I Hate About Blogging

I love blogging. It’s probably one of my favourite things to do apart from reading stuff about history. I love blogging but I have to admit- like everything it has its advantages and disadvantages. Today, I thought I would share some of the cons of blogging. Here are five things I hate about blogging:

Spam Comments

Things I Hate About Blogging- spam comments

You guys know this had to be at the top of my list of things I hate about blogging. I am so freaking tired of getting “please check out my posts” comments EVERY SINGLE DAY!! I can guarantee you that some people will leave comments like that on this post too. Because people like that clearly don’t read or even care about your post. They just want to advertise their own blog. And they think that for some weird reason other people’s posts are the best place to do this.

I have had the pleasure of reading a lot of amazing blog posts by a lot of amazing bloggers. And I think it’s just insanely disrespectful to ignore their hard work and use their blog to grow your own. I guarantee that every blogger puts at least a certain amount of time and effort to create their posts. And to be honest it’s also a really stupid thing to do as well as a great way to destroy the chances of your blog actually growing. Most bloggers block or delete such comments/commenters. If you just left a genuine comment talking about their post they would be very likely to check out your blog anyway.

I know some bloggers do this without realizing what they are doing is wrong. So I would urge anyone reading this not to leave these kind of comments. And instead take the time to genuinely connect with other bloggers. This is a way better way to grow. And honestly kind of easier in my opinion.

Feeling Used

Things I Hate About Blogging

As you guys probably know if you’ve been following me for a while I have a lot of posts with blogging advice and I guess because of those posts combined with my following people tend to assume I’m great at blogging (I’m really not I’m just very lucky to have such fantastic followers!) and I end up getting A LOT of messages, emails and comments asking me for help. A lot of them are general questions which I really don’t mind. If I can help someone I usually try to depending on how busy I am with school work. This doesn’t bother me at all.

What does bother me is people who are really rude about asking for help. To be honest,  I’m just a blogger and I don’t have to help anyone if I don’t want to but I try to help when I can because I’ve been blogging for like six years now and I know how difficult blogging can be.

However, some people sort of try to use me like tech support which is a bit annoying. I mean that’s not my job?? To kind of explain what I mean- sometimes people ask me about really specific technical issues they are experiencing and I usually tell them to talk to the happiness engineers because they are better equipped to help them with such things. Like one time someone’s blog didn’t have a follow button and they kept asking me why and I told them I didn’t know because I honestly didn’t know what the issue was and told them to contact WP since it could be a glitch. However, for some reason they got super offended that I couldn’t help them and became really passive aggressive which kind of threw me off.

That’s just one example, but yeah when that happens it annoys me. I’m not like your blogging teacher. I’m just a girl trying to blog and not go crazy writing research papers all day.

Another thing I get often is people asking me for help to grow their site and expecting some kind of magic formula that will instantly get them from 0-1000 followers. That’s not how it works- it took me years to get to where I am. I try to give them advice and tell them how I grow my blog. But some people get super passive aggressive as if I’m hiding some secret about growing your blog.

I also have had people ask me to go through their entire site and read every post to see if anything can be improved. Why would I do that? I don’t mind giving general pointers. But I’m not going to redo your entire blog for you. Especially when I’m so busy with university that I don’t even have time to write anything except six word stories for my own blog. It’s not my job to teach you how to blog. That’s something you should learn on your own through your own research. And I think it’s rude to even ask someone to do something like that for you. Unless they offer some kind of service to do that and you are willing to pay them for their time and effort.

Plagiarism

This is another one of the things I hate about blogging. I know people say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but to be honest it can be quite annoying. Sometimes I see people stealing my posts- like entire posts or using certain sentences word for word and it really annoys me. I don’t mind if one of my ideas inspires you to write something similar- I don’t even want credit for that. What annoys me is when people steal my work word for word.

From what I have seen in all the years I have been blogging I know that bloggers work really hard on their posts. And it’s really difficult to come up with unique ideas all the time. So it’s really upsetting when someone decides to steal your posts. And not even bother changing the words. And it’s not just me who has experienced this. Most bloggers have experienced this at least once which just makes me so sad.

If you are someone who uses other peoples work without crediting them I really hope you stop. Because it’s just so awful.

WordPress

I love blogging but to be honest WordPress can be super annoying sometimes. It had to be one this list of things I hate about blogging. I just feel like they don’t take their content creators seriously because they continue to make certain changes to their platform that I personally find quite unnecessary while ignoring certain things that would actually be quite beneficial for users. It would be pretty easy to find out what we would like to see them improve. Literally all they would have to do is ask.

They also continuously make changes without giving a proper heads up to people so they can brace themselves for these changes. As someone with anxiety I like to know if something is changing in advance so I can prepare myself for it. And I know a lot of people feel that way too. It’s quite difficult to deal with the changes when they are so sudden especially if you’re like me and are not too tech savvy.

Feeling Unsatisfied

Sometimes, I just feel extremely unsatisfied with my posts. I’ll put out a post that I put so much effort into writing and that I’m very passionate about and it will get a really bad response. And the next day I’ll put out a post I wrote about something random in a rush and it will do really well. I mean I’m super grateful but at the same time I kind of feel unsatisfied. Like I wish I had gotten a better response for some of the other posts that didn’t do as well. I don’t know if you guys have ever experienced this. But it has happened to me a couple of times. Let me know in the comments if that’s ever happened to you!

