Introduction
I always tell people blogging is a lot more difficult then people realise it is. In fact, it can become really time consuming and it can be a struggle to come up with ideas for new posts that your audience can enjoy. Other than that, WordPress seems to go out of its way to make this platform much less user friendly than necessary.
If you are a new blogger, you may have a difficult time figuring out your blog. You may be confused about your niche and what direction to take your blog in, how to grow your blog and get more traffic and following or you may simply be confused about how to create blogs that are SEO friendly that use all the features WordPress offers us.
Although this post is directed more towards newer bloggers I hope some of you that have been blogging for a while now also find this information helpful. Some of it may seem a bit obvious but try to think back to when you were a blogging newbie and knew absolutely nothing about WordPress and blogging.
Here are some tips for new bloggers that I think could be very useful:
Be Passionate
My first piece of advice would be this- be passionate about the content you are creating. I’m not going to lie, there are some topics that are much more popular than others. If your niche is very specific, you may find yourself not attracting a lot of traffic and following and may be tempted to switch to a more popular niche.
However, I would like to remind everyone that WordPress is more about creating quality content other people can enjoy along with you rather than a popularity contest. Most people can tell whether or not you are passionate in your blog posts (don’t ask me how because I have no idea) and a most people on this platform would prefer to follow someone who creates content they love.
It’s also important to create content you love because you may not see much growth on your site at first but being really excited to post anyway will help you stick with blogging. If you are writing about things that you don’t care about you are much more likely to give up on blogging.
Patience Is A Virtue
Like with all things, it’s quite unlikely you will takeoff overnight and become the most popular person on the internet (unless you are willing to sell your soul to Kris Jenner). Most people give up on blogging in a couple of days or weeks because they are not seeing the results they expected to see.
However, blogging is a longterm process. It takes a while to grow your blog. And things like SEO changes can take unto months for Search Engines to pick up on.
My biggest advice to new bloggers would be to stay optimistic and have patience. Your blog will grow, you just need to give it some time. I didn’t accumulate my following overnight. It took years for me to get here. It’s more of a journey than you think. Try to enjoy putting out content and meeting new people. Focus on your site and not on growing it.

Research, Research And More Research
I wish someone had told me this when I first started blogging. There is more you don’t know about blogging than what you know. If you are a new blogger or even an older one, I would highly recommend doing some a lot of research.
Research about what features WordPress offers and how best to utilise them. If you are looking to grow your site do some more research into how to get more traffic or how to get more followers. It’s all about research.

SEO
SEO is something we all try our best to avoid but if you are hoping to grow your site and get more traffic from Search Engines, it’s a necessary evil. If you are a new blogger, I would highly recommend looking into SEO and how to make your posts and overall site more SEO friendly.
I made the mistake of not doing that and I am still updating old posts to this day to make them more SEO friendly. Don’t repeat my mistakes because it’s much easier to just make your posts more SEO friendly now rather than go back in two years and try to make like a thousand old posts SEO friendly.
This is also where the research part comes in. Research SEO as much as possible so you can get a hang of it first and don’t end up accidentally making your posts SEO unfriendly by mistake.

Stay Safe
Although WordPress is one of the safest and friendliest platforms I have encountered, I would still encourage everyone to be as careful as possible. As great as WordPress is, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies.
If someone seems like they are too good to be true be very cautious because they may just be. If someone tries to sell you something or recruit you for something (like an MLM), do your own research and see if they are actually legit or just a scammer trying to take advantage of you. As for MLM’s- if someone tries to make you join one, RUN. MLM’s are pretty much legal pyramid schemes.
You will also come across people who behave in an inappropriate way. If someone makes you uncomfortable don’t be shy about using that block button. Trust me, it’s for the best.
Be Active
My last piece of advice is to be as active as you can be. WordPress has so many amazing blogs to offer and there are such a huge amount of awesome people on this platform to interact with. Believe me when I say, you will never find a community like this one on any other platform so enjoy it. Take advantage of being a part of this awesome community!
And the plus side is that the more active you are the more your blog will grow. You will help others grow and they will return the favour. It’s like a win-win and on the way you will make some awesome blogging buddies like I have!
Remember to enjoy yourself and enjoy what you do. That should be your primary goal when creating content!
