How To Look and Feel Great

Introduction

I have been very into fashion, makeup and style for quite a while now. I absolutely adore dressing up and going out. I think I particularly enjoy it because there was a time I really didn’t like how I looked and now that I am growing more comfortable in my own skin I am able to enjoy things I couldn’t before.

From personal experience, I think it’s also important for ones mental health to be comfortable with how you look. When we feel confident, it shines through, and we look great. Looking good on the outside makes us feel more confident and happy. Having a style that makes you feel great about the way you look is a huge component in establishing your confidence.

Here, we are going to look at how you can both look good and feel great in your own skin by creating your own style.

What style do you want to be remembered for?

Think of someone whose style you admire. That person most likely has a unique style and exudes self-confidence. A style that people associate with the person. You want to have a unique style that defines you and that you feel confident in.

I am my own experiment. I am my own work of art. – Madonnna

Consider what style you want people to think of when they think of you. Do you want people to think of simple European glamour? Add a few Breton stripes, plenty of monochrome with pops of colour in the form of shoes, classic leather belts and scarves, and you have that style nailed. Want to be quirky? Fun patterned dressed, and brightly coloured tights can make you stand out. However, it is important to make sure that you feel comfortable in your signature style. If you don’t, it defeats the point.

Accessorise, accessorize, accessorize

When it comes to finishing off a look, accessories are essential. The right accessories can make an outfit. The wrong accessories can break an outfit. Accessories really help bring your whole outfit together.

I’ve always thought of accessories as the exclamation point of a woman’s outfit – Michael Kors

Choose wisely. A brightly coloured or patterned scarf will break up an otherwise plain business suit or jeans and t-shirt outfit. A pair of earrings can take a formal daytime look into a sophisticated bar. Thankfully, accessories can also be the cheapest part of a look.

Check your posture

It does not matter how good your outfit looks; if you are slouching or hunched over, it will not look as good as you want it to. Another reason to have good posture is because psychologically, having good posture may actually trick your brain into thinking you are confident and look good. It’s kind of like faking it till you make it. You may feel uncomfortable at first if you’re used to always slouching but soon you’ll get used to it and actually feel strong and confident.

A good stance and posture reflect a proper state of mind – Morihei Ueshiba

Poor posture can age you and make you look anxious and less confident. Stand up straight, push your shoulders back and hold your head high. Be proud of your look and show it off to its very best!

Break the rules

When it comes to fashion, there are lots of rules. But what is the fun of having rules if you can’t break them occasionally? From what I’ve learnt over the years, people are going to judge you no matter what so you may as well look exactly how you want to. If you think something looks good and makes you feel good, go for it.

If you obey all the rules you miss having fun – Katherine Hepburn

Standing out from the crowd can do wonders for your confidence – if you want to dye your hair bright pink, shave it all off, try out hair extensions after reading canadahair reviews or wear completely clashing prints, do it. If it makes you feel good, don’t worry if it breaks the rules.

Conclusion

I have spent a lot of time hating how I look and I have also spent a lot of time improving my relationship with my body. I have posted a few pictures of me throughout the years and I often get comments telling me how I look more comfortable and confident now and that’s a huge compliment because it took a lot to get there.

Improving your relationship with how you look can also really help your mental health and boost your self esteem. I hope you found these tips helpful and I hope it helps you improve your relationship with how you look. What are some things you do to improve your look? 1. Neat! The suggestions may be beyond the pocketbook of some. Best advice is be confident in who you are. That is what helps whether you wear new, thrift finds or upcycle your own works. Like yourself and you can make choices that feel good to you.

    1. Yes being confident and comfortable is definitely key to looking good.

  2. So relatable! I’ve spent so much time disliking how I look but am now finally comfortable in my own skin. Dressing well and a little bit of make-up just adds to confidence.

I love breaking the rules. I always want my clothes to be one of a kind so that I can stand out.

    1. I definitely know how that feels and I’m so glad you’re feeling comfortable with how you look now. It feels so good to be able to look in the mirror and be satisfied with how you look.

I love wearing unique clothes too! Makes dressing up a lot more fun.

