If you’ve been on WordPress for the last few years, you know that changes are a constant here these days. Just recently, much to the chagrin of most users, there have been some major changes made to WordPress. For a while, I thought they were just dumb random changes and then I thought, the people trying to replace it’s human customer care with AI to make larger profits would never waste money on something like that. And then it hit me, these random WordPress changes are far from random. In fact, they are very much calculated.
What do I mean by that? Well, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that every single thing they got rid of was used by bloggers as evidence of how glitchy this platform has become.
The “Random” WordPress Changes Examined
Let’s start with the Reader. They got rid of the option to search for sites we follow. Now, I don’t know about you guys but I have heard a lot of people complain about how glitchy that feature was. Some blogs would just not show up even when you were subscribed to them. Furthermore, many have complained that they would randomly stop following certain sites even though they themselves didn’t unfollow. Having that option helped us point stuff like that out, without it that becomes more difficult to do. Now the manage subscriptions option is hidden in a corner instead of front and centre on your Reader.
Next, the email stats. For a while, we were able to see how many people opened emails from the blog and how many clicked through. The problem was that people soon realised that some posts were not being sent via email to all followers.
I personally had this issue just recently with one of my posts that didn’t reach most people via email including myself (I’m subscribed to my own site with a different email) till hours after it was published. Not to mention with my last WP account they stopped sending emails completely and when I pointed it out they gaslighted me and tried to shadow ban me. The opens and clicks were super low on that post so I also assume many people that usually received a notification via email for new posts published on the site did not receive the email for that one. And now the feature to view email stats is completely gone after multiple users complained. Coincidence? I think not…
And that’s just two examples. I’m not going to go into detail for each one because I have a dinner thing tonight and don’t have the time to type it all out. But y’all are smart, you can figure it out for yourself.
Final Thoughts
So turns out, the “random” WordPress changes may not be so random after all.
Just a disclaimer so WordPress doesn’t sue me or try to shadow ban me again, these are just my thoughts/opinions and not facts. I may be the furthest from the truth or maybe I hit the nail on the head. Either way, just my thoughts.