Technical Stuff

The thing I love most about blogging is just being able to express myself as I want to. Blogging has always been a place for me where I can just be myself. And then I learnt about SEO and DA and Alexa scores and a million other things and honestly when I think about them they just annoy me so much. Why does a post have to be SEO friendly and all that other stuff to be successful. I don’t get why technical stuff gets so much say in what readers want to see on your posts. This is definitely one of the main things I hate about blogging. Or I guess tech.

For example, I’ve been using Google for like forever now like most people who are around my age. And as the years pass I can tell the results are getting more inaccurate. First, you get a million ads trying to sell you stuff. Then you FINALLY get to the posts but it’s all irrelevant stuff that only shows up because it has high SEO scores. You don’t actually get the information you need which is super annoying. And you need to go through a bunch of articles before you get to what you were actually looking for. It annoys me so much because I see so many wonderful blogs that honestly deserve so much better. They deserve so much more traffic than they get. And most of it is not because their blogs aren’t wonderful but because of stupid algorithms that are screwing their chances of growing.

Another example of why the technical stuff is stupid is that they tell you what posts people want to see on your blog but guess what? They’re probably wrong. SEO stuff says your posts need to be long- at least 1500 words but how many of you have genuinely read posts that are that long without just skimming through them and picking up on the sections you want to read? How many of you are have even made it till here on this post? People tend to just ramble on and say things that could be said in like 500 words so that their posts reach 1500-2000 words.

Sorry, this section turned into a bit of a rant but I had to reach my 1500-2000 word goal… LOL kidding… or am I just going to keep rambling till I get to 2000? Kidding again? Or am I? Okay, I’ll stop now- I am very sleep deprived and just finished a three hour class so I am going to stop typing now before I further ruin this post. But I stand by what I said about technical stuff being stupid- it is stupid.

Your Thoughts On Things I Hate About Blogging

So, although I love blogging in general these are the things I hate about blogging. Do you also find any of the things I mentioned about blogging annoying too? 1. i totally agree with all of these !! but plagiarism is completely unacceptable, just wrote your own stuff, it’s not that hard ! wonderful post as always 🤍

    1. Thank you! I agree- even if you get inspired by someone don’t steal their work word for word. I mean what’s the point of blogging than? Thanks for stopping by 😊

  2. For me, I just write. I may never hit the top bloggers lists, or have thousands of actual readers, but I at least get the words out of my head, making room for more. I enjoyed your words, and have dealt with one or two of them myself, but its all a part of the fun right?

    1. Yeah I do that too now. I got so overwhelmed trying to make my posts SEO friendly- it felt like I wasn’t enjoying myself anymore. Yup it’s all part of the fun but I gotta whine sometimes lol 😆

      1. Don’t we all?

      2. I totally agree with you, I’m having that same problem too

  3. All relevant points. Thanks

    1. Glad to hear that thanks.

  4. As I read I thought ditto for each point. Another thing that bothers me Along the lines of spam comments in my mind are also those who click like without actually reading the post. I think of them as serial likers. Or when a new follower likes a bunch of my posts but I never hear from them again. I prefer genuine interaction

    1. Yup I get a lot of those- I get irritated when someone likes 20-50 posts in a couple of minutes it’s just not possible that you read them all that fast and you’re obviously just liking them to get likes back. I want followers who genuinely enjoy my work not just people who automatically like my posts.

  5. I love how honest you were in this post. I couldn’t agree more with you on these points that I too can relate to. & yes, I don’t think people realize but Blogging is SO hard, and it’s something that requires constant effort no matter how much you love it ❤️ sending love and light to you always !

    1. Thank you! People really do assume blogging is easy and people get famous overnight but obviously it doesn’t work like that. It actually gets harder the longer you blog because you need to keep coming up with new ideas and you have more work as your blog grows. Sending lots of love and positive energy your way too!

  6. Wow I couldn’t have said it better myself! Although, I have not had people asking me for help. I can’t believe they expect you to help them as if you owe it to them! I’m just learning about the way SEO works, boy what a shame. It doesn’t sound like quality gets you anywhere, it’s just whatever the computer likes to pick up. WP annoys me too when they suddenly change things. I don’t want to have to relearn things constantly. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” My worst experience with blogging is if someone misunderstands my point and thinks I’m saying something offensive when I’m not at all. That actually only happened once. I didn’t get mad, because I realized the person had comprehension issues. I try to be as clear as I can, and I know not everyone will agree with me, but I don’t mean to be offensive if I can help it.

    1. You summed up my feelings perfectly! SEO is definitely about what the computer wants not what people want. I hate that they fix things that don’t need fixing because honestly there is so much that does need fixing on WP. I have had people get offended about the wierdest things like my taste in music or my awards posts. People are going to find something to be offended by no matter what. Just try your best and if someone is offended just let it go.

  7. Lol, I’m thankful I haven’t gotten to the level of ‘tech support’ yet, and people personally reaching out to me are few and far in between, but I can see how it can be annoying to be expected to help others, especially when there’s no obligation to do so.

And yes, it feels pretty powerless to be subject to WP’s changes at their whim. Thankfully, you’ve branched off into self-hosting and have mitigated some of it at least. I myself am not looking forward to being forced to make the change. Thanks for this, Pooja!

