Songs That Make Me Cry

Songs That Can Make You Cry

Music That Hits You In The Feels

I don’t know about you guys but music is something that really makes me connect with my emotions. When a song is done right, it will make you feel a certain way even if it has nothing to do with you or your life.

Music has always been a big part of my life and I have shared a lot of posts about music. I love most genres of music although admittedly I could live without new country- sorry Toby Keith, the pandering just isn’t for me. However, I generally always share songs that I love that make me happy but today I thought I would share some songs that although are fantastic can be total tearjerkers.

Cats In The Cradle

Yup, this had to be the first one on the list because it just gets me every time. The story in the lyrics is so depressing but also so incredibly realistic. How many amazing moments do we miss because we’re too busy working and the sad part is that we can’t even stop working because with the way the prices are these days it’s impossible to survive if we’re not constantly working out butt off. If you have never heard this song I would 100/10 recommend it but have some tissues close by.

Hero Of War- Rise Against

As a history major this song is particularly difficult for me to hear. One thing I have learnt about war is that the people who start them rarely suffer as a consequence. It’s always the innocent that die and suffer. The lyrics for this song are so touching and the contrast between the beginning and end of the song is what really brings tears to my eyes.

Buddy- Willie Nelson

There is just something about this song that brings tears to my eyes. The way Willie Nelson sings it and the soft guitar all just come together to make the perfect tearjerker. His voice is just so filled with emotions, it always gets me. Plus, I associate it with Parks And Recreation now so that makes it even more emotional for me.

Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd

I used to listen to this song a lot when I was facing the worst of my depression because that’s how I felt- comfortably numb. Nothing brought me joy anymore and it felt like I was sinking in quicksand. Slowly, but definitely sinking. This song still makes me really emotional because of the lyrics and because of everything I went through when I listened to it a lot. I sort of avoid it now for the most part because sometimes it’s too difficult to listen to.

Asleep- The Smiths

I was first introduced to this song thanks to “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.” If you haven’t read the book or watched the movie I would highly recommend doing both as soon as you can. I think the song is so sad and difficult to listen to as it is and when you associate it with the book/movie it makes it even sadder. This song always makes me want to cry no matter how many times I hear it.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed this list of songs and hopefully they didn’t make you cry too hard. What song/songs always bring tears to your eyes? Let me know in the comments below because I always love hearing from you and I could always use some new songs to listen to when I’m sad (or pretending I’m in a music video).

  1. Why does Comfortably Numb make you weep, Pooja? Maybe a nosy question, there are many songs that make me cry easily which is why if I hear them, I leave or do something to avoid the sound.

    1. Yeah I generally avoid these songs too most of the time. I think Comfortably Numb makes me cry mostly because I associate it with some sad memories of when I was having a hard time. I know what it’s like to be comfortably numb but now happy. That’s how I felt back then in a way.

  2. 1. ) Read the back story after watching the video on the first one. Give these a go.

When I’m gone-by Joey and Rory Feeks.
2.) The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost. by Craig Morgan
    3.) Jealous- by Labyrinth

    1. I’ll definitely check these out thanks for sharing them.

  3. Great post!
There are certain songs that makes me cry. Maybe because of their music or the emotions involved.

    1. Thanks and yeah we all have songs that just really move us and provoke emotion.

  4. Purple Rain gets me every time, even the elevator or grocery store rendetions, no words needed 😭

    1. Yeah that song can really bring on the tears 😢

  5. I am not musical and I have to say I’ve never felt emotional about a song. I guess this is why I am called a person with no ears. However I did shed tears for poems, books, movies, or TV shows.

    1. That’s understandable not everyone feels that connected with music. I have also cried due to certain shows or movies or books/poems.

  6. Nice post!
But… Songs doesn’t make me cry, in fact, i feel relieved after (or while) listening to them.

    1. Thanks and that’s so wonderful!

  7. I heard about ‘Cats in The Cradle’ because the song was mentioned in The Middle and Modern Family. It’s so sad and so true. ☹️

I think depending on my mood – different songs make me cry at different points in time. But anything related to parents is a sure shot way. There’s this Bollywood movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’ which was a song called ‘Maa’. The kid is singing this song for his mother – telling her of all the things that scare him and how she’s the only one that makes his fears go way. It’s so so so 😭.

