Why You Need Social Media To Grow Your Blog

Why You Need Social Media To Grow Your Blog

Why You Need Social Media To Grow Your Blog

I know that a lot of bloggers are not a huge fan of social media. In fact, I am not the biggest fan of social media myself. I know, that’s a weird thing for a social media manager to say. But you try spending hours on there and then we’ll talk. But, I can’t deny the power of social media. So today, we’ll be discussing why you need social media to grow your blog.

I know that a lot of bloggers only blog as an outlet or as a way to share their content with others or connect with others who have similar interests. However, I also know that a number of bloggers are also interested in growing their blog for multiple reasons. Some people just want a wider audience to share their content with, some people are hoping to make an income from blogging etc.

It does not really matter why you want to grow your blog but if you do want to grow, a great tool to use is social media. You don’t even have to be on social media all the time in order to get more traffic to your site. You just have to use it wisely.

Here are some reasons why I think using social media is important in growing your blog:

A New Audience

Why You Need Social Media To Grow Your Blog

Personally, I think the most important reason to use social media in order to grow your blog is because it allows you to tap into a whole new audience. With WordPress, your primary audience will be other bloggers, which is totally fine, but if you want to grow your blog beyond just other bloggers reading social media is the perfect way to do that.

With social media, you get to reach out to a lot of different people especially these days with things like Reels on Instagram which can really help you target a larger group of people since they really push those little videos. Making reels, TikTok’s or posts about your blog or perhaps content that you have recently published will help you get like minded people from those social media pages to go to your site to read more about the topic.

I have noticed quite a few views from social media when I post frequently whether it is a regular post or a video. Yes, it can be time consuming but your efforts are usually not in vain. However, one con I have noticed is that you have to be active and regular with your posting otherwise it is not as effective and this can get quite time consuming.

Extra Income

Social media is also a great way to increase your income if you plan on ever monetising your blog or making money off it by working with sponsors.

Firstly, most bloggers will only view your site on their Reader. However, when people visit your blog from social media they will view your actual blog/site. This means they will get more WordAds or whatever Ads you use. That will mean more of an income for you if your site is monetised.

Secondly, I have noticed that it is much easier to find sponsors on social media than it is just waiting for them to come to you. Your blog or site is one in a million and it is unlikely that a lot of people will find it and even if they do it is unlikely they will choose to work with you. I mean there are always some that will work with you after finding you. But when it comes to finding sponsors it’s important to be proactive and reach out to them yourself which you can do on social media. A lot of them even put up posts saying they are looking for bloggers to work with or content creators to work with. I have noticed this especially on Instagram.

Lastly, some sponsors want to work with bloggers but from what I have noticed, most of them prefer bloggers who also have social media platforms where they can promote them as well. Social media has become a big part of everything these days and that is definitely so for online work.

SEO

Social media may not have too much to do with SEO but there is a link between a sites Domain Authority and their social media presence. Sharing your content on social media platforms can help with your Authority. And as you may know, having a high Domain Authority can do wonders for your SEO and website in general.

Free Advertising

Social media is great for some very free advertising. Emphasis on the free because you know how it is with us creatives always being a little broke.

One great perk of social media platforms like Twitter is that you can share links to your content. And other people will re-share them if they enjoyed it. It’s a great way to target their audience as well as your own. And it’s a lot like getting free ads since they are sharing your content with their followers for free.

Social media is also a great way to promote yourself. Oftentimes, you need to be your biggest fan if you want to grow your blog. Talk about it, share about it and be vocal about it on all your platforms. A lot of times, it’s not that people don’t care about your content it may just be that they forgot to check your latest post. And social media posts may help them remember. Most people may not be active on WordPress daily but a lot of people are active on social media daily. So it can be great to get the word out about new posts.

Conclusion

I hope this was insightful. And that it helped you understand the importance of integrating your social media pages and your blog. If you enjoyed this post, don’t forget to follow me on my social media pages. Now that you know how important they are lol!

  1. Good stuff Pooja! As always… 🙂

    1. Thanks so much- hope it helps other bloggers out there!

  2. Interesting. With economic downturn, how is it affecting blog advertising? Also wonder with proliferation of blog posts and podcast is it more difficult to attract advertising?

    1. It’s definitely effected advertising because people are not making as much income which means their budget for things like ads whether on a blog or podcast is much lower or non-existent in some cases. Much harder now than it was before even for me personally.

      1. Yeah, kind of sucks. I gave up on trying to find advertising and just focus on doing my stuff. Some day it might catch on … or in the meantime, I have something to practice on. Thanks.

        1. I’m sure you’ll get some over time but yeah it’s best to just focus on content.

  3. I agree with all the points you have mentioned here. But, I also feel very bored with social media. I mean, if I wrote a blog, made images with it. I need a seperate sets of images to promote that particular blog on social media. I post rarely on IG, because I know how time consuming it can be. Also, I don’t feel like to post on social media. The similar reason is with podcast. I know these all are very important for the growth of my blog. Social media requires entirely different strategy. Less likes and interaction disappoints me.

