A Very Happy Diwali To Everyone

person carrying a lighted candle | Happy Diwali

I just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Diwali! For those of you that don’t know, Diwali is the Festival Of Light. Indians celebrate it for different reasons depending on which region they are from, their religion etc. It’s a day to remember to let the light into our lives. And to remember our ancestors that did so much so we could be here today.

Just a side note really quickly, I know that a lot of people enjoy celebrating Diwali to the fullest which is wonderful. But fireworks can be extremely harmful. They are harmful to the environment, decrease air quality, scare other living things in the area such as birds and animals plus fireworks can cause health issues for both animals and humans. I always get a sore throat because of the smoke and dust. So this Diwali, please be mindful of those around you and celebrate in a way that will cause the least amount of harm to the planet and those inhabiting it.

Now, onto some bad news. I’m not having a very happy Diwali because I woke up with a sore throat and a runny nose which means I officially have the flu. Hopefully, I will be recovered by New Years on Tuesday and will probably be taking tomorrow off from blogging.

Have a very Happy Diwali everyone and a prosperous new year! I wish you lots of happiness, success and joy in this coming year. And do let me know in the comments how you are celebrating Diwali and New Years this year. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  6. Oh I hope you recover soon ☺️

Yes, we have to be mindful of our environment and it’s living beings.

    Birds get disturbed with fireworks
Stray animals, even pets get bothered as well.

People with heart issues also get bothered with loud sound.

Fireworks, crackers not only create pollution but also, can give unwanted issues, like respiratory problems, etc.

Take care buddy. Sending some positive vibes 🪔

    1. Thanks so much 😊

I so agree, they really disturb the environment and other animals. And people too. Luckily, there were not many fireworks in Kenya this year. Hopefully, there will be none in the future.

Thanks so much and sending some positive vibes your way too 🪔

      1. Well I can still hear fireworks while writing this.

People are not considerate of others 😔
My city is going towards bad air 😷

        1. Wow, that sucks. Yeah, be careful when you go out and wear a mask if possible. It’s really bad to breathe all that in.

          1. Last evening someone started fire near our house.
I threw a lot of water on it, but it never stopped. It was burning and causing smoke till 5:30 this morning. I threw another bucket. Still it caused smoke for hours. Similarly, people burn trash here and it keep burning for hours.

And these are illiterate people, you cannot reason with them and you certainly can’t argue with them.

            1. Wow, that’s so crazy. That you;d have led to a much larger fire issue. That’s so sad that people still do that.

              1. Interestingly it was under under transformer and near wires. It that catches fire, than no electricity for anyone 😅

  7. Happy Diwali and hope you feel better soon ~ <3

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  11. I don’t personally celebrate but I have several friends who do, and I love the beautiful saris and lights I see in their photos. Perhaps one year I’ll get to attend a celebration. Happy Diwali and speedy recovery!

    1. Yeah, it’s always so nice to see everyone all dressed up. You absolutely should, there is an Indian community there, I think? We’re always happy when someone joins us during Diwali so you should definitely attend if they have any open celebrations. Thanks so much!

      1. There is an Indian community but I’m not sure about any open celebrations. I will check it out though for sure

        1. Oh I see, yeah definitely check in case there are in the future.

  17. Light

    Bring in the light!
    The light of wisdom;
    The light of love.
    Bring in the light!
    The light of compassion;
    The light of truth.

    Shine the light
    To reveal the grime
    That we may clean.
    Shine the light
    To cleanse the crime
    Disinfect the scene.

Shine the light so we can see
    The stains of corruption,
    The horror of war,
The reality of what we do.
    Shine the light.
    Banish the dark.
    Reveal the culprits.
    Cleanse the world.
    Shine the light on joy.
    Shine the light on brotherhood.
    Shine the light on friendship
    And share the bounty.

I’m not a believer in religion but we need Diwali every day. We need to illuminate what evil deeds are being carried out and who the perpetrators are. We need justice, scrutiny and accountability.
We need to cleanse the world of tyrants, despots, war and violence.
We need a new age of love and friendship. What’s so funny about peace and love?

    1. I love that poem, we all definitely need more light and love in this world.

    1. Thank you and to you as well.

  18. Happy Diwali dear friend. Hope you feel better soon.

    1. Thanks so much, already feeling a little better.

      1. You’re most welcome 🤗

  19. Happy Diwali and I hope you get better soon <3

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  20. Your post, as always, sets the thoughtful, comment posting mood. About all I could add, here, is how war glorifying fireworks’ high decibel explosions also upset PTSD sufferers. Get your rest and get well soon! Have the best Diwali and New Year possible!

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, that’s very true. People with PTSD can also get triggered by the firework sounds. Thanks so much!

  21. Beautiful post and happy Diwali once again🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊🥰

    1. Thanks so much and happy Diwali to you as well! 🪔😊

  22. Happy Diwali, Pooja, and I hope you feel better soon. 💖

    1. Thank you so much 💕

      1. You are welcome, Pooja.

  23. Happy Diwali, Pooja! I hope you are feeling well enough to enjoy it soon! Our meditation teacher told us about the occasion, and last night the CBC news anchor, a woman from Southeast Asia, was wearing a colourful scarf and bangles, looking very festive.

I like your cautionary advice about fireworks. This year for Canada Day, instead of fireworks at our city’s national historic site, The Forks, there was a drone light display/music/spoken work piece about Indigenous history. It was beautiful and very meaningful, and friendlier to the planet.

    1. Thanks so much. Oh wow, that’s really nice. Yeah, most people dress up quite well for Diwali and it’s always nice to see everyone in Indian clothes.

That’s so great. I think drone displays is a great way to have fun but also look out for the environment and it’s wonderful they shared more about indigenous history. A great way to learn.

  24. Happy Diwali Pooja! ✨

    1. Thanks and Happy Diwali to you as well! 🪔

  25. Feel better soon! Get lots of rest and liquids!

    1. Thank you so much!

      1. always a pleasure 🤍🤗

  28. I’m sorry you have flu. That is a deal, and I hope you take care of yourself until you’re really well. And then take care of yourself, anyway. I didn’t know about Diwali and fireworks; I only think of candle lights and food. Well, I’m now forewarned. In spite of how you’re feeling, I wish you a happy Diwali (maybe bank the happiness until you’re well).

    1. Thank you, I’ve been trying my best and slowly feeling better. Yeah, there are huge firework displays in Diwali but I feel like they’re not a great idea and it’s time to transition to a better way to celebrate. Thanks so much.

  29. Happy Diwali to you as well, Pooja! Feel better soon. <3

  32. Hope you’re on the mend. Holidays can be overrated. Love that you don’t do the crackers with the environment. There’s always next year or think New Year in Jan💕

    1. I’m doing much better today although I miss being able to breathe normally lol 😅 True, thankfully I get two New Years 😜

      1. 💗Oh good to hear.. now it’s the after math.. xo

    Better 🎊

        1. Thank you 😃

  44. Happy Diwali to you and hope you’re recovering from your flu!

    1. I’m much better, thanks!

  45. I know that by now you are feeling better. But I agree with you when it comes to fireworks. In the US they have fireworks for our 4th of July and other various holidays and I worry about our pets and the wildlife.

    1. Yes, I’m okay now minus a lingering cough. Fireworks really scare animals and even scare them to death sometimes. It’s so sad.

      1. Yes it is. Even people who have served in wars can be affected by the noise of some fireworks.

        1. That’s true. Those with PTSD can find the sudden sounds triggering.