    1. Omg Taare Zameen Par was such a moving movie I was crying throughout most of it anyway but that song really just brings out the tears for sure 😭😭

  8. I was once in Penn Station in New York City and a street musician was playing at the 34th street main ticket area vestibule. He was playing a cello and I’m sorry I didn’t have a chance to write down the name of the song or composer, but I felt unending and continuous deep sorrow. And unlike with most classical music there were no slow spots, or breaks, or interludes, or change of rhythm or mood, but unending tears that I held back because I was in public. I had an appointment so I had to leave after about ten minutes. I’ve never been able to find that cello solo. The cello pieces I find always ruin themselves somewhere in the middle. That’s why I hate most classical music because they won’t stick with a great dramatic theme and always wander off except in versions used in cartoons. There are some great classical excerpts used in cartoons. I remember there was a cartoon where the ghost of Schubert came back to finish his unfinished symphony.

    1. Wow what an experience. I’m sorry you could never find that cello solo again. I didn’t really think of music in cartoons especially classical music even though there is quite a bit of it especially in older cartoons like the ones I grew up watching.

  9. Thanks for sharing . I listen all.

    1. Thanks so much.

  10. Great post. My five: Always remember us this way; Look how far; You always hurt the one you love; Blanket; Wichita lineman.

    1. Thanks for sharing yours I’ll check them out.

  11. Totally not a country music fan myself. Tend to go for the rock/classic rock/pop. If I want to feel sad, I just watch the news. There is a piano player on YouTube I follow Jon O and a rocker Paul A that I follow. I like their music. I can get you links if you’d like. Other than that the old Boston, Journey, Guns ‘N Roses, KISS kind of stuff…which nowadays I think is called Classical Rock. In my day it was modern 😉

    1. Yeah I like the classic rock songs too and Journey is one of my favourite bands 😊

      1. The piano player is Jon: https://www.youtube.com/c/jmopiano and the rocker is Paul: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2WF_kLZLSeHj3aYMfO66Fw I like their music. Along with the other classicals.

        1. Thanks so much for sharing the links- I’ll definitely check them out. I’m always looking for new music to listen to.

          1. Happy to be of service.

  14. great music connections Pooja that bring tears to my eyes too,. Cats in the Cradle is my song for my dad 💖🌹 I don’t cry anymore tho because I have crossed a threshhold from mouring to understanding.

    1. Thanks so much 🥰
Yeah I think as we grow we let go of the main and begin to understand things from our parents side.

      1. You’re welcome Pooja.. either that or it’s pay back time. 😂😂😂😂 😳😳🤩

        1. A little bit of both works best 😆😉

  15. My Life Is In Your Hands by Kirk Franklin. I have a few lists of songs on my site, you may want to check them out.

  17. I will try to check out those songs. Meanwhile Lovely by Billie Ellish and Khalid is so emotional. So it makes me cry.
Any emotional song that on love, pain, innocent and life makes me cry. Same goes for movies😃.

    1. I love that song it’s really beautiful. I get emotional easily too 🤧

  18. Loved them❤

  19. Love the variety of genres. Music feeds the soul. It’s funny, I read the title of the post and chuckled…I made a Spotify Playlist with the name-Into The Feels about a year ago. Still one of my go to’s. With that connection I must follow your blog!

    1. Yeah music definitely does feed the soul. Lol that Spotify playlist sounds great when you want to listen to something more touching. Thanks for the follow and I’ll follow back!

  20. Excellent list, especially ‘Cats in the Cradle.’ I grew up with the original version and can remember singing it in school when I was a kid. I was surprised when Ugly Kid Joe covered it, as it’s so different from their normal sound, but they did a spectacular job with it. Personally, Tim Minchin’s song “Carry You” gets me every time. And I always tear up when I hear Linkin Park’s “One More Light,” because it’s just so poignant after Chester Bennington’s death.

    1. “One More Light” usually gets me too. I haven’t heard “Carry You” but I will definitely check it out. Thanks so much.

  21. “Seasons in The Sun” I cannot bear to listen to. Too painful.

    1. Yeah that one is definitely very emotional.

  22. Different lanes for thousands of feels ❤❤❤❤

    1. Absolutely 💕
