Healthy Habits For A Healthy Life

Healthy Habits For A Healthy Life

Disclaimer: “Healthy Habits For A Healthy Life” is a guest post. I have not created this post nor do I own it. The thoughts and opinions expressed on this article are that of the writer. Thanks for reading!

Today we will talk about healthy habits that can give you healthy life. You might have read and heard about it and many of you are actually living a healthy lifestyle. Honestly, a healthy lifestyle is not as hard, as some people think. It can be achieved with certain changes and habits.

So this blog is about healthy habits, that are very easy to follow and you can start them just after reading this blog. Let’s begin with the first habit.

EAT BREAKFAST EVERY MORNING

I know many of you take breakfast, but there are some people who skip it. Breakfast is your first meal of the day. You should never ignore it. It should be something nutritious, something energy-giving.

Breakfast means breaking the fast. Ever wonder why lunch is not called lunchfast? Because you are not supposed to stay hungry till lunch. Your breakfast should contain protein, fruits, grains and milk.

DRINK WATER AND EAT DAIRY (OR VEGAN ALTERNATIVE)

I know you are drinking water regularly. But are you drinking sufficient water? Well, ideally you should drink 5-6 litres of water. Although this figure is different according to different standards. Water is actually a good healer. Drinking that much water can flush out the toxins from your body. It keeps skin, liver, and kidneys healthy.

Dairy is also important as well. Milk ensures good bone health, it’s a great source of protein and is known to be beneficial for all ages. Curd, ghee, butter, and paneer (cottage cheese) have benefits of their own.

If you are vegan then it’s totally fine. There are so many healthy alternatives like coconut milk, soya milk, almond milk etc.

SNACK THE HEALTHY WAY

Healthy food can solve a lot of your problems. If you like to eat junk food then let me tell you, it’s not helping you in any manner. A healthy diet cannot just keep you healthy, but also protect your body from any damage. Whatever you eat, it reflects on your body.

I cannot include what a healthy diet looks like but it should be balanced. Your diet should contain at least 4 colours. More colours means more benefits. A healthy diet can keep your body healthy from inside and out.

Swap pizza, and burgers with some home-cooked meal. Add seasonal fruits to your meal. You should at least eat 3 varieties of fruits a day. Consume juice and soups instead of soda and alcohol.

EXERCISE FOR BETTER HEALTH

I have stressed enough how vital regular exercising is. A healthy diet is important, but we can’t ignore daily exercise. Regular exercising has numerous benefits like:

  • Keeps your heart, and lungs healthy.
  • Maintains healthy bones, muscles, and joints.
  • Helps control weight (controlled weight has advantages of its own).
  • Promotes psychological well-being (reduces stress and depression).
  • Reduces the risk of developing high blood pressure and diabetes.
  • Reduces the risk of premature death.

If you are not working out daily, now is the time. It could be anything; Running, Walking, swimming, Yoga. Just adopt this healthy habit and I guarantee you healthy changes within a week.

PRACTICE GOOD ORAL HYGIENE.

If you maintain good oral hygiene, you can add 6.4 years to your life. You may think that it’s a bluff. But, think to yourself, your mouth is the gateway to your stomach. Whatever you are putting in your belly goes through your mouth.

All you need to do is brush 2 times a day. Rinse your mouth with water after eating anything. And, massage your teeth at night. This habit will make your teeth strong and healthy.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP

Now, it’s totally up to you if you take this as a habit or routine. But, you definitely need at least 8 hours of sleep. Proper sleep heals the body and mind. It acts as a refresher and it’s something that you should not avoid at any cost.

People who don’t get adequate slumber are more likely at risk to develop psychiatric problems than those who sleep adequately. Sleep deprivation can negatively affect memory, learning and logical reasoning. To avoid all this kindly sleep properly and sleep on time.

Kids needs more sleep than adults. Kids needs at least 10 hours of sleep. While for adults (below 60) 7 hours of sleep is sufficient. 60+ needs 7-9 hours of sleep.

PICK UP SOME HOBBY

Since they are relaxing activities, hobbies are usually enjoyable. Some people find joy in art, music, bird watching, gardening or collecting something. The main idea of a hobby is that you are doing something for your own happiness. It’s something you find peace with and it’s something you should invest your time in.

If I talk about myself, then I love blogging. I started last year and I didn’t know I will love it this much. I love the process of searching and creating something. The main idea of a hobby is giving time to yourself. Me-time is very important and you should definitely do something that you love. In the comments let me know what you enjoy doing and how much time do you give to it?

TAKE A DAILY WALK.

I have already included how important a daily workout is. For some reason, if you are missing your workout, then at least walk. Walking for at least 30 minutes has advantages of its own.

I totally understand that you maybe are very busy with your life and it’s hard to find time to workout regularly. You can do one thing instead- “walk”. Find opportunities to walk. If you could avoid vehicles to nearby places, then walk. Walk in the garden/park in the morning and feel the difference in your physical and emotional wellbeing.

