The Best Blogging Advice For New Bloggers In 2022

how to write an about me page | Ways To Beat Writers Block

Introduction

I always tell people blogging is a lot more difficult then people realise it is. In fact, it can become really time consuming and it can be a struggle to come up with ideas for new posts that your audience can enjoy. Other than that, WordPress seems to go out of its way to make this platform much less user friendly than necessary.

If you are a new blogger, you may have a difficult time figuring out your blog. You may be confused about your niche and what direction to take your blog in, how to grow your blog and get more traffic and following or you may simply be confused about how to create blogs that are SEO friendly that use all the features WordPress offers us.

Although this post is directed more towards newer bloggers I hope some of you that have been blogging for a while now also find this information helpful. Some of it may seem a bit obvious but try to think back to when you were a blogging newbie and knew absolutely nothing about WordPress and blogging.

Here are some tips for new bloggers that I think could be very useful:

Be Passionate

Typing Working GIF

My first piece of advice would be this- be passionate about the content you are creating. I’m not going to lie, there are some topics that are much more popular than others. If your niche is very specific, you may find yourself not attracting a lot of traffic and following and may be tempted to switch to a more popular niche.

However, I would like to remind everyone that WordPress is more about creating quality content other people can enjoy along with you rather than a popularity contest. Most people can tell whether or not you are passionate in your blog posts (don’t ask me how because I have no idea) and a most people on this platform would prefer to follow someone who creates content they love.

It’s also important to create content you love because you may not see much growth on your site at first but being really excited to post anyway will help you stick with blogging. If you are writing about things that you don’t care about you are much more likely to give up on blogging.

Patience Is A Virtue

Like with all things, it’s quite unlikely you will takeoff overnight and become the most popular person on the internet (unless you are willing to sell your soul to Kris Jenner). Most people give up on blogging in a couple of days or weeks because they are not seeing the results they expected to see.

However, blogging is a longterm process. It takes a while to grow your blog. And things like SEO changes can take unto months for Search Engines to pick up on.

My biggest advice to new bloggers would be to stay optimistic and have patience. Your blog will grow, you just need to give it some time. I didn’t accumulate my following overnight. It took years for me to get here. It’s more of a journey than you think. Try to enjoy putting out content and meeting new people. Focus on your site and not on growing it.

Research, Research And More Research

Computer Working GIF

I wish someone had told me this when I first started blogging. There is more you don’t know about blogging than what you know. If you are a new blogger or even an older one, I would highly recommend doing some a lot of research.

Research about what features WordPress offers and how best to utilise them. If you are looking to grow your site do some more research into how to get more traffic or how to get more followers. It’s all about research.

SEO

SEO is something we all try our best to avoid but if you are hoping to grow your site and get more traffic from Search Engines, it’s a necessary evil. If you are a new blogger, I would highly recommend looking into SEO and how to make your posts and overall site more SEO friendly.

I made the mistake of not doing that and I am still updating old posts to this day to make them more SEO friendly. Don’t repeat my mistakes because it’s much easier to just make your posts more SEO friendly now rather than go back in two years and try to make like a thousand old posts SEO friendly.

This is also where the research part comes in. Research SEO as much as possible so you can get a hang of it first and don’t end up accidentally making your posts SEO unfriendly by mistake.

Stay Safe

GIF by Pablo

Although WordPress is one of the safest and friendliest platforms I have encountered, I would still encourage everyone to be as careful as possible. As great as WordPress is, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies.

If someone seems like they are too good to be true be very cautious because they may just be. If someone tries to sell you something or recruit you for something (like an MLM), do your own research and see if they are actually legit or just a scammer trying to take advantage of you. As for MLM’s- if someone tries to make you join one, RUN. MLM’s are pretty much legal pyramid schemes.

You will also come across people who behave in an inappropriate way. If someone makes you uncomfortable don’t be shy about using that block button. Trust me, it’s for the best.

Be Active

My last piece of advice is to be as active as you can be. WordPress has so many amazing blogs to offer and there are such a huge amount of awesome people on this platform to interact with. Believe me when I say, you will never find a community like this one on any other platform so enjoy it. Take advantage of being a part of this awesome community!

And the plus side is that the more active you are the more your blog will grow. You will help others grow and they will return the favour. It’s like a win-win and on the way you will make some awesome blogging buddies like I have!

Remember to enjoy yourself and enjoy what you do. That should be your primary goal when creating content!

Conclusion

I really hope everyone found something helpful here whether you’re a new blogger or an older blogger. What advice would you give to new bloggers? What do you wish you had known when you first started blogging? Let me know in the comments below because I always love hearing from you guys!

  1. You are so right, Pooja, blogging is very time-consuming! I am retired so I have the time which is nice.

    1. Thanks and yeah it absolutely is. It’s great for people that have more free time but it can be quite difficult for those that don’t!