    1. I agree and I really understand how you feel. Social media is so time consuming and the results often vary and can be random which is frustrating.

  4. I am not a huge fan of social media either. Similar to Devang, I got bored of most social media platforms including Instagram. I just don’t have the energy to post on multiple platforms. It is no surprise that I am most active on Twitter these days because I treat it like a diary and I jot down whatever comes to mind – much of it is random. I don’t take Twitter seriously, so it’s actually enjoyable for me. Also, I don’t get addicted to it like I did with Instagram. My other issue with social media is the constant need to compete for attention. It is so saturated to the point where I question what it takes for something to go viral, because I haven’t had ANY luck with gaining traction on any of my social media platforms. Wow, this was much longer than I had intended.

    1. Actually yes. It’s all about attention. I mean, we have written a blog, then we need to promote it on social media. To make thing viral we need to make dozens of such things. It’s all exhausting. I once tried to record my voice for the images to promote my blogs. But, it’s time and energy consuming.

    2. I definitely know what you mean. To go viral or even get a good amount of traction/growth on social media you have to be incredibly active which isn’t possible for everyone and can lead to your pages not growing. It’s all a lot of work- much more than people realise until they actually start posting.

    3. I almost-completely agree with this ⬆️ except I don’t particularly like twitter 😂

My IG has been lying dormant for at least a month and I deleted Facebook more than a year ago. Those platforms aren’t good for my mental health. I noticed a lot of the same patterns with using IG that I experienced when I was drinking. It’s a slippery slope for those of us with addictive personalities, and the little bit of traffic I got from those sources wasn’t worth it.

      1. Yeah I definitely see how they can turn into an issue. I usually don’t use socials unless it’s for work purposes which is still often but I try to stay away from anything that I think will mess with my mental health.

        1. I agree with you that social media can help blogs grow, though! I’m looking into other options like Pinterest and YouTube to expand my reach.

          1. Yeah it can help but it’s also definitely not for everyone. Pinterest is great. I used to get a lot of views from there when I was using it regularly!

  5. Great suggestions. Since you mentioned Instagram, I probably should revisit instagram. LOL. I haven’t go there for months.

    1. Haha yes you should probably check in. I need to as well- my social pages are so neglected recently.

  6. Totally agree with this, if you’re being smart with it, social media can bring you a lot of views!

    1. Absolutely, it really depends on how you use it!

  7. Great post pooja 😊

    1. Thank you ☺️

  8. Aahhhh great advice but what about them lazy bloggers who can’t bring themselves to actively market their blog on social media? 😭😭😭

    1. Urghhh I’m one of those right now 😞I keep promising myself I’ll post something but I’ve been MIA all week.

  9. Great points!Social media can be an important tool for many things, especially for those who work with it.

    1. Yes it can be wonderful for growth on other platforms like WordPress.

  10. Everything that you mentioned is important in enhancing and engaging viewers. Although social media has its pros and cons, it is a blessing in so many ways. Thank you for sharing your tips 🤗🥁

    1. I agree. Social media has many cons but if used wisely it can be an extremely helpful tool. Thank you for reading and commenting ☺️

  11. I agree with all the points Pooja. Though I don’t get much traffic from Instagram. I get traffic from Twitter and Facebook. Its interesting when we get whole new audience from social media. Though I don’t have upgraded WordPress plan, I love promoting my blog posts in social media.
    Happy Blogging Pooja 🙂

    1. Yes, different platforms are helpful for different bloggers. I personally get more traffic from Twitter and IG since I am most active there. Even without a paid plan it can be a great tool to grow your blog.
      Thanks so much ☺️

      1. You are welcome Pooja. You are true that every one won’t get same traffic from same social media platform. I took a 5 month break so I think I lag behind. I am planning to get a paid plan for my blog and i will definitely try to be consistent. Your posts are really helpful Pooja 🙂

        1. Yeah taking a break does tend to do that. Good luck with the paid plan and thanks again. I’m really happy to hear that they are helpful ☺️

          1. You are welcome Pooja :and am excited for an upgraded plan which I am planning to take in future. Your blog posts are really helpful and its a great achievement you have in blogging 🙂

            1. I’m really glad it’s helped. Thank you.

              1. You are welcome Pooja 🙂
                Keep going 🙂

  12. Really love this advice! The most I do for advertising is post links on Facebook in specific groups. I feel like you’re probably cringing over that 😅. I could definitely use advice on how to reach a wider audience

    1. Thanks so much! I will definitely be posting something soon on how to use social media to grow your blog so hang in there. And FaceBook groups are actually a good way to network 😄

      1. Thanks so much!!

        1. You’re very welcome!

  13. A great post and so true. Personally I find social media very confusing as everyone has their own strategies for success. And each platform has their own rules.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Yeah it can be confusing especially when you are not used to it. Thanks for reading and commenting.