  3. I have always loved myself and how I feel in my skin. I have always enjoyed dressing up, doing my hair and wearing makeup, although I don’t really need it, but it helps boost my confidence. I have my own signature style. I guess it comes from being an abstract artist, but I always be myself and the best beautiful me I can be. Thanks for sharing.

    1. I’m glad you’re able to feel confident and happy with how you look. Thanks for the comment.

  4. I didn’t really realise it at the time but I had an eating disorder when I was younger. It had some big effects on my health, which I still experience from time to time. It took me years to get over it and now I’m finally comfortable in my own skin too. Honestly, now I don’t care what people think of me and my style and my body and I love expressing myself through my clothes and makeup.

    1. Wow that’s really sad that you went through that but I’m so glad you were able to move past it and love the way you look.

  5. Certainly relatable
Dressing up has become a big part of for the same reasons as you, that I didn’t like how I looked growing up. From the time I started loving myself, I loved everything about my physique. It’s been such a great journey to see how a good outfit with a cute accessory can do to one’s confidence

    1. I’m so glad you found this relatable and I’m happy you love dressing up too. It’s just a great confidence booster.

  6. Accessories? No thanks Pooja, I’ve always had a very simple dress style, I wear little if any make up and I often rock a messy bun. However, I’m also known for being confident and carefree haha. My ex used to want to change me, he used to want me to be more dressed up than what I am or was, but simple and understated is my style, I let my personality do the talking instead lol. That said, I do think everyone needs to develop their own style, there are no hard and fast rules on what works for everyone. An interesting post as always 🙂

    1. Thanks and yes definitely do you. If you like how you look and are comfortable with your choices definitely stick with them!

  7. Love your tips there! Lately, I have been trying to experiment with staying warm in a Canaidan winter with still looking good. The struggle is real! Although, I love Alexis Rose’s style. I have always gone for the Boho look myself

    1. Haha the struggle is so real. I looked like a potato my first winter 😂🥲 The boho look is definitely very cute.

  8. great post Pooja!~ I live in sweats with my business as you know. Thankfully i clean up well. I just wonder when we’ll get out again. Truths here ” if you are slouching or hunched over, it will not look as good as you want it to. Another reason to have good posture is because psychologically, having good posture may actually trick your brain into thinking you are confident and look good”.
    💖💖
I and not to mention how bad poo posture is fo you physically!

    1. You definitely do clean up well! I’ve been trying so hard to not slouch and it helps for sure because my random back pain went away lol 😂

      1. well thanks…if you could see me now. 😂
Oh YAY!!! and I thought it was because you were doing my workouts on line! 😂

        1. Haha well that too 😅

  9. These are some great tips! For me, my scent compliments my look. After picking my outfit and accessories, the perfume I wear is the finishing touch and such a confident booster for me.

    1. Thanks so much! Oh that’s a good one too- the perfect perfume really brings everything together!

  10. Inspiring! 🤩

  11. I’ve always associated my confidence with how comfortable/ satisfied I’m with the clothes I wear. None of what others say matters.

    1. Feeling comfortable and happy with your outfit is one of the most important things when it comes to picking what to wear.

  12. I love love this article and its given me an idea for my next post! Thank you so much for such great content you post here!

    1. Oh yay- thank you so much!!

  13. Well, I never liked myself and I still don’t. This made me very uncomfortable. I avoid places, I avoid crowd, I avoid people. I feel people are watching and judging me on how I look. I was always over-weight, been bullied a lot. So, this took my confidence completely.
If anyone wants to be confident, then people should work on their body. However, I won’t say it’s bad to be fat. It’s fantastic. But, I personally think a lot of confidence can be gained through good physique.
Another, major problem I face is, not many good clothes are available in plus sizes, that’s depressing again.
    .
Btw, don’t get mad please. But, you look so pretty dear buddy. You have inspired me a lot. I really look up to you for guidance and motivation. I don’t know what you went through, but you are phenomenal. Thanks for being so supportive.

    1. That’s how I used to feel too because I used to get fat shamed a lot. Yes, many clothes are not available in bigger sizes. It’s awful. It’s so hard to shop when you’re bigger.
      .
Thanks so much. I appreciate that so much and I am glad I am able to help.

      1. I really love the idea of this blog.
I think more blogs like these are needed. These are encouraging positive talk.

        1. Thanks and will hopefully be sharing a similar post soon.
