Hocus Pocus- A Halloween Favourite

I have been a little bit stressed over the last few days with some stuff going on in my life so I decided to take the afternoon off and watch Hocus Pocus. For those of you who may not be familiar with this movie, Hocus Pocus is a Halloween classic about some witches. I won’t say too much about it since I don’t want to ruin the movie for those of you who haven’t seen it yet.

I’m a big fan of Bette Midler and this is one of my favourite Halloween movies. I usually go for something more horror with lots of blood and murder but this year I decided to watch this one since I loved it so much when I was younger and remember watching it with my family.

Watching this movie reminded me how much I love Halloween movies and horror movies in general. I wanted to ask if you guys have any recommendations. What are your favourite Halloween/scary movies? What movies would you recommend? Nothing with ghosts please 😂👻

  1. HahaI didn’t dare watch a Halloween movie. The trauma of the past scared me to watch a movie like that.

    1. Yeah they can be super traumatic sometimes

  2. I’ve seen this movie at least once, Bette Midler is brilliant! But I’ll pass on the horror flicks, I just can’t stomach them.

    1. Same 🙈🙈

    2. Lol I love horror and yes Bette Midler is amazing!

  3. Interview with the Vampire, Salem’s Lot, Queen of the Damned. First and last are adaptations of Anne Rice Novels.

    1. Of course that leaves out Harry Potter….ghosts and Ghost Busters….Also ghosts. Not sure about Peanuts Halloween as one wears a sheet to be a ghost.

      1. I’m going to avoid those lol. I actually got really scared of the HP ghosts in the movies when I first watched them and couldn’t sleep for like a month.

    2. I’ll keep those in mind!

  4. Hocus Pocus is my all-time favorite movie!!! I probably know every line to it. No one things it’s as funny as I do so I’m happy you’re spreading the word!

    1. It’s one the best Halloween movies and just the perfect blend of horror and comedy!

  5. Any movie can be a nice distraction from disharmonious events we have little if any control over. Entertainment serves to reward ourselves as well as remind us life is far more than unsolved problems or aggravations. I’ve lost the flavor for scary movies and now prefer psychosocial thrillers to challenge my keen intellect, like Fractured or Girl on the train or better yet, Shutter Island.

    1. I’ve seen Shutter Island and Girl On The Train but I’ll check out Fractured. I always prefer pscho thrillers too.

  6. The BEST Halloween Movie!

  7. I have watched Hocus-pocus so many times. Always been one of my favorites 😁

    1. It’s such a great movie!

  8. I like Hocus Pocus. I don’t know how many times I have watched it over the years. I found a DVD set of scary movies called Horror Box. It has so many scary movies. Jeepers Creepers one and two are good movies. All of the Chucky movies, Jason horror movies, All of the Freddy Kruger movies. That’s all I have for now, but should I think, or come across any more, I will list them. Stay safe.

    1. I’ve already seen those and really enjoyed them. May have to re-watch them though it’s been a while.

  9. Have you tried anime? I can recommend some for the Halloween!

  10. “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” is my all-time favorite! Yes, the kiddos dress up as ghosts, but you know who it is and they’re not scary!

    1. I’ll definitely check it out!

  11. Bette Midler is usually great…

    1. She definitely is!

  12. I vaguely remember this movie. I guess I’ll have to give it a watch again.
I know you said no ghosts, but I highly recommend that you watch The Haunting Of Hill House. It’s a brilliant show consisting of 10 episodes. Personally, I think it’s the best show/ movie ever created in the horror genre.

    1. I’ll check it out although it may be too scary for me…

  13. Practical Magic (Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman).

    1. I’ll definitely check it out- it sounds really good!

  14. Pooja ji
    Welcome back
    ☺️

  15. I’m not into horror movies but there are a couple that I like:

Dracula starring Bela Lugosi is a good film, especially with the soundtrack by Phillip Glass.

“Spanish Dracula” is also good. Funny enough, the cast for the above mentioned English version would work during the day, then the Hispanic cast would use the same sets and costumes when working at night. The plot is the same, but there are certain tweaks that make it . . . dare I say . . .sexy?

Nosferatu is an interesting take on the Dracula mythos. While Dracula is usually depicted as a suave Eastern European. This version had him look like a monster.

The Shining starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. This movie is creepy on too many levels.

Alien starring Sigourney Weaver. It’s considered a sci-fi classic but it is best described as a haunted house in space. Weaver plays this space crew member pitted against an alien. She is bad-ass in that movie.

Event Horizon. Used to watch this as a kid. It’s a really scary movie about a cursed space ship that causes everyone to see their own dark shadow.

House on Haunted Hill starring the legendary Vincent Price about people staying in a haunted mansion to win money and getting killed in mysterious ways. Also Rifftrax made a funny commentary on it. Both should be free and online.