    1. It’s crazy what people expect you to do for them 🤷🏽‍♀️

It’s definitely annoying to have to follow WP rules especially when they make changes without giving us any heads-up.

  8. I agree with these so much, Pooja. Your comments on WP are great, spot on. I’m that my photography and thoughts have been plagiarised… I think that all of the spam on my site goes right into the spam bin as I never see it unless I’m deep in the Admin pages. Works for me. And more, blogging is a bit like its own world in some ways.

    1. Yup plagiarism effects most bloggers at some point and I just find it so sad. My spam is horrible at differentiating between real comments and spam so a lot gets through.

      1. Can you find more spam blocking programs? This is similar to the 4 spam calls I received on the phone today. Blocked!

  9. Terrible that some people copy your post and don’t give credit. I’ve had more problems with my e-books having the covers misused to advertise spam…literally had to report to the RCMP to get taken seriously.

I don’t always have time to check out all posts…not that I’m being stuck up or rude. My stuff keeps me pretty busy and the alternative issue is that I have a condition that results in having trouble with fatigue sometimes. Like right now, I’m having trouble dragging myself around and feel somewhat foggy. I still have to do some stuff…but I find I’m mostly spinning wheels due to the fatigue and it feels like wading through mud. This time, I think it is spring weather. I think theoretically, it is a good idea, but realistically, it’s not always practical or possible…which kind of sucks. Energy levels are something that are iffy for me…I can be fine and then not fine. I learned to work through the burn…so to speak…at least most of the time.

Hope the paper went well and it is done (the one in last blog post that you were working on).

    1. Wow that must have really sucked.

I don’t really understand why someone would even steal parts of posts because isn’t the whole point of blogging creating your own content? For me at least that’s a big part of it.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling like that and hope you feel better soon.

The paper went well and I’m done with that class now. Thanks for remembering!

      1. I think it is OK to quote someone and if you’re taking stuff from the post, then it should be put in quotation marks and credit given. I think they have ghost writers who write for other people, but I think that is a paid thing. Glad the paper got done.

        1. Yeah I am fine with people quoting things as long as they give credit but it’s absolutely unacceptable to steal someone’s words and make it seem like they are your own. People do ghost write and I think it’s usually bigger companies/sites that pay for that.

          1. I would suggest it might be helpful to approach the person (message or something on the site). That’s how I started with trying to get my book cover issues addressed. If they made an honest mistake, they’ll change it, remove it, or give proper acknowledgement. If not, then you’ll have to approach the website. If that doesn’t work, then you have to go further…not sure if this is useful info. I had hoped it was just an honest mistake, but I had to go all the way to RCMP reports to give to the website to get it removed. Was not fun. It took a few rounds to get it done. Hope things work out.

            1. Yeah that’s generally what I do and most people do take it down. One or two did not and I had to report them after which WordPress automatically took it down.

  10. I love love love this post and enjoyed reading the comments as well. I see you’ve experienced everything I have in the past, and I feel sorry that you had to go through all of that. At first, I did the same thing: write about my feelings. For example, I had readers demand that I post artwork, but they never showed up to comment when I did. Or, others mistook comments as flirtation, which is ridiculous. As for plagiarism, I realised it was going to be easier to create posts that no-one wanted to copy. One reader asked me if my parents did my blogging because I had “too many voices”. As a fiction writer, that is a compliment.

    1. Lol that really is a compliment! Glad you could relate and yeah sometimes we just have to deal with these things ourselves.

  11. 6. Other bloggers trying to sell me things. When 90% of their posts is about making a sale on Etsy or Amazon. It is very hard to make any sales through blogging, unless you’re famous or very well known.
    7. People who don’t reply in the comments section. If I leave a genuine comment, I hope that the blogger will reply… and often times they don’t.
    8. Blog Titles that are as long as sentences, or worse – paragraphs.
    9. Bloggers who spam-like my posts but don’t leave comments or engage with me whatsoever. They do it hoping I will click on their stuff and follow them. It is so unprofessional imo.
    10. Bloggers who post 100000x per day. This isn’t Facebook. What’s even worse is when they post a title but no content.

I am sorry that people plagiarize your stuff. The closest thing I have encountered to plagiarism were other bloggers one of my blog titles or themes for a blog post, just hours after I wrote about the same topic.

    1. Yup I DEFINITELY agree with all of those! I have seen someone post content and the title was basically the entire content again. I have also seen people post 5-10 posts in a minute or two and had to eventually unfollow because it was messing up my Reader.

      1. Don’t feel bad about unfollowing bloggers who don’t understand how WP works. I agree that it messes up the reader and it’s really annoying. Unless they post super amazing content or I like their personality/feel some kind of connection, I usually end up unfollowing for the above reasons.

        1. Yeah I used to feel bad about it but honestly I don’t anymore because it’s nothing personal it’s just that their blog is not for me.

          1. It’s okay to unfollow spammy bloggers. I used to feel bad about it too tbh. I guess we get desensitized over time 🤭

One more thing that irks me is when ppl like my comments that I leave on blog posts but these people never interact with me. I hope some of them see this comment because it honestly drives me crazy, plus it spams my notifications. They get my attention but not in a good way…..

            1. Lol a bunch of people liked your earlier comment so probably not… I get irritated if they like a bunch of your comments but never leave a reply or anything.

