Blogger Interview With Mama Lava

Blogger Interview

I want to thank Mama Lava for being part of this interview- she is so lovely, kind and has such a positive vibe! Do take some time to check out her lovely blog- as always it will be linked below.

1. Thanks so much for being a part of this interview. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what your blog is about.
Oh, my goodness, thank YOU, Pooja!  I have read many of these interviews and I’m so blessed to take part.
I am a Scientist, Wife, Mom, and “Mima” (Grandma) who loves Jesus.  My husband and I were once dubbed Papa and Mama Lava by a group of our kids’ friends, and we have gone by it ever since.  During the Covid-19 lockdowns, when we were only allowed to gather outdoors with a few people, the back porch of our home became our hang-out spot.

My blog, Mama Lava’s Back Porch, is the fusion of all the above and is my way of inviting everyone in.  I have a special place in my heart for people who need a dose of maternal love, but the Back Porch is always open to anyone!  I’m extremely grateful for the diverse group of people who drop by to read and converse about life.

  1. When did you start your blog and what made you decide to start blogging?

I am new at this.  I published my first Back Porch post on January 23, 2021.  I really wanted to share experiences and encourage people but, as an introvert, I can be so awkward at conversation!  Since the written word affords me the ability to think, backspace and rethink (I’m not the only one, am I?), I decided a blog would be a good way for me to reach out.  The experience has been amazing so far!

  1. You write about a number of topics on your blog- where do you draw inspiration for your posts from?

I get inspiration from life’s ups and downs.  I have a natural inclination toward silver linings and get such joy out of being able to highlight them for others to notice!  I like to take long walks, to have time with my thoughts, praying over them and putting them in order.  Some get quickly tossed aside, but out of those which linger come strings of exciting ideas, which I’m eager to write about when I get home.

4. What is your favourite post to have created so far?

My favorite post is called “Why I Trust God Enough to Contentedly Let Go and Let Glow”.  It ministers to my heart every time I read it.  It reminds me that I don’t need to stress over the safety of my kids and loved ones because God has their best in mind.  His way might look different than mine, because He is God, and I am not… and that is a REALLY good thing!

5. What are some of your long term goals for blogging?

I would like to continue building a base of followers who find encouragement in what I write.  Eventually, I’d like to publish a few books on topics which prove most advantageous to people and I hope my blog will help me identify what those topics are.  I also really enjoy making friends with other writers whose blogs inspire me.

6. What are some of the things that blogging has taught you?

Blogging has ruined me!  I’m kidding… kind of.  My work in science is fascinating, but it doesn’t stir my soul the way writing does.  I find myself dreaming of retirement and having time to walk and write all day!  It is an amazing feeling to connect with people all over the world and learn about things from their perspective.  It really is such an incredible privilege!

7. What is your favourite food?

My favorite food is dessert.  Donuts, brownies, cakes, cookies, pies.  My sweet tooth was the driver behind my Introduction Post: Donuts for Dinner and 5 More Helpful Little Confessions about my Life

8. If you could travel anywhere what place would you pick?

What a difficult question; there are so many places I’d like to visit!  Reading blogs about where you all live has made my list even longer.  I have been wanting to go to Panama since before the Pandemic made travel difficult, so I think that would be my first stop.  I have a friend who owns a Bed and Breakfast on a Coffee Plantation there and it sounds heavenly!

  1. If you could have any superpower what would it be?

My first thought is about my awkwardness at spoken conversation and how I would love to have the right words, in any situation, to make someone feel validated, valued, loved, encouraged, and hopeful.  But I know people who are amazing at that, so maybe it’s more of a talent than a superpower.  It would be hard to pass up the ability to teleport.  Who wouldn’t like to have a breakfast pastry in France, followed by a tour and lunch in Thailand, afternoon chai with a friend in India, before dinner and dancing under the stars in Mexico?  And all of this with no lines or jet lag?  Sign me up!

10. Thanks again and please feel free to add anything you would like to share with the readers.

Oh Pooja, this has been such fun!  Thank you so much for allowing me this opportunity to briefly connect with your readers.  I am truly honored.  I wish you, and the whole LifesFineWhine community, a very blessed day ahead!  You are all welcome on the Back Porch any time you like.

  3. “as an introvert, I can be so awkward at conversation! Since the written word affords me the ability to think, backspace and rethink”. Wow, that is so true. I feel the same way. I would like to be a member of the back porch–the online version. LOL. When I was young, we had a couple in our neighborhood who are like this. They welcome people, especially young people and they are the kindest and most fun loving people I’ve ever known.

    1. You are always welcome as a member of our on-line back porch! 😃 Thank you for understanding my love for the backspace button. I think I would have really liked your neighbors too. Our house has been that “gathering place” throughout the years. Good thing my husband and kids are good with spoken conversation. I’m still trying and learning. Have a great day!

  4. Pooja, thank you for your kind words and for hosting this interview. I have so much respect for you, for the talent you have, and the way you bless so many people with it! You’re a gem- rare and precious- and I hope you never forget it!