    1. Thanks for the recommendations they all sound really good! I’ve seen The Shining and Alien but the rest will be new to me.

  16. Agree with you Hocus Pocus is a great Halloween movie.
Take care! Take deep breaths! Take one day at a time.

    1. Thanks and have a great day!

  17. Hey, what you got against Ghosts? 👻😱

    1. A lot! 😂😂

  18. A biiig coincidence! I watched one today, a horror-murder mystery hybrid film, looks like it’ll get a part 2, but it’s an Indian language (Malayalam) film. It sure was interesting and I liked it, but I don’t know if I would recommend it to everyone.

    1. Ooh that’s so interesting- sounds like an interesting movie!

  19. My favourite Halloween movie is Coco. It is about being in the Land of the Dead, but they don’t look like ghosts

    1. Ooh I’ve heard of that movie- is it animated?

      1. Yeah, it is. I also heard the woman who is head of the lighting department at Pixar speak about it. It’s so cool!

        1. Ooh that’s so cool!

  20. Huh sounds interesting I’l definitely give it a watch in my holidays👻💜🤍✨

    1. It’s sooo good you’ll love it!

  21. I just… urgh! Every time I think of Halloween, I think of Hocus Pocus! I can remember one Halloween, my Mum had two friends called Jennie and Sharon (I was friends with all of their daughters lol) and they dressed up for our Halloween party as the witches. My Dad was Count Dracula from Dracula: Dead And Loving It, a film I now absolutely love as well! My whole family were mad on Halloween in the same way that many people go mad on Christmas. From gory food to fun games with fiendish prizes and our infamous ‘snot pots’ and ‘sick pits for the trick or treaters, we did it all. I’ve even written up a few posts before with some of the things that we used to get up to, which you can find here: https://kinkywithatwist.com/?s=halloween+countdown.

Now, you just have two weeks to get ready for pure fun and carnage. Happy Halloween!

    1. Oh wow that sounds like so much fun!! I’ll definitely check out the post.

Yup I’ve been doing Halloween things to prepare and I’m excited to dress up for Halloween!

  22. I agree, such a classic Halloween that’s not too scary!!

    1. Exactly- it’s the perfect Halloween movie!

  23. Haven’t seen it… don’t watch Squid Games unless you want more stress! No redeeming qualities!

    1. I kinda want to watch it but also don’t lol!

      1. I get it. I kinda want to replay the last episode to hear the words and make sense of it but I kinda don’t either.. lol. 🤣

  24. I am a big fan of Bette Midler too and watched several movies she played. One is about two women’s friendship which I can’t remember the name. The other is the “First Wife Club”, which is a wonderful book and a wonderful movie too. She is sooooooo wonderful. So loving and so vivacious.

    1. I haven’t watched that one yet but I will definitely check it out. She’s such a fantastic actress.

  25. My favourite Halloween movie and definitely a strong contender for my favourite “comfort movie” of all time <3 I look forward to October coming round every year just so I can watch this film (although I suppose I could watch it any time of the year, it gives me a tonne of nostalgic feelings from my childhood watching it around now)

    1. It’s such a great comfort movie too you’re absolutely right. I always enjoy movies that remind me of my childhood.

  26. Hocus Pocus is definitely my favorite Halloween movie. I rather enjoy Tim Burton’s movies. Corpse Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc. Good movies yo get you in the Halloween mood, bit nothing too scary

    1. I actually haven’t seen any of Tim Burton’s movies so maybe I’ll give them a try this Halloween.

  27. Ash vs Evil Dead if you want to watch something horror with lots of blood that’s so ridiculous it’s more of a comedy where it’s actually a comedy. I think Netflix has all 3 seasons and the episodes are short. The last scary “scary” movie I actually liked enough to like it was Dr. Sleep but.. I like ghost stuff so I can’t suggest a lot. 👻

    1. Ooh interesting I’ll check those out. Yes, please keep the ghost stuff off here lolll 😂👻

      1. Just remember it’s not ghosts but “evil dead”. lol
I’m sure you know those movies. It’s demon stuff, not ghosts, but it’s a comedy especially the tv series.

        1. I don’t mind demons or like comedy ghosts as much so I think I’ll like it. Or I won’t sleep for a few months 😂

          1. It definitely wouldn’t scare you other than a few jump scares.

  28. I love this movie. I think there’s a sequel coming soon 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

    1. Omg that’s awesome- I hope they have the same cast!

      1. Yes I think it will be 🙌🏼

  29. I don’t know how that movie is a classic. It’s perverted and pedo and shouldn’t be exposed to children. I prove this in my latest post which is on Hocus Pocus.
