The favorite season of many is almost gone, paving its way to a golden brown fall. And what better way is to fight the re-emerging autumnal nostalgia that slowly but surely closes in on us but to head to a local movie theatre and see what they have on the menu? After all, the entire year of 2017 is basically a huge cinematic buffet – according to the sounding announcements we have all witnessed throughout the year at least. Still, there are some headlines that have just premiered or are expected to make grand debuts soon, so we’ve decided to choose the freshest 5 we believe are the must-watch movies by the end of this summer. Here are the top 5 must-watch movies of this summer:
#1 Annabelle: Creation
Genre: horror/thriller/fantasy
Release date: 8/11/2017
The horror fans are already thinking highly of the second installment of Annabelle (the first one didn’t go so well), which is taking place in The Conjuring universe. Rest assured this one is definitely worthy of your time, especially if you’re into creepy themes and you still think that Chucky rules. Annabelle: Creation takes place 12 years after the horrid accident dollmaker and his wife had when they suffered a tragic loss of a daughter. Now, they decide to give a shelter to a nun taking care of the group of local orphans. After all, Annabelle is safely locked away so she can’t hurt anyone…can she?
#2 The Hitman’s Bodyguard
Genre: comedy/action
Release date: 8/18/2017
With stars such as Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds and Gary Oldman we believe there’s simply no room for failure. The Hitman’s Bodyguard bursts with action and jokes that entice a genuine laugh. It might not be an Academy award material but it’s still pretty fun to watch, especially in the summer, when hard subjects and dramas are certainly to be avoided by all means. So we warmly suggest you this story of a bodyguard who is supposed to protect a hitman who needs to testify in International Court of law because we’re sure you’ll have a blast.
#3 Dunkirk
Genre: historical
Release date: 7/21/2017
According to IMDb, this is the first film from Christopher Nolan that is actually based on historical facts. It takes place during the WWII, and it tells the story about allied soldiers from Belgium, the UK, and France being evacuated while they are completely surrounded by Germans. And we can all agree there’s no better way to wake up from that heat-caused, summer slumber than being shaken up by a strong story about sacrifice and survival.
#4 Spider-Man: Homecoming
Genre: sci-fi, adventure, action
Release date: 7/7/2017
We get to meet Peter Parker as a teenager while he tries to align his high school life with the one belonging to his alter-ego, Spider-man. On the other hand, the city of New York is threatened once again by new and stronger evildoers. So Spider-man must come to the rescue! It’s needless to say this is a great new achievement from Marvel Studio. It is perfectly suitable both for younger and older audience.
#5 Tulip Fever
Genre: Romance
Release date: 9/1/2017
Now, this is something to look forward, especially if you’re an incurable romantic and crave the times when online dating services didn’t exist. The trailer promises everything: a gorgeous orphaned girl who is practically sold to a wealthy but old merchant who hires a young artist to paint his young but miserable wife in the 17th century when the entire city of Amsterdam got caught in the tulip obsession (hence the title). Keep in mind that Alicia Vikander is already an Academy award winner. So we’re really expecting her to give us all she’s got in this one!
