I want to thank Rita for being part of this interview. She is such a wonderful person and I have actually had the pleasure of interacting with her quite a bit thanks to blogging and I can say without a doubt that you will really enjoy her blog so be sure to check it out. As always it will be linked below.
1. Thanks so much for being a part of this interview. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what your blog is about.
Thank you for letting me be a part of your interview series! My blog is about gluten-free recipes that I have figured out along my 18-years and counting journey with celiac disease and random things I like to write about – the whimsical writing part!
2. When did you start your blog and what made you decide to start blogging?
I started my blog on May 17th, 2020, so almost a year and a half ago. I decided to start blogging so that I could reach out to people like me, who had celiac disease, or other dietary restrictive eating situations. Also, a dear friend and writing teacher, Louise, encouraged me to write at least once a week. Since she passed away, I have tried to keep that up. I think she’d be proud.
3. You have had a number of difficult experiences in your life that you have talked about on your blog. How do you stay strong and keep going?
I have been through a lot, from an abusive childhood, to an abusive marriage, etc. (a not-uncommon trend, sad to say) but God has always been my strength. Sure, there were times in my life where I did not seek Him. In fact, I was just speaking to someone today about how it seemed He had abandoned me and I kept crying out “How long, Lord? How long?” in regards to enduring an abusive and alcoholic marriage. But you know what? He was there all along. I just couldn’t see Him working behind the scenes. I had to make the first move to help us and then there He was. Also, I don’t really have a choice to keep going or not. I have kiddos depending on me, some with very serious mental issues due to what my ex-husband and their biological father did to them. I couldn’t even think of letting them down.
4. What inspires you to share the more personal posts which can sometimes be difficult to share/talk about?
I have never had an issue zeroing in on a problem. Other than staying with someone who was hurting me (yikes!) If it’s something that’s out there and needs to be discussed with my kiddos, I figure someone else is struggling with the same question. If I can help them out, then I’m most happy too. We’re all in this world together and helping each other is awesome! I once gave a parent-child talk to my oldest child’s best friend about warning signs of an abusive person. It was an important topic that I think all young girls should be aware of (actually, all of us!) and she was like another daughter to me.
5. Has blogging affected your life and if so in what ways?
Blogging has been great for me, because it has helped me to decompress by sharing gf recipes and writing other posts about things that matter to me.
6. How has your blog evolved over time?
My blog has evolved because I was posting lots of recipes and then broke my leg, so I couldn’t get in the kitchen and ended up doing a lot more writing posts. I did a few poetry posts too and started doing the Marian apparitions posts. You do what you can. Fortunately, my readers stayed.
7. What is your favourite food?
My favorite food must be chocolate, especially Hershey’s bars with almonds – yum! Although, if you’re talking savory, then it’s my tuna fish casserole all the way! That has not changed since I was a child! I do like lots of foods, though.
8. What is your favourite hobby?
I have many hobbies. I guess my favorite would be singing. I do love to sing. I also like to read, write, watch movies, swim, and go for walks.
9. What is your favourite movie?
My favorite movie? I guess “Courageous” by the Kendrick brothers. I do like all of their films, but that is my favorite. I also like “Marry Me” with Lucy Liu. There are so many good ones! “Holiday Inn,” “Bad Moms,” despite the language and the sex talk – it’s hysterical! “Overboard,” the new version. Just too many to name.
10. Thanks again and please feel free to add anything you would like to share with the readers.
I have published “The Adventures of Snowball the Semi-Mighty Dog” on Amazon about child #2’s dog, Snowball. It is really cute, and is for the eight and up age group, as it is 33 small chapters and an Epawlogue. I’m ridiculously proud of it as it is my first published book, the first in a series, and it took a lot of tears and struggles, but He is triumphant! Thanks everybody! Have a great day and don’t forget to visit my blog!