      1. Absolutely. I have done a redesign on my blog over the last two days, it’s much simpler and clean looking. New fonts and the background is now pure #FFFFFF !😂

        1. That’s awesome, I always prefer it when blogs are user friendly!

  2. I’m not exactly “new” to blogging. My very first blog that I started was informative about a stomach disease that I have. While I didn’t have as many followers over there as I do on my farm blog, I did have something like 160k on views. I lost interest because while I enjoyed helping people, I got burned out really fast. My farm blog however… now that gets me excited! How right you are that it’s what we’re passionate about that keeps us going. I’m nothing but full of passion for nature, for my animals, for my family, and for my farm. I love sharing it with others. I’ve also come to learn that how many “likes” or comments I get isn’t as important to me as sharing the stories about this crazy endeavor. Would I like to see my blog grow? Absolutely. I’d also really like to make lasting connections though and have something for my son to read long after I’m gone. ❤️

    1. I see, that’s so interesting. I think when we really feel strongly about a certain topic we tend to have a lot more to say about it. Like you said, the things you post about here are things you love and that’s why it’s great for you. It’s a great way for your son to learn more about you too in the future.

  3. I’m with you on the non user friendly thing with WordPress. Took me nearly a week to do various what I thought should be quick easy changes and had to use work around for some things in the end. Yikes.

    1. Wow that sucks but yeah they make it really hard for us to get anything done. It’s really annoying.

  4. love this Pooja!!!
soooo awesome with great tips always.
    👏👏👏
This is sadly true everywhere now..

“As great as WordPress is, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies.

but most are amazing and great!!💖💖💖🙏🙏

    1. Thank you so much!!

Yeah absolutely, most are so wonderful but there are always a couple you need to look out for and be careful around! 💕

  5. Thanks for the article. I am not really in a position to give advice, but I must say that Yoast and Keysearch really changed things for me with SEO. And I would also suggest going to conferences. I went to a travel blogging conference (back when I was writing a travel blog) and I also went to Wordcamp NYC one year, which I thought was really useful. The speakers went out of their way to help me with my then blog after the sessions. Thanks again.

    1. Yeah I’ve heard a lot of good things about Toast and Keysearch, it can make SEO a lot easier for you.
I’ve never been to a blogging conference but I’m glad the ones you attended were helpful. That’s so nice of them.

  6. I agree with everything you have mentioned. There’s no denying that it’s very important to be passionate, be patient and be active. Giving what people wants is another important thing.
One more thing, that I’ve learnt from your blog is “blogging is 2 way street”.
I do not know if it happens at other places. But, for blogging you have to give in order to receive.
I’ve seen it and felt it.
Like, I’m following certain sites and show my genuine interest in their content. They automatically read and care about my content in return.
I mean, obviously we are doing it so that people can read it, right? Then if someone cares about our content. We need to do that same for theirs.
I don’t have much followers, but I have few loyal ones, who will care to respond to my blog.
Then, once in a week, I visit to new sites and do that same for them. Although, some people understand that message, some don’t.
    .
Best wishes pooja. Keep sharing such amazing content.

    1. Thanks so much and yes absolutely. Blogging is a give and take. You can’t expect to get people on your blog without showing interest on theirs.

  7. It’s true blogging is all about passion and patience. I learned that over the years. The only thing with which I struggle is getting my blog SEO friendly. I tried Yoast but it gave me an error message.

    1. Yeah some plugins do that but I would highly recommend trying Yoast again because it’s very helpful with SEO.

  8. Great advice… Will surely help a naive and inept blogger like me 😜

    1. Haha that’s what these posts are for 😂

      1. 😅 Hope u vl help to become a good blogger like U… Ma’am !!

        1. Hope the posts help with that 😃

          1. May be… Apart from posts , personal guidance is also required 😄

            1. Sure for the right price 😂

              1. Hmm… Price k bagair nahi chalega …Me poor 😒😜

                1. Lol me too, I need the money 😂

                  1. Then? Free deal done? 😜

                    1. Lol never 😜

                    2. Oh no… 😅

    1. Thanks 😊

  9. Amazing advice for all the new bloggers like me.. All the points you mentioned are so true.. This post is very helpful for me and now I know what are the things I should keep in my mind whenever I’m posting something…
Also, I don’t know anything about SEO. Maybe this is for those who have purchased the hosting ?

    1. Thanks so much.

No, SEO is for everyone. It simple means Search Engine Optimisation which helps you get more Search Engine traffic. I go into more detail on my “SEO” posts that I’ve linked above. Feel free to check them out.

      1. Okk thanku very much for this knowledge.. I’ll definitely check your SEO post.. So that I’ll able to understand more about it..