              1. Yup. I noticed this too because I got a bunch of notifications that people liked my comment 🙄 A part of me hopes that they see this comment and feel guilty about it lol

                1. Lol I doubt that they will because most people who do that are generally spammers looking for attention. Maybe some will though…

                  1. Very true 😓

  12. Please check out my posts! Just kidding.

But in all seriousness, many of your annoyances with blogging are my annoyances as well, though I would also add that I’m not terribly fond of the spam followers myself.

    1. Lol glad you could relate!

  13. Yeah. The part about WordPress making unnecessary changes definitely resonated with me. Sometimes they take it overboard.

    1. Yeah I get annoyed that they rarely give us a heads-up to adjust.

      1. And sometimes they make changes to features that are actually perfect. I remember when there was a feature to type on a completely white screen void distractions. They took that out lol for no reason. Oh well.

        1. Oh yeah I remember that feature too- it was pretty helpful. They often take out things that they don’t need to and replace them with things that are worse.

  14. So true! I especially agree about the part about feeling unsatisfied. Somehow it’s the posts I work the hardest on that get the worst response!

    1. Same here- don’t know why!

  15. Valid points. Also, wish bloggers would not be in such a hurry to press ‘Publish,’ before properly checking their posts for grammatical errors and typos..there is a feeling of posts not being polished and revised and so they ramble sometimes in different directions. I don’t agree about that 1500 word thing, that’s way too long! 800 to 1000 is better. All that technical stuff about SEO etc goes above my head😁so I simply ignore till I get more tech savvy!
As for my observations, maybe because I’ve some editing experience behind me, I’m being so nit-picky haha..

    1. The bad grammar and typos are a trigger for me too. They can be a bit annoying if the post is filled with them. You’re not alone on that!

      1. Yes agree, Pooja. One or two slip ups are okay and acceptable but it’s putting off if the post is riddled with them all over. This takes away from the post which is otherwise enjoyable and has interesting content..

  16. I can totally relate to the problems with WordPress and technical stuff. I mean all I know to do is to put words together that are meant to carry a certain message to my audience and that’s it. That’s where my pleasure is. Anything beyond that is annoying. Another problem I think I still have is fear. This should be something I’m 100% over with, but no, I still get nervous before hitting the publish button. I still sweat when I finally schedule a post, after numerous edits for spelling and grammatical errors.

    1. Glad you could relate! Believe it or not I get nervous when I publish too especially if it’s a post that means a lot to me. I think that just means you care about your writing which is a good thing.

  17. You are on point, Pooja! I like to blog but I definitely can relate with the technical stuff and the annoying spam comments! Loopholes are anyway unavoidable in life!
    Wonderful read! ✨

    1. Thanks so much- glad you could relate!

  18. I’ve never gotten those spammy “pls check out my blog”comments, but I do get a lot of “pls read my story!” comments on wattpad (where I have a bigger audience). It’s incredibly rude. Like how you gonna barge into my content and panhandle for views? What in the world…

    1. It’s soooo rude and extremely narcissistic!

  19. Sigh a wrote a super long 6 paragraph comment and it just disappeared 👻

Pooja I found something that You might want to read please share it on to other bloggers and report it, it made my blood boil literally!!

    https://acton28.blog/2021/03/19/copy/

    1. I’ll look for it in my spam. What is wrong with that person- I truly hope they are joking…

      1. They’re not joking – they think there wrong is creative other bloggers abs myself have reported it to WP

        1. Wow okay so I’m going to report it too because that is not okay.

          1. Thanks if WP does not reply (I reported it 5 days ago) I will email them

            1. I have had the unfortunate experience of having to report a post before and they don’t usually notify you or anything. You just have to keep checking on it and see if it has been taken down or not.

              1. Yep I might email WordPress and so will other bloggers if they don’t reply

                1. Yeah you should. Maybe they will respond to your emails and you can see what’s going on.

                  1. I might do that soon

            2. This is what they said about the poem https://acton28.blog/2021/04/11/plagiarism/

              1. Yep I saw that

    1. Thanks for the reblog!

  20. I totally agree. I have been following you (and your wonderful blog) for years and have had to refollow you twice and search for you as my followers and ppl I follow disappear periodically?!?

After seven years on WordPress I still find it tricky to grow and find like minded writers but I blog because I love it and I’ll probably never get the hang of SEO or be popular but that’s ok with me. Great post

    1. I have that issue too- I have had to refollow certain blogs multiple times which is so annoying!

Thank you and keep blogging you’re wonderful at it and SEO really doesn’t matter that much!

  21. Ooh my goodness Pooja, I was laughing, I was nodding… just yes! I’ve dealt with plagiarism (and still do, to an extent) and it’s baffling and frustrating. Plagiarising your work is one thing, but what do you do when they try to copy *you*? As in, your style, your energy, pretty much everything about you? You see these bloggers that go from, dare I say it, kind of dull, and then they comment on a post that they really liked your writing and in their next work, it’s like they had a bolt of lightning up the butt and it reads very, very similar to something that you wound write yourself. If it sounds creepy, trust me, try living it. Creepy would be an understatement. It’s happened to me twice now, and it’s bizarre.