I know these things are not new to you, so kindly take this blog as a reminder. If you are doing these already then share your thoughts in the comment section. Or just let me know what difficulty you are facing in taking up these habits.

Also, thanks to Pooja G for this wonderful opportunity by allowing me to share this blog with
you. I will now hand over her blogs back to her.

Until next time, stay healthy and keep smiling.

  1. Yes, I really need to have more healthy habit. Recently, due to the summer heat, I haven’t exercised as much, haven’t drunk as much water, haven’t slept very well. LOL. This week is not my week I guess. Sometimes this happens.

    1. Due to summer heat, you need more liquid. Look out for options that are easily available and healthy as well. Drink atleast 5-6 litres of water daily. If you haven’t exercised much recently, then start with daily walk. 🙂

    2. I’m always somewhat dehydrated because I never drink enough water lol. It’s something I have to work on too.

      1. How about for a week you associate drinking water with something? Like I know you are busy and it’s very hard to remember drinking water while we are tight on schedule and so many things to do. You can either put reminders, but that would be annoying. Or, you can just remember drinking water with something. Like everytime you read a latest blog, you have a sip of water. Or everytime you open certain app, you drink water. This will train your brain and you will remember it. 🙂

        1. That’s a great idea, maybe I’ll drink some water every time I finish something and take a break.

      2. Drinking enough water Is not advisable dear try to get use to it

    3. Drinking water is essential when it comes to how you operate throughout the day.

    4. One should do this often

  2. Thanks for giving me this opportunity Pooja to share my thoughts through this blog.
    .
I believe these healthy habits are very easy to follow. I won’t be saying anyone to leave any of their favourite activities. Just add these habits for a healthy lifestyle.

        1. Hi sir, thanks for reading.
I know how you stay healthy. That’s very helpful. 🙌🏻

          1. This is my favorite subject.

      2. I really listen to my body and it’s messages. I don’t have too many rules but exercise daily, keep a clear mind, treat myself well and eat as clean as possible. 💖 You sound like you are doing great!

        1. You are doing a good job for you!! That’s healthy living. 🙂

  4. Going for walks is a great way to recharge.

    1. I definitely agree with that. Especially if that walk is among the nature. Free from distractions 😁

  5. These are useful habits. I will try to engage in a number of them – you’ve convinced me. Also, I agree with the sleep thing. The importance of sleep cannot be overemphasized

    1. Hey thanks a ton. Sleep is very important. It’s a natural healer. Your subconscious mind works while sleeping and it does magic for you. Always sleep with a positive note and you will see good results. Also, how much sleep does you have??

      1. A constructive post 👍🙂

        1. Thanks, what are some healthy habits that you follow? 😀

      2. About nine hours. And my system won’t let me get anything less, really

        1. 9 hours is sufficient. Great!!

  6. Well.. 😃 though i m not always perfect at following all the good habits you mentioned, but i always try.. i prefer to do walk everyday, have some good hobby; like reading/writing, have enough sleep and eat something better and ofcourse oral hygiene is must.. not only oral but hygiene is must, in over all daily life. I hope that i have answerd your question, Devang 🙂

    1. Kya baat hai… 🙂

    2. I really think that’s sufficient. You are keeping your mental health and physical healthy. Just keep changing to break the monotony. 🙂

      1. Sure, thank you🙂

  7. Great informative post 🙂

  8. This is a wake call for me! And I will answer it. Thank you Devang and Pooja for sharing this.

    1. No offense. But, I would like to know a little about your daily routine. If you are comfortable with sharing it. 😀

    2. Happy to share it, thanks for stopping by!

  9. Thanks for the reminder. I need to add more fruit to my diet and walk more when I can’t workout.

    1. Some fruits, green veggies, juices, soups. Some dry/dried fruits 😀

  10. Does anyone with anxiety also experience high blood pressure? When I was pregnant in 2003 I had pre-eclampsia which is high blood pressure associated with being pregnant. After my daughter’s birth, I continued to have high blood pressure. It has been 18 years since and I am still on high blood pressure medicine along with my psyche meds. I recently have had to go up on that blood pressure medicine – metoprolol.

    1. I don’t know much about blood pressure but I maybe someone in the comments can talk to you about that.

  11. I love absolutely all of these! Especially the sleep thing. Sleep is soooo important.

    1. Yeah right!! I mean, sleep makes us feel better. It’s like our body gets charged after a good sleep. Our subconscious mind does wonders while we are sleeping.

  13. Great post! I could get more sleep; I think I get about 6-7 hours. I try to drink lots of water (and avoid soda – yuck), take walks, go swimming, etc.

This fact “If you maintain good oral hygiene, you can add 6.4 years to your life” stood out to me. Dentists should have that as a banner in every office, haha. I believe it though; the mouth is no joke. Hobbies are super important too to have something of your own to dive into when the world gets too heavy, and/or keep the mind busy.