        1. Good luck, it’s a bit complicated but great for traffic.

  10. […] The Best Blogging Advice For New Bloggers In 2022 […]

  11. As always Pooja your advice is so helpful, and definitely I could still do with doing some more research and, probably, better at SEO too. I’ll admit, sometimes I can be a tiny bit lazy because I’m in a niche which is generally rarely covered and hugely popular (especially after Fifty Shades Of Grey), so just ‘OK’ on Yoast SEO is probably still going to do quite well. Currently I’m editing images on a lot of old posts, then I might go back through and make SEO even better. It’s a learned lesson for sure!

Regarding your point about being active, I think we can both agree that there is a difference between commenting and a values comment, oh, and something else, which I’ll get onto in just a moment. When commenting on a blog, actually engage and contribute to the discussion, not just “good post” or whatever. The more you give, the more friendly and readable you are, the more people will want to click your avatar and read you.

The other thing I mentioned above? If someone comments on your post, reply to it! Thank them and have a brief conversation. I commented on a blog yesterday and the owner just liked the comment. If you want people to come back, make them come back!

Now I sound like.. yeah, anyway 😂

    1. Yeah it’s much easier to get traffic in niches that aren’t too saturated. You tend to get a lot of traffic from Search Engines since there isn’t too much information on it. And like you said, books/movies like 50 Shades has made BDSM and things related to it more popular.

Yes, absolutely. And most bloggers can tell when you’re faking a comment without reading the post. Whenever I get “great post” or something like that I just know they haven’t really read the post.

So true, sometimes I comment and they don’t even like the comment (not just mine anyones comment on their site) forget replying and that really discourages people from coming back.

      1. Absolutely, there’s a lot of focus on kinky sex, but not nearly so much focus on the whats and whys, or on the trust and communication that make these relationships so awesome. People like me sort of give a “before you jump into the good bits…” that a lot of sex experts don’t really do. Honestly 40 Shades was how I got into doing what I do. I knew a lot of stuff from years of prexisting experience and I knew there would be people my age looking for someone to turn to, call it my civic duty if you will lol.

Yeah exactly. I used to have one like that and if I replied he would tell me to check out his blog. I blocked him in the end because I realised he cared more about his own blog than he did about actually connecting with me. It’s funny how the former results in success with the latter in a way! Lol

See to me that’s just rude and kinda egotistical. Even if you don’t agree with with comment or don’t really understand it, like it anyway, it’s polite and makes people feel appreciated. Mind you another I commented on replied with simply “Thank you”. I got the feeling I wasn’t welcomed and so I haven’t returned. How you interact with others really does make or rather things.

        1. Yeah I’m sure that sort of information is helpful to a lot of people especially those that are trying new things for the first time. There’s a lot of stuff you need to know before you try anything kinky.

I usually either ignore those comments or give a curt reply because I feel like it’s rude to ignore my post and expect me to care about yours.

I’ve had that experience too. I generally like to visit blogs where I can have a conversation with the person rather than just a short reply.

          1. I’d like to hope so. Oh absolutely, it terrifies me when I see films and TV programmes advertise it like you just pick up a whip and beat your partner with it. It just makes me want to bury my head in my hands and cry lol.

Haha you’ll have to teach me. I’m a lovely person, i’m never curt to anyone, honest 😉

Absolutely. I’ve only found that with yourself and one other blogger so far, which is unfortunate, but thankyou for talking to me 😊

            1. I know, people have actually gotten hurt because of that. It’s dangerous to try random things without proper understanding.

Happy to talk, it’s fun for me too. I like the social aspect of WP as much as creating content.

              1. Incredibly. I personally know someone who took a bullwhip to the face because the woman was flicking it around at a club with absolutely zero regard for safety. She could have cost him an eye!

Aww well I’m always about, minus timezones and stuff lol

                1. Wow that’s awful. I can’t believe people are so reckless sometimes.

                  1. Unfortunately, it’s because they care about their status and to hell with anyone else. They happen in all walks of life, sadly.

                    1. Yeah I guess so. How sad.

                    2. Unfortunately, but at least you can take faith in being confident in who you are 🙂

                    3. Yeah, of course.

  12. Wise advice, Pooja. I would add one point, although it sort of links in with your advice to “be passionate”. My take on it is that new bloggers in particular should be clear about why they are writing their blog and who they are writing it for. In my own blog I state “The value of this blog is largely selfish, in that it is a vehicle that will drive me to continue thinking – and writing – at a time in my life when most things seem like too much trouble. Additionally, it offer a welcome opportunity to share comments and ideas with fellow bloggers who may share my outlook on life. Other than that, [my blog] is entirely pointless. Which, I suppose, is the point.”