Spammy comments? Yep, I’ve dealt with some of those, too. One of those who commits the above often comments on my posts with links to his own writing, without even asking if it’s okay, which seems a bit sh*tty given he’s a real-life friend. I know that I should put my foot down with him more, but it’s honestly far less drama just to stick those kind of comments into spam. I’ve also had one or two who leave short comments that have absolutely no context to the post.

Feeling overused? Girl, 100%. I mean I write what I write, because like I said in my interview; I care for making sure the next generation of kinky people stay and play safe, but what when it’s other stuff, like sex tips or relationship advice? I literally don’t know sometimes. I mean I’m truly sorry if y’all are having issues but even we need to sit down and have a heart-to-heart sometimes. Just because my relationship is kinky, it doesn’t mean its perfect!

As for the fatigue, grr Pooja! Because guess what I had it scheduled to write about tomorrow? 😉 that’s kind of going to be a repost thing, but also talking about my experiences with being overwhelmed as some kind of sex guru agony aunt, as mentioned above.

Aight, imma be out of here. Keep writing and keep smiling 🙂

    1. That should be would write yourself* my bad.

    2. Yes OMG thank you for mentioning that- I have had that happen to me on multiple occasions where I have someone like/comment on a few of my posts and then try to turn into me. They start writing like me, do things I talk about doing, even reply to comments in a similar way. It’s incredibly creepy and unsettling.

It can be overwhelming when people keep asking for advice when you’re just out there writing about your own experiences and aren’t a professional. It’s actually a bit weird in my opinion. And very exhausting.

      Thanks for commenting!!

      1. Right?! The first time I saw it I didn’t think a whole lot of it, then I noticed this woman was acting like she’d been through a whole bunch of experiences that I had written about not long before. I decided to post about plagiarism and the various forms (so that I wasn’t directly calling her out and harming her) and the next thing I know, she’s periodically returning to our blog, picking up ideas and just tearing us apart on her blog. She’s now the only person who has been blocked from our site, and for an obviously very good reason! The last time I checked, she’s quit the blogging scene anyway. I just hope the next person who falls victim to her is ready!

Oh absolutely, and this was why we put together the brief guide to BDSM, so a lot of those common questions have been answered. It’s harder still in our community, where there is not and has never been any recognised and agreed book or manual that sets out a black-and-white guide of how-to BDSM, and a lot of it is entirely down to the individual on what is or is not right for them. I could make a joke about shades of grey joke here, but I won’t 😉

        1. Wow that is really scary- what a weird experience to have. I noticed a couple of bloggers do the exact same post as me for a while- like I would write something and the next day they would write on the same topic. It annoyed me but I ignored it and then one day I noticed they literally copy pasted a bunch of my sentences and they began trying to sound like me in the comments and I had to politely tell them to back off which they kind of did lol.

I’m glad you have that guide. It’s probably easier for you and for your readers to just go through that. I can see how that may be difficult though because it’s more to do with personal preference. Lol I always appreciate a 50 Shades joke so maybe you should 😂

          1. Yes exactly! You think you’re going crazy and then you cotton on and your heads just like “why would anyone want to copy me?”. If you’re famous and you have thousands or millions of followers then maybe fair enough, but I don’t even have 500, so why copy me? it makes no sense, and it’s still just creepy anyway. It’s making me shiver just thinking about it haha.

Ooh sometimes! LIke when someone asks me what BDSM is and I just want to bang my head on a brick wall because everyone has an idea of what it is, and it’s just not that unless you want it to be that, so yeah, having a page where I can be like “look, just go read this, okay? Come back to me after and we can talk about it more” is definitely an asset to have. I love helping people, I don’t like typing the same 4-6 paragraphs over and over quite so much lol. Haha well I will remember for next time! Ooh and if you love Fifty Shades jokes, take a read of Fifty Shades of Grey by Pam Ayres. If that doesn’t make you laugh, nothing will https://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5546830

            1. It’s just very odd I mean grow your own personality sheesh. I recently saw that someone stole my blogger interviews idea and I don’t mean like the idea of interviewing bloggers because lots of people do that. They actually call their interviews “blogger interview with…” and use the same questions I do. Like almost word to word.

Lol I will definitely check out that link!

              1. Oh my god! I’ve thought about doing blogger interviews before but if I was going to then I’d definitely write my own questions. I don’t care if it takes me three days or three months, don’t steal other peoples’ stuff, it’s just a total d*ck move.

                Haha no worries!

                1. It’s also super weird to steal someone’s questions considering there are literally hundreds of other questions you could ask lol!

Omg I loved the end it had me laughing so hard!!

                  1. Absolutely, plus it shows a lack of originality and creativity which, let’s be honest. who wants to be interviewed by someone who is neither original nor creative anyway? That seems kinda dull lol.

Haha I’m glad! We had a Pam Ayres poem at our wedding, “Yes, I’ll marry you”, and “I’ll be there for you” by Louise Cuddon, which actually had me tearing up a little bit when I read it again. We started off quite rocky before we got married, so for us it was a reflection of overcoming the hard times and looking forward to sharing the good.

                    1. Aww that’s really romantic! I’m sure it was very touching for you 💙

  22. I totally agree about SEO thing. Writing is a passion and sharing a pleasure for me. More than that spoils the FUN

    1. Yes exactly!

  23. Very interesting post. All the points are very relevant, especially those changes in WP. Thanks for this share.

    1. Thanks so much!

  24. […] read this post by Pooja at Lifesfinewhine regarding 5 things she hates about blogging. I agree with Pooja in that […]

  25. I enjoyed your rant hahahaha, I think you should write what makes you happy if its 6 words great and if its 200 then also great. people do tend to take advantage of givers who want to help so just stand your ground and dont let it get to you. Keep focusing on you and your studies!

