As I mentioned on a previous post, I recently found out that someone had plagiarised my content and stolen it word for word. I filed a DMCA hoping that WordPress would eventually do something about this and take down the post. Especially because it’s not a complicated copyright issue, it’s not like one or two lines were stolen. It’s the entire post that was stolen. As a paying customer that is currently paying a pretty significant amount for the overpriced Business Plan, you would think they would at least try to resolve this issue. But no, it’s been literally over two week (almost three) and still nothing.

I am so disappointed right now and the saddest part is that I’m not even surprised. This platform has been going downhill for a while now especially when it comes to how they treat users. Having to beg them to do their job and still getting no response is awful service. Look at other platforms, when it comes to plagiarism they’re pretty on top of it. This is exactly why WordPress is losing users. Users that have been here for years are now abandoning their blogs.

Instead of wasting time and resources making unnecessary changes to the design, I wish they would pay more attention to their users. You know, the people that make this platform what it is. I will be sending a strongly worded email today which may help. Although it’s unlikely. It’s just so disappointing to even have to do that.

I know I just got back to blogging regularly and I’m already here whining but read the name of the blog people. This is a safe space for whiners, okay! Also, imagine what it’s like working at a post for hours and then having it stolen with zero consequences. Out of all the stuff I’ve whined about I feel like this one makes the most sense to do so lol.

    2. I’m sorry to hear that happened. I have been worried about that myself which is why I haven’t been blogging before. I do hope to write a book someday and know I need to keep what I write to myself. Though I also want to share what I right to get my ideas across. So for me it’s a fine line.

      I live writing but the issue of plagiarism has come into my mind.

      1. Yeah, if you plan to write a book someday please be very careful of what you share online. And keep note of everything you plan to add to the book as it’ll have to be taken down before the book is published for copyright reasons even if it is on your own blog. Switch off reblogs for posts that are likely to be in the book otherwise you’ll have to contact anyone that has reblogged the post.

    I’m so sorry this happened to you. It’s one thing to share inspiration, but stealing someone’s words — their essence — is a hollow act.
    True creativity comes from depth, honesty, and lived experience, and no one can truly replicate that.
    There’s a kind of karmic weight to theft like this; what’s taken without integrity never carries the same soul. Your voice is uniquely yours — and no copy can touch that.

  3. It’s not a full on WordPress issue, there are a few sites you can visit and consult with. If the person is on the WordPress and you have a creation stamp on your post, and said works were post after you post that’s a different case there.

    Also there are templates for a cease letter can be sent, hence if you should have your website copyrighted. But due to international laws and internet laws, making sure you have screen shots ready and post dates for comparison. Google also have a reporting system for content like this you can report to.

    I know for me, I had simple issues in the complete pass for which I had to take a few measures that corrected this issue as being a content creator and holding trademarks it’s our responsibility to defend our works. It at time it cost just to protect your works. The internet is a big place and the conversations need to be had so other if they ever go through this have resources to fight back.

From what I’ve read, the power lies fully with wordpress because they are hosting the blog that stole my content (it’s a .wordpress.com blog) and they are also responsible for protecting the content of users as long as the site isn’t self-hosted. I think a cease letter may have to be my next step because it’s not looking like the DMCA is working. I absolutely agree, thanks for the information you shared. I’ll check out the Google reporting option too.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, it really sucks but honestly I’m not sure WP will deal with the issue any time soon or even ever considering they are barely doing anything anymore.

  9. You aren’t whining, Pooja, you are expressing frustration that many people here are also dealing with. If there were a similar platform to WP, I would try it. I recently purchased two domains for possible use as a blog, going self-hosted could help or hinder…

    1. Thanks so much, I appreciate you saying that. Unfortunately, from my research most other blogging platforms aren’t great either. I totally get why you would want to try out self-hosted but that brings its own array of problems which can get frustrating. Sigh, if only someone would make a good blogging platform we’re all so ready to migrate already.

  10. That absolutely breaks my heart. And I thought I was suffering from having to restart my blog from scratch because some Karen wouldn’t meet up Stuff that was a lie, and they turned down my blog and disabled a bunch of my buttons in my old blog. I am so sorry.

    1. I’ve had that issue too, WP incorrectly marks real bloggers as spam all the time because their system is AI run and sucks at recognising real vs spam and then they act like it’s out fault 😔

  13. I’m so sorry that happened. That stinks. It’s truly annoying how a professional website like WordPress doesn’t have anyone to help when things like this occurs. I’m thinking about starting a Substack account.

    1. Thanks so much. I have searched for other platforms but most of them are even worse then WP and self-hosting is just too much work so unfortunately we don’t have too many other options at the moment.

  24. Good luck with that. I don’t think the AI side helps a lot as it constantly trawls and steals people’s content as well. It amazes me that we pay WP good money for little or no help and assistance. However if you host your own WP site you get all the bells and whistles, extra free content and access to functions you can’t get in the paid plans. Really boils my P*** that. Anyway, all the best in getting them to assist you, however finding a big rock and banging your head against it might be the easier option.

I would love to self-host but unfortunately that comes with its own issues and can be quite time consuming. Maybe someday though. Urgh, so true, I honestly have very little hope that WP will actually help me with this situation at all.

  26. I am really surprised they aren’t being more pro-active on this type of issue. But I guess since they pretty much told us that THEY stole all our blog posts for selling to AI companies, I shouldn’t be surprised.

    1. I’m surprised too because the last time my content got stolen they took in down in a day or two. It’s been weeks this time and nothing yet. Urgh so true, the AI thing really pisses me off. Thanks.

    1. I’m surprised too, last time my content was stolen they took it down pretty quickly. This time it’s been weeks and nothing. Absolutely, bloggers won’t feel safe if our content is stolen with no consequences. Thanks so much.

  35. I’m so sorry to hear that your content has been pilfered. People are needlessly cruel and huge aholes sometimes. I had mine stolen twice too, but when I confronted them, they took it down. I’m sorry that didn’t work for you and that WP is dragging their feet on this. I can report the page too if you’d like me to? You’d have to share who they are though. Not sure if you’re wanting to do that or not. Either way, good luck with having it taken down. 🙏🏼

    I have noticed myself how quiet WP has become and seen many blogs I followed disappear this past year.

    I thought some of it was because of the issues with WP & WP Engine and recently on the issues out of the US. People are afraid these days to use their voice and I find it sad.

    Keep whining Pooja, sometimes its the only way something gets done!

    Original content. WP doesn’t seem to do anything. I remember Fandango Flash Fiction creator, having his entire blog mirrored. Scary that he could not have his stuff resolved.

    1. Wow that is so awful, I can’t believe our content isn’t even safe here anymore. The least WP could do is protect its users. Having his blog stolen is so crazy, I can’t believe it wasn’t even resolved.

  50. There are ways to disable right click and CTRL-C + CTRL-V on your blog. It doesn’t make copying impossible but it makes it harder, so lazy people are less likely to persist.

    1. I didn’t realise that, I’ll look into it. Hopefully, that will stop at least some people from stealing the content. At least they won’t be able to just copy and paste it.
