On This Cold Day In July

On This Cold Day In July | Free Downloadable Calendar For July 2025

It’s funny because it is a cold day in July here in Nairobi. July is generally the coldest month of the year for us. And I love it. You guys know how much I love the cold weather.

Depending on where you’re reading this, it is either the final day or June or the first day of July. It’s the first day of July for me and so far no major complains about July lol.

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on June though because it was a weird month for me. Mentally, I didn’t have a great month. I ended up feeling very burnt out due to everything going on in my personal life. And I think it was also due to the fact that sometimes I end up taking on more than I can handle. However, I have been working on my boundaries a lot more.

However, despite it being a difficult month I ended up doing a lot. Firstly, my cousin graduated high school so we all got him some presents and also wrote him this letter which looks so aesthetically pleasing I had to share it:

Sealed Personalised Letter

The flower I used with the seal is a flower I dried and preserved from a bouquet he got me on my birthday.

We went out for drinks after his graduation to Villa Rosa Kempinski:

Villa Rosa Kempinski

We has some delicious meals in June (more on that later):

And lastly, I petted an elephant! More on that in future posts…

So yeah, it was a weird month but hoping July will be amazing for us all. Happy July, let me know in the comments what you are looking forward to this month!

Edit:

I’m probably not going to publish a post tomorrow because I have a therapy session and those leave me a little tired.

I recently published my first book, if you would like to read it, please click here.

  2. lucky lucky you…..were about to get to +35C territory!

    1. Wow, that’s intense!

  3. I hope your July will be great, Pooja! It’s still June 30th here and its 110F degrees today at 5:18PM!

    1. Thank you so much! Oh wow, that’s pretty hot weather ☀️

      1. Ya welcome! The Mojave Desert is hot! 🔥🔥😎😎🌴🌴

  4. I just grabbed a copy of your book! Looking forward to reading it have a great July 💕

    1. Wow, thank you so much I really appreciate that and I hope you you enjoy it! Have a great July too 💕😊

      1. Oh girl, you don’t have to thank me – I’m going to enjoy your book, I’m surrounded by wonderful writers in here I’m trying to catch up with their words and work – July is already amazing. Of course I’m a Leo so bring it on 😊💕

        1. Aw that’s so sweet and hope you have the best July! My mum is a Leo too, one of my fav zodiac signs for sure 😊

  5. Mmh. That meal looks delicious. I remember on my 5th birthday, my parents asked me what I wanted to eat on my birthday. I excitedly told them I wanted to go to Burgerville. It’s a sort of local chain which later inspired the likes of McDonalds and Burger King. Thank god or whoever, my tastes have evolved. Lol. July, I’m planning on diverting my writing to submissions instead of blog posts, with a few exceptions. I’m also wrapping up a collection of songs which I will be self-releasing on vinyl LP. So, July will be busy. I hope you have a stellar July. Great music choice. I like the early country because there was a dialect in the states associated with it that’s nearly disappeared. Some people call it a twang https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLXc3csOb8A

    1. Honestly though it’s hard to go wrong with a good burger lol. Ooh wow, that’s exciting. I really like early country too mainly because it feels much more authentic than what is now considered mainstream country music. The twang definitely helps too though. It’s one of my favourite parts about older country song, musicians like Hank Williams really stood out because of that sound.

  6. Great pix! Love to hear more when you get time. Enjoy your cold weather! (Seems so weird to say that) 😎😂

    1. Thanks and will definitely share more as the month goes on. Thanks so much, lol I love the cold so I appreciate it 😅

  7. Enjoy the cold weather. The rain here has kept the temps down a little bit which is refreshing. I love your top 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, glad it’s not too hot there 😊

  8. I’ve always found it hilarious that many of my countrymen believe that countries on or close to the equator are ALWAYS hot. Kenya and Colombia have lots of cold places. For me, Bogota was, until I lived in Madison, NH for 10 months, the coldest place I had ever stayed in for prolonged periods.

As for me? I am looking forward for some sales of my books, including the two I published in 2025, in July. That, and keeping sane till I pass the 10th anniversary of my mom’s death on the 19th.

    1. That’s so interesting that people think that because it was so much hotter in Canada during summer then it ever is in Kenya even during the hottest months.

Hope you have great sales, I hope to read and review the latest one soon. So sorry for the loss of your mum, I know the anniversary of her passing is probably a really difficult time.

      1. Thanks for the kind words, P.J. I look forward to your review!

(If I could ask a favor, though, be sure to tell folks you know have Kindles and Amazon accounts and tell them about the book – assuming you like it, that is). Word of mouth is important to me…and thee.

        1. Will absolutely do that!

            1. You’re very welcome.

  9. We are still June 30 here in Texas, but it will be July 1st in two and half hours. It is not starting out well for us (june 30 / July 1st). We just found out that the son of very good friend just died very tragically. He was in his 20’s. The wife of a close friend of mine also died. Tomorrow the US Senate will most likely vote yes on the Budget Reconciliation Bill, which is very bad for the environment, climate and the economy, and it will kick millions off health insurance. My wife’s father is soon having dangerous surgery and I have vitamin D poisoning from eating too many vitamin D3 gummies (they tasted good). Now I am at high risk for kidney stones, kidney failure, internal organ failure and heart attack. It will take weeks for it to clear out. I did not think eating too many vitamins could be dangerous but apparently you need to follow the instructions on the label.

Anyway, I hope the rest of July will be better, and I wish you a great July.