You made me chuckle at the end of this post, i needed a chuckle , thank you.

Have a lovely day and keep doing you.

    Love and light.

    1. Haha I am glad you enjoyed my humour! I agree- you should write what you enjoy. That’s what blogging is all about.
I used to try to help everyone but now I just send relevant links or ignore them if it’s a really obvious question they could easily Google. I just don’t have the time to help everyone anymore. I try to help if I can and if not that’s okay too.
      Have a lovely day too!

  26. […] 5 Things I Hate About Blogging […]

  27. It’s fact…all it goes on and on

  28. Haha 😂😂😂, I enjoyed this rant very much, and of course, I made it to the last 😜😜😜😜 but seriously are people this ungrateful and entitled????!!!! Man if that happens to me, it can ruin my day 😑😑

    1. Haha glad you enjoyed it and made it to the end!! Lol you would be surprised by how rude and entitled people can be- it’s ridiculous!

  29. Hi – I found your blog via Stevie Turner, who also blogged about blogging and linked back to you. I agree with everything you say. The spam thing is tricky for me because sometimes it’s regular followers who paste a link to their blog in my comments. I’m usually okay with that, if it’s relevant to my post. But sometimes I’ll get someone who blatantly advertises their own blogs and books – toally inappropriate! Great post 🙂

    1. Thanks for coming over to my blog I appreciate it!

I usually edit out the link if it’s a regular follower and they generally get the point. I’m not trying to be rude I just find it annoying if the link isn’t relevant. Relevant links are always welcome of course!

  30. I agree with technical stuff😁

    1. It can be annoying!

  31. Love your informative post and I echo all the sentiments you’ve expressed there. Your last section about SEO and algorithm is especially on the spot. Posts are about content–at least more about content less about algorithm, but obviously social media is not constructed this way. In the long run, content still wins, but in the short run, algorithm rules. How absurd the world is–the digital world is as absurd as the real world. LOL.

    1. It is absolutely absurd but that’s just how it is I guess. We just gotta adapt lol.

  32. I totally agree with you Pooja even I feel unsatisfied with my posts at times that it could be written in a better way and we don’t get a great response for it. Nobody would like it if their work is unappreciated. But let me tell you I absolutely love all your posts especially your six word stories. I literally wait to read them. All the best for your future blogs I’m sure everybody will love them. You are a 🌟💛💛💛

    1. Aww thanks so much and I always appreciate your comments- they always make me smile!

      1. I am happy they make you smile even your comments bring a big smile on my face🤗🤗♥️♥️😍

        1. 😊😊💕

  33. This is a cool post! I enjoyed hearing your perspective. I can’t believe how entitled people can be when asking for help with their blogs! Crazy. Your awesome for even trying to help and responding to them!

    1. Thank you and yeah it’s the entitlement that really pisses me off!

  34. Agree with all of these. One reason I have a page that says not to use my words without my permission is to try to cut down on the amount of plagiarism. I also hate how WordPress can make legitimate comments spam 🙄. I have to keep checking it to make sure it’s really not spam

    1. I think I need a page like that. I have had soooo many comments stuck in my spam that are real and so many spam comments that get threw. So annoying!

      1. Give it a try! 👍

  35. Good post. I like the last point. Why there is a need for posts to be SEO-friendly. Thats really annoying.

    1. Yes that’s exactly how I feel!

  36. Spot on with these points! The spam comments and the plagiarism ones are plain annoying. It’s honestly so bad seeing a blogger’s hardwork go to waste just by that very act. The worst thing is when WP misunderstands the difference between genuine comments and bots, and just tosses them away in the spam bin. That sucks a lot! 🤦🏽‍♀️

    1. It’s definitely annoying and plagiarism is just awful.

Yesss WP never knows the difference and I always end up finding actual comments in my spam all the time!

  37. I’m new to blogging and I write when I get time for it. So, in my case it’s just the act of writing and editing because it takes a long time for me to finish one blog. I agree with all your points especially plagiarism.

    1. Editing does take a while even for me although I have been blogging for a while. Thanks for commenting!

  38. That’s a darn good list. All of those things suck some of the joy right out of blogging.

    1. Yes they can be quite annoying!

  39. I agree with all of the points. Especially the technical stuff. It’s been 2 years since I started blogging and I still couldn’t get it why algorithm, SEO or whatever you called, can be so annoying. I mean, should I write just to please others or meet the criteria of SEO friendly, so I can get their attentions? Should I do the same shit again and again, and ignoring the quality of what I write? Anyway, thanks for sharing your perspectives.

    1. Exactly it ruins the quality of your posts and it makes actual readers now enjoy them anymore. Absolutely ridiculous!

  40. this was great; I hope you don’t mind if I copy it verbatim and use it on my blog… 🙂

    1. Lol as you know I am a huge fan of plagiarism so go ahead!

      1. I guess I shouldn’t even have asked… 🙂

  41. Great post. You have raised many valid points. Site of a blogger or writer should be judged for his writing not on the technical stuff like SEO, etc. There are a lot of bloggers who write very good content but they don’t get that fame that they deserve just because their site is not SEO friendly, tags are not properly used, or any other technical stuff. It is very unfair. You have raised another important point that search engines give priority to long posts or articles to rank them, but how many people really and honestly read such long posts. There are very few people who honestly read long posts.