Not everyone would agree with my stance, which is absolutely fine, but from my perspective accumulating a huge number of followers is not a worthwhile goal. Rather, I want to write well and share constructive comments with a small band of followers who appreciate what I write. Achieving this makes me feel good about myself. The moment blogging ceases to make me feel good about myself I shall stop, and move on to something more rewarding!

    1. You’re absolutely right. It helps a lot if you set clear goals and know what you want to blog about and who your main audience is. In your case, you are your priority and that’s totally great. Now you can enjoy the process and just have fun with the content.

I think a lot of people would agree with you. It’s great growing your blog but it feels better when you actually get to communicate with likeminded people and socialise.

  13. Thanks for sharing! Blogging certainly is time consuming sometimes, but it is also fun, and I’ve found cool people in the community. You definitely have to be passionate; I found that writing about subjects I enjoy helps instead of trying to pick a specific niche and tailor everything to that. I’m not sure if that’s the best way to go about it, but I have fun. I could probably look at SEO more too.

    1. My pleasure! Yeah blogging can end up taking a big chunk of your free time but like you said it’s also rewarding. I feel that way too and that’s why I ended not picking just one niche. I like having the freedom of writing about whatever I want to in that moment.
SEO is great for traffic, I would definitely recommend looking into it.

  14. Definitely. The research part sounds like work, and I’m not one who likes to be stressed. Being active is super important. Thanks 🥰

    1. Yes, the research can be very time consuming. Being active is a great way to grow your blog and socialise. Thank you so much 🥰

  15. I totally concur.
    Great advice 👍

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  16. “And the plus side is that the more active you are the more your blog will grow. You will help others grow and they will return the favour…”

This is so true. I notice the difference when I’m not as active versus the return I get after leaving comments, and venturing out to other blogs of different interests/niches. It makes a huge difference.

Great info Pooja, thanks for sharing! 💞

    1. It absolutely does make a huge difference, I see it myself too.

      Thanks so much!

      1. You’re welcome! 🥰

  17. I made the same SEO mistakes as well, but I still haven’t got around to updating old posts lol

    1. Lol you still have lots of time to do that!

  18. I forgot WP has a block button. I haven’t had to use it in a long time. I’ve blocked emails that seem spammy like AI. You know the ones that make no sense.

    1. I’ve had to use the block button a couple of times and yes I absolutely know those emails.

  19. Actually MLM is very active in the community here and one has to avoid them in any social gathering. They have faded in recent years, but they were very strong ten years ago.

I really want to do research, research and research, but I never do it. I am just procrastinating.

    1. Yeah a lot of MLM’s specifically target immigrant communities especially immigrant women.

Research can sometimes be the worst part since it can be so boring lol but its worth it for sure.

  21. Thanks for the advice, Pooja. Though I really need to look into SEO more

    1. Happy to share it. SEO can be difficult or complicated at first but it’s very worth it since it can drastically improve stats.

  22. This is great pooja.. just awesome tips, thanks for the article

    1. Thank you so much

      1. You r welcome 😊

  23. Thank you for this I am new to this as you will be able to see.

    1. Happy to help and welcome to the blogging world.

      1. Happy to be here

  24. Thank you so much for this post, it’s going to help me so much since I’m new to blogging!

    1. Glad you found it helpful!

  25. You’re right about the time problem because it is a bit hard for people without time to manage it since you have to be active for the most part. I’ve also sorta struggled to get the hang of WordPress in the beginning. Then there’s also the SEO and popularity competition and all and that gets me confused all the time. But as you mentioned, passion is the only thing that keeps me going (considering how I hardly get any views at all). I guess I shall remain patient too.
    Nice post.

    1. Time management can be difficult and so can getting the hang of everything but it’s definitely worth sticking with. Thanks and good luck.

      1. Yeah I do find time management kinda hard cuz I am a student but you are right, it is worth it. Hopefully I shall stick with it long enough. Thank you.

        1. Yeah I was a student till last year too so I definitely understand the struggle. I really hope you do stick with it.

          1. Thanks for the encouragement : )

            1. You’re very welcome.

  26. Thank you for sharing, this may have been just the nudge I needed to stop avoiding SEO.

    1. SEO is definitely important especially if you’re hoping to grow your blog.

  27. Thank you for your invaluable advice, Pooja!!

    1. Happy to share it!

  28. I just started my first blog here this past weekend and I’m just now getting the template going, so absolutely it will take a while. Also, I’m with you on MLMs as that is one of my topics on my new blog.

  29. Thank you for your advice, Pooja. I am only new to the blogging world, and it has been an eye opener. For sure it is not as simple as just writing and posting. To be honest SEO seems so confusing but following your advice I am off to research

    1. Welcome to the blogging world and yes it can be difficult but at the same time don’t forget to have fun.
