Blogger Interview With Jen

Blogger Interview

I really want to thank Jen for being part of this interview. As you guys know we take mental health very seriously on lifesfinewhine and I really love when people talk openly about mental health because that’s the only way we can decrease the stigma around it. Jen is one of the amazing people out there that talk about mental health (along with other topics) and is also just a really great person so it would be super awesome if you guys took a minute to check out her blog and support it.

1.Thanks so much for being a part of this interview. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what your blog is about.

Thanks so much for interviewing me, I really enjoy learning about new people through your posts so it’s cool to be one of them! My name is Jen, I blog about pretty much everything but my main topics are probably mental health and invisible illness.

2. When did you start your blog and what made you decide to start blogging?

I started my blog last year, my first post was published in September 2020. I always used to write growing up, diaries, short stories, poems.. I loved it, and I guess somewhere along the way I had stopped. So with the world going a little crazy and my mental health being on a downward slope I figured why not just go for it, it’ll make me feel better at the very least.

3. Mental health is something I think is super important to discuss openly. What inspires you to share your experiences about mental health?

I spent a considerable number of years keeping how I was feeling and what I was struggling with to myself, until I got to the point one morning where I got off the bus, rang my doctor in tears saying that I couldn’t go to work that day because all I could think about was jumping in front of the train. No one should get to that point, and no one should feel ashamed for feeling bad. I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety, depression and ptsd and the best thing I’ve done is be honest about that and get the help I needed.

4. How has blogging affected your mental health?

Blogging to begin with was hard, I had so much I wanted to say but I put so much pressure on myself that it was very hit and miss. Now it makes me really happy, literally no one could read my blogs and I’d still enjoy writing them and posting them and it helps me process a lot of the things going on in my head by typing them out and sending them out into the world.

5. What are some of the things you love about musicals?

Oh musicals  From a really early age I was surrounded by music and musicals and they were always a way for me to escape. The magic of the music, the dancing, the songs.. the fashion, it’s like being in a whole other world, but also, music just feels good to me, there’s a piece of music or a song for every mood/feeling I think.

6. What advice would you give someone currently suffering from mental health problems?

Be kind to yourself, I know it sounds obvious but it can honestly be really difficult to do this. Talk to a friend, a family member, your doctor, call a helpline, it can be totally anonymous if that’s what you prefer but just don’t keep it to yourself, write it down, say it out loud, paint it.. do whatever helps you and remember, it is not your fault!

7. What is your favourite food?

Ooh my go treat is a Chinese takeaway, I love a satay beef with a chow mein and egg fried rice.

8. What was your favourite cartoon as a child?

I was obsessed with The Moondreamers but no one seems to know what it is! It was a bunch of magical kids living in space who delivered good dreams to earth children, and they had a villain who sent nightmares instead!

9. What is the weirdest experience you have ever had?

I think either bungee jumping or skydiving, I did both things to raise money for charity or I would never have been brave enough! That weird feeling of being literally out in the air looking down and knowing anything could happen was crazy, but beautiful, but terrifying!

10. Thanks again and please feel free to add anything you would like to share with the readers.

Just thanks for reading, come say hi if you want to, and remember we are all human, no one is perfect, but let’s try not to be a 🍆!