    1. Yes exactly it should be about the quality of the posts and whether actual readers enjoy them.

  42. I share your sentiments. plagiarism is super annoying! And feeling unsatisfied too.. because I wonder whether it is the spontaneity and all the imperfections it may contain that makes people relate to it better. than the other ones we take time with trying to make it perfect ?
Can’t tell. At some point, I just get to control overthinking.

    1. I guess the other ones sound more honest since they are not as edited. Maybe that’s it- I’m not sure why some are more popular but it’s super annoying lol!

  43. Aw Pooja you are so funny with your rants —I love it😂🧡

Same as you, something I would write randomly will do much better than the posts I would put a LOT thought and effort it and the whole thing makes you feel unsatisfied with blogging in general. That’s why it’s so frustrating when others try to copy your work because it’s stupid, mean and dumb thing to do. Don’t do it. A lot of work goes into coming up with ideas. x

    1. Yup it’s annoying and yes plagiarism is definitely one of the dumbest things you can do!

  44. Great post Pooja! I’m new to blogging but would be so mad if I found out someone was stealing my contents.

    1. It’s insanely frustrating- I get so mad every time!

  45. […] who talks about the invasive questions he gets asked about life without his legs, and PoojaG, who shares her frustrations with WordPress in and of itself. These frustrations aren’t about […]

  46. Actually.. I have just started blogging.. It was good reading your post…and you know I too am very scared of plagiarism.. In my schools too.. Whenever I try something creative.. The first thing to hit my mind is.. No one should cheat my idea.. And it’s really disgusting.. Creating your own stuff..
Bringing out your own emotions and ideas in your own way.. Is something really inspiring as well as interesting.. Why to steal someone else’s idea..??

    1. Plagiarism is just awful- I don’t know why anyone would do it.

  47. 🙂I can relate with your most of your sentiments. I’ve also experienced a situation whereby someone asked me to check his or her blog and offer him or her some advice. Blogging takes time and effort to succeed, I agree with you. It’s impossible to climb a tree for the top. Keep talking.

    1. Thank you so much for your advice.. 😊

    2. Yes exactly you need patience to succeed as a blogger. Thanks!

  48. I totally agree with all points – most people just gush about how amazing blogging is all the time so it was quite refreshing to look at things from the other side of the coin. PS – history is awesome 🙌

    1. History is definitely awesome haha!

Yeah it’s important to acknowledge both the good and bad, As great as blogging is it can also be a pain.

  49. Love you Pooja for your honesty.

Yesterday, I write a post named “Starting a conversation”. In which I have mentioned how I was feeling in the very beginning of blogging.

I saw your blog with other bloggers. You were just came back ( December 2020) you told your readers that your site went down and there was some technical stuff. Since then, I’m following you. Your work always inspires me. You can see I try to genuinely comment on your blog. I especially love interviews because I meet someone new and he or she also get chances to promote themselves through your blog.

Blogging seems irritating sometimes and I feel similar to your situation. Especially I hate longer posts which seems boring and hard to read. Now, I am working on improving quality of my posts, especially for SEO. After reading I have decided to write more genuine posts and not useless stuff.

I don’t know about Google but your blog is always trending here, in my reader section. In fact, I reached to this post in the same way.

My best wishes to you. Keep doing good work. Take care of your mental and physical health. Stay cool calm and relaxed. I’m proud to be a follower of Lifesfinewhine and your friend. I want to repeat again — Love you. 🤗❤️💐💐🆒✍️🌄

    1. Thank you so much- I always appreciate your support and it always makes me happy to see your comments.

I agree blogging can get annoying sometimes but I think it’s worth it in the long run because the good outweighs the bad. I just need to vent sometimes as well all do. Thanks again!

  50. I have posted a Blog every day for almost five years. There is nothing I don’t like about it. That is the advantage of not having many followers or likes. What spammer wants publicity from me?! From all the complaints, I worry that people are not enjoying the writing like they should. It sounds like being in school and having to meet term paper deadlines and stress over grades. It should be more fun than that!

    1. Yeah that’s why I stopped caring about SEO. I write what I want that makes me happy and if that means my SEO isn’t great than so be it. It’s definitely all about enjoying yourself!

  51. Amazing!!! Absolutely brilliant! 💖💖💖💖💖💖

    1. Thank you so much! ☺

  52. I’m not a very popular blogger yet, so I might not be able to relate to these points just now, but yeah, this blog has been written superbly and I’m sure that these must be some of the problems that most bloggers face, so yeah. By the way, i loved this blog so here’s hats off to you🎩

    1. Thank you so much!!

  53. Awesome post! I mostly blog for myself, I like shouting into the void of the internet but the spammy comments drive me nuts! I find them almost as infuriating as the random “likers” that obviously never read the posts.