      1. No problem

  14. Very interesting topic 🙂

    1. Thanks so much ☺️

      1. You are welcome!

  15. Nice post

    Thanks

    1. Thank you

  16. Most of the people who read my blog come over from my social media, both Facebook and Instagram xxx

    1. Oh wow, that’s great! You can get good traffic from socials if you use it well.

  17. Another timely post, Pooja!

I don’t use social media for my blog (yet). I’ve heard a good number of ‘big’ bloggers talk about Pinterest for blogging. Have you tried it out?

Also, how do you go about posting on Twitter? Any thing special to note?

I share the link to my posts to my Contact list and I get a relatively huge number of views from them, so I agree with you that social media really helps blogging.

    1. Thanks!

Yes, Pinterest is fantastic for bloggers. When I was using it regularly I got a good number of daily views from it.

I have just connected my Twitter and blog so it posts automatically but I add hashtags and things to increase reach.

I’m going to have a more detailed post on how to use social media to grow your blog soon so I think that may be more helpful. It’s hard to type everything out in detail on the comments but that will be much more detailed one how to use each platform to get views.

      1. I look forward to the post!!!

Thank you for the value you give, Pooja

        1. My pleasure!

  18. So sorry. I have more questions.

Do you make videos about your blog posts on your personal IG account or your blog IG account(if any)?

    1. I only have a blog IG account and on it I post multiple things but every once or twice a week I’ll post something to do with my blog. But only when it’s appropriate because it doesn’t work when you force it.

      1. Okay! Thank you, Pooja. I’ll see to it some time

        1. You’re very welcome!

  19. I genuinely suck at social media because I dislike it so much! This was a good read, thanks

    1. I totally get that- it’s really not for everyone. Thanks!

  20. When I started posting on Facebook, my tiny blog doubled in visits and views. It is still tiny, which fine, but now it is bigger tiny. 😉 thinking of eventually branching out to instagram.

    1. Oh wow, that’s great. Glad you’re getting more views from FB and yeah IG is great for views too ☺️

  21. Sure, social media has it own benefits for bloggers. It is quite useful. Interesting post.

    1. Yes, absolutely. Thank you 😄

    2. exactly when it use in the right way.

  22. Ugh I really don’t like SM but you do present compelling reasons.

I think setting small goals will help me feel less overwhelmed.

    1. Thanks and yeah smaller goals help a lot. I usually do that myself too because bigger goals sort of freak me out.

    2. i aslo don’t like social media but some reason i consider social media as a best place for everyone because of huge user engagement

  23. With facebook I can grow an audience, Instagram is a lot tougher. It doesn’t do wonders for my amount of views. Maybe I should try making a video. I use mostly the feed option. But I agree, social media can be a valuable asset to growing your blog. It was an insightful post. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks so much! Yes, reels get more traffic on Instagram compared to feed posts/images. I would recommend trying that.

      1. Alright, I’ll try that for a change.

      2. unfortunately instagram does’nt allows us to share link in the discription

        1. Yes but luckily you can share it in the description box/bio.

          1. in the discription we can but it is not clickable

            1. It’s clickable in the little area under your username. There’s a specific section for website links.

              1. i mean in post descriptions

                1. Yeah in post descriptions you can’t.

    2. yes you must try to use social media for blogging because google know where the traffic comes from and google count as a plus signal

  24. Many Thanks For This Amazing Post. Social Media Is such a powerful weapon to have in your Armoury Like you mentioned it’s a great way to Advertise yourself for free as long as you can put in the hard yards but is totally worth it

    1. Thank you and yes I absolutely agree. It’s great for putting your content out there and sharing it with more people.

    2. yes you got it its really helps

  27. Hi 👋 how are you doing? It’s been difficult to read blogs since school is out and my 7 year old son is with me 24/7. I do get me time in the morning but too much to do and not enough time to catch up on blog reading. I love your posts. I just wish I had more time to read them on time. Anyway, great post. 👍 as for me, I do share my blog link on Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn but I barely get traffic from there. Most of my traffic comes from WordPress reader and from pinterest and Google search.

    1. I’m good and how have you been?

Yes, I’m sure you’re much busier now with your son at home. Blogging can be time consuming and it’s hard to always find time to read other blogs.

Thank you. How active are you on these social platforms because usually you need to be quite active to get traffic from them. That may be why you aren’t getting much traffic from there.

      1. I’m good, thanks. Well I check my social media everyday. I don’t post everyday but I do post weekly. I’m not consistent though. Sometimes once a week. Sometimes several posts a day. Sometimes everyday. I work on social media in bursts.

        1. Oh okay I see.

    2. you can try to get traffic from facbook as well just share your blog post image and add the link in the very first comment so facebook will not limit your reach

      1. Thanks! I’ll try that

        1. you are most welcome if you need any help related to facebook and instagram please don’t hesitate to ask me