Thanks for sharing Devang and Pooja! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for reading Kirsten. I really appreciate your lovely comment.
Soda/cola is not only harmful to the health but also to the teeth. There was an experiment conducted in my school (many moons ago), in that the dip a teeth set in cola for 24 hours. And after that those teeth dissolved completely. You can understand how harmful these cola are. Walks and swimming is such a amazing form of exercise. Hobbies are important as well. I think it keeps us sane. We all need that one thing that can make us happy. Hobbies are must. 🙇🏻‍♂️

      1. Wow, the teeth dissolved? That’s like a horror movie! Yikes. 🤣

    2. Happy to share the post!

Lol my best friend is in school to be a dentist and I’m pretty sure she was the one who told me that at one point and now I take oral hygiene wayyyy more seriously 😂

      1. For real! 🤣

  14. Thanks for sharing this great guest post! I actually became good at oral hygiene from needing braces twice so there you go

    1. Happy to share it and ouch that doesn’t sound fun so I get why you’re careful with your teeth now!

      1. Yeah, plus I have problems with gum recession but that has nothing to do with my hygiene habits. I have had three gum grafts and I’m about to have my second frenectomy

        1. Take care!!
          Wishing you the best.

        2. Oh wow, I had no idea about that. Teeth and gum issues are so awful.

          1. Tell me about it! But I have a great periodontist after a false start with a bad periodontist

            1. Oh that’s good. Having a good doctor makes all the difference.

  15. Hey..this is Candy
An interesting post…and totally agree with the sleep thing as that’s the only healthy habit that I follow.. 😄😅 and also I do go for some evening walks whenever I get time. Great post👍🏻

    1. Eat healthy-sleep-study-repeat.
      Do that for now.
Give your body proper rest. Take breaks. Do activities that you really love.

      1. Thanks for the lovely advice, will surely follow this😊

  16. I’m with ya on all of this especially sleep!

    1. Glad to hear that!

    2. That’s great!!
I’ve read your blogs and I can say, you are doing fantabulous job.

      1. Oh wow, thank you so much for saying that!

  17. OMG! I did not know I was in such a bad way. You got me right from the start I don’t normally eat breakfast and can’t drink the amount of water that I should, but 8 sodas go down like a fat kid on a seesaw:) I have lost about thirty pounds lately however the way I did it is a problem in itself. You see nicotine raises your metabolism 7 to 15 percent and curves your appetite.

    1. Time for you for some healthy changes then. Best wishes

  18. Great tips! I definitely need to go on more walks just for the sake of it (and not to go from point A to point B)!

    1. That would be great actually!
For a change keep a track on how much do you walk. See if you are actually increasing number of steps. 😁

    2. Glad you enjoyed it!

  19. 🙋🏻‍♀️ newbie friend,
You penned a first-rate post chock full of valuable health information.
The majority of your tips I followed for years and some still to this day.
I keep my blog fairly private, and I don’t think I ever mentioned I’d studied at ACE (American Council of Exercise) to become an aerobics instructor on a part-time basis working with seniors at the gym I’d held a membership for years.
A little more than half-way thru the course my oldest daughter (age 28) suffered a major heart attack, spent 3 days in ICU and sad for me and her children went home to be with the Lord.
    I never skip breakfast.
I drink 8 ounces of water 30 to 60 minutes prior to breakfast – a requirement for my Thyroid medication.
I consume more veggies than fruits and ‘yes’ a colourful plate (sandwich plate for me) is quite appealing to the eye.
I’ve walked all around my hometown and worn out numerous pairs of sneakers (Nike-Adidas-New Balance).
Before the Pandemic I attended low-impact aerobics classes and for fun Zumba plus a light hand-weight program – all offered for a small fee at the senior center.
Besides the above I’d stop in the gym a few times a week to walk the treadmill and utilize the recumbent bike.
Of the above list I continue with the first three faithfully and walk now only on occasion (not good).
Life has a way of throwing one curve balls and with little socialization came depression.
To make matters worse I live in an apartment complex with an inconsiderate nocturnal man who suffers from OCD thus my sleep pattern has become segmented.
Over the years I dabbled in numerous hobbies. I still crochet, read and maintain a blog plus create videos for a popular social app a family member is an employee thereof.
Now you know a little more about grannie 😊 and I learned there’s 8 grams of protein in one cup of 1% milk.
    Take care and stay healthy!

    1. Thanks for sharing all this!!!
      You are incredible
      Best wishes to you. 🙂

      1. Thank you. You are very kind. 😊
I forgot to mention with regard to your post that fruit juices have high sugar content.
I dilute mine with 50% water.
In younger years I’d have a glass of wine on occasion with meals, a small bottle of iced cold beer at summer barbecues.
I thank the good Lord for my common sense NOT to follow in my father’s footsteps. Sadly, he was a full-blown alcoholic.
It’s amazing to me how the majority of kids raised in dysfunctional homes go on to repeat the pattern as adults.
I was in the minority who chose a different path.

  20. Really a great tips.
    Thanks for sharing ❤️

    1. Glad you enjoyed the post 😊