    1. Thank you! Yup spammers of any kind can be extremely annoying.

      1. Hope you guys are using Akismet? I rarely get spam comment

        1. I am but sometimes it doesn’t work very well.

  54. […] 5 Things I Hate About Blogging […]

  55. Good post Pooja. About spam comments: kindly just ignore it. You can have a comment policy, what satisfy your reader and you. It’s about mutual understanding. For example, Thought about the post of discussion is allowed, anything else is an intruder. Besides, you can satisfy everyone but you have got to set rules and keeps functional productive. Readers who will like you will surely do and some will leave. They simply don’t belong here- your blogging space.

For feeling unsatisfied: that’s content you are talking about. You have to look at both posts and spot the difference. What was on the one readers like and engage with that’s not on the one you took time to write. Most times, I have noticed that when we are real in our style of writing, speaking or making videos, people tend to love it. It has emotional elements and that’s what I think people love most and feel connected with. Our content must real with real emotion. It’s all about passing a message. I believe we get it right when we say, blogging is your unique voice and personality about a subject.

    1. Yup I do ignore the spam comments but sometimes I just need to rant haha.
Yeah I think the issue is that some posts that I feel very passionate about I end up over editing which takes away my original voice/thoughts. I need to work on that.
      Thanks for the comment!

    Lovely and interesting content.
I thanks for sharing your feelings about blogging.
    Sometimes
    I am boring to write,
Lazybess, other works delaying my blog posts, thinking about content has sometimes taking lot of time to me.
I am really not good at English. Even I like to write my own English.

    1. Thanks! I can get lazy sometimes too so I definitely get the struggle.

  57. I totally agree with all of your disappointments . The point of unsatisfied is I like the most because it’s happen to me all the time , I am disguised by the fact of having bad response in my that post which I work really hard not only at blogging , on every social media platforms.and it is very bad to steal others hard works , and promoting their posts in an inappropriate way. great post as always .

    1. Thank you and I absolutely understand your frustrations with posts not having the response you wanted them to have.

  58. I really liked this post. I like how you enjoy blogging even though you’ve been at it for six years! Very inspiring for a beginner like me. 😊

  59. I agreed with these. Especially with the technical stuff that is really annoying. Why do you have to be technical expert to publish your blog when you are not a technical junkies! 😒

  60. Totally what I have been feeling about blogging. Though I am just and few months old, it’s great to connect with you and other bloggers through this platform. I am learning new things everyday and have been mulling on these issues, though I am not familiar with the WP changes that affect bloggers. But agree it would be great to be updated on these changes. Hope WP takes note.

  61. It was great reading this post! I’m new to blogging and I’ve only started exploring and experimenting.😊

  62. I came to WordPress specifically because it helps me not care if my posts “do well” in the same way social media platforms put so much emphasis on. I only even notice likes and comments because of the mobile app, I could just not use it if I start to get stressed out

    1. Thank you!

  63. Yes yes yes! I completely agree. Lately WP has been sooooo annoying for me as well. Spam comments is another thing that make me scowl. 😂 Great post!

    1. Lol thanks and glad I’m not the only one who feels like this!

  64. These truly are pet peeves of blogging! I’ve experienced a couple of these myself and have yet to experience others, so I may know how you feel completely at some point haha. Glad to see you still love blogging in general!

    1. Thank you and yeah I definitely love blogging despite the annoying stuff lol!

      1. It’s a good thing that love motivates you to continue despite all the annoyances haha it’ll take more than that to stop you! 😅

  65. Hehe, luckily I’m not big enough to be experiencing some of those problems, but yeah WordPress is just…not good. The interface, tools, and technical widgets are simply not user friendly, especially on the mobile app :/ Pretty frustrating from time to time

    1. Yup WP is one of the most annoying parts for me too and I feel like it just gets worse over time instead of improving which is quite frustrating.

  66. […] 5 Things I Hate About Blogging […]

  68. The last two points are wonderful actually, and they’re probably connected as well. SEO has always seemed so weird to me, it’s like trying to hack your intuition. The posts that genuinely have good SEO are the ones that are written by people knowledgeable in the field. Keyword density and stuff like that happens because someone knows what they’re talking about, and talks well about it. The stipulated post length happens because they have stuff to say, not the other way round. SEO is touted as this magic formula through which everyone can generate leads, but the truth is it’s still just good information arrayed in a clear way that makes all the difference. Good SEO is nothing but good writing, and this relentless focus on the ways to hack this is just resulting in a bunch of formulaic, useless content and eroding all trust on online content. I genuinely don’t trust half the things I read, especially if I can pick out signs of SEO engineering.

    1. I absolutely agree. When someone forces a post to be SEO friendly it can just end up making it difficult to read. It’s best left to those that are experts in the field.

  71. I hear you on the search engine issues.
Anything I’m seriously trying to find an answer to takes about a week. And sometimes I just give up on the search.
Use to be if you didn’t find what your looking for, change the phrase and/or words. Now I find many times I get the same exact results even though I change the words and phrases. My guess is this user intent thing. Once it decides what you are looking for then those results are the only ones you can have.
P.S. best of luck with working on your book

    1. Thanks so much.

True, I’ve had that issue multiple times too. I feel like their system is no longer as user friendly as it once was.

      1. Nope, seems they favour those who pay to stay at the top. The rest is either AI or user intent depending on which engine you attempt to work with. All you can do is keep blogging along.

        1. Yes, I think so too. Exactly, we just have to keep blogging and try our best to enjoy it despite WP’s ups and downs.