    1. That’s awful, I’m so sorry it’s been such an awful start of the month. May your friends son rest in peace. I heard the Bill went through, that’s really sad. I had no idea you could get poisoning from too much vitamin D, that’s really scary. I hope it leaves your system soon and doesn’t affect any of your organs. I really hope the month gets better for you.

    2. I eat two Vitamin D gummies every day. No more, no less. It’s on the label!

      And yes, they’re yummy.

  10. I had no idea that July is the coldest month there.

I hope you learn to cope up. All the best to your cousin for their college!

    1. Thanks so much and have a great July!

  11. Hey Pooj, I’m digging your sweater.
Petting an elephant is quite epic and the food looks legit. July is a special month in the states, this weekend is independence day celebration, I’m not a big fan but it’s a big day. We are going to another Renaissance fair here in Oregon, it’s cool and I will dress up this time. Anyway, I’m at the concert right now, catch you later

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah it was really cool. Oh I see, hope the concert was lots of fun. And the Renaissance sounds fun too, I hope you share pics.

  14. Love that elephant tease, Pooja! Glad you are enjoying the cold – here’s to a great July!

    1. Thank you so much, hope you have an awesome month!

  15. I love how you presented the letter. Hope you have a great July.

    1. Thanks so much, hope you do as well.

  16. I hope for a beautiful July for all of us. This month is going to be great for me. My two loving people in my life celebrate birthdays this month.

How beautiful to pet an elephant, Gudka. And your food looks delicious

    1. I hope for the same. That sounds wonderful, hope their birthdays are amazing. Thank you so much.

      1. You’re most welcome, Gudka

  17. Please send some of that cold weather my way. I cannot stand summer! 😂😆🤣

    1. Lol sending some cold weather vibes your way!😅

      1. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

  18. Happy July 1st, Pooja. My least favorite months are June and July. I’m not sure why, except for the heat. As you know, I am on hiatus from posting my weekly prompt, and I am considering ending it altogether. It’s very time-consuming, and I would like to spend my time improving my poetry and adding more poems to my last book. Also, my hubby hasn’t been feeling well, and I need to spend more time with him. I have a month to think about it, so we’ll see.

    1. Take care!

      1. Thank you, Loku!

    2. Thanks so much. I totally understand, I felt the same way when I was staying in Canada. Summer was just way too hot to enjoy.
Oh I see and I know what you mean, I’m sure it’s extremely time consuming. Do what you feel is best, if you have too much else going on then I think it’s okay to end the weekly prompt. Hope your husband feels better soon.

  19. Happy July, Pooja! I have no idea what July is going to look like for me other than adding a bit more craziness into my life with the 2 new dogs joining my family tomorrow. For now, I’m just winging it!

    1. Happy July! Wow, two more dogs that’s amazing. Hope they fit in well with your family. 💕

      1. So far, so good, except my quiet morning creative time just got a lot less quiet, lol.

    Congratulations to your cousin graduation.

    1. Thanks, I’m sure he’ll appreciate that.

  21. I need a cold month in July. Lol.
I have more ongoing projects at work, but I am determined to get back in a regular blogging schedule.

    1. Lol I totally understand, June and July are always so hot. I see, wishing you the best with that. It’s hard to fit it all in a day but I think you’ll be able to once you get the hang of it.

  22. Great job on the letter. Sentimental. The food looks great, too. Have a good week, and take care of yourself now ☕️

    1. Thank you so much and have a good week/month too 😊

  23. My birthday! 😊 I love your letter too with that seal and flower – very cool. I’m looking forward to some travel and time away from my blog. It’s good to take breaks every so often.

    1. Ooh definitely something to be excited about! Thank you so much and enjoy your travels 😊

      1. Not the age so much, haha, but the celebration with good friends. Thanks! 😊

        1. Haha well enjoy the celebrations and don’t think too much about anything else 😅

  24. Between the badass looking letter you made for your cousin, your fabulous fashion, the incredibly yummy looking food, and petting an elephant, I don’t which one is more awesome! Congratulations to your Cousin on his graduation!

    1. Aw thank you so much! 💕

      1. You’re very welcome of course! 💕

  25. I do hope that this month is a happy one for you dear friend

    1. Thanks so much. Have a lovely July.

      1. Thanks my friend

        1. You’re most welcome.

  26. I tend to forget that your wisdom and expertise extend from Nairobi. I imagine you toiling away across the San Francisco Bay. I keep wanting to invite you to lunch, but our transportation system, called BART is limited. It travels under the bay between my home and the big city but has yet to venture into the Pacific Ocean. Say what you will about this technology that brings us close from afar, it has created magnificent new dynamics. I have one editor in South Africa, another in Germany, and one in New Jersey. My clients are worldwide, and I am always thrilled when I hear from people in India, Peru, Portugal, and other places beyond. So, our July is our springtime, and I can finally wear shorts again. Stay well, my friend.

    1. Maybe someday we’ll have a lovely lunch when one of us travels a little more. So true, it’s such a gift to be able to meet people from all around the world and gain insight into their lives. Enjoy the warm weather and have a great month.

  27. It’s interesting knowing you are on the other side of the world with opposite weather, Pooja. We’ve had hot weather here.

    1. Yeah, it’s interesting how different weather is depending on the location. Enjoy the warmer weather.

  28. Lucky! I love cold weather. I hate summertime.

    1. Thank you! I’m the same, I very much prefer the cold.

  29. I prefer the heat! But then I live in the UK!
    Have a better July Pooj!

    1. That’s fair and have a great month!

  30. Looking forward to hearing you have a much better month.

    1. Thanks so much, so far it’s definitely better.

  31. I don’t know if I’ll ever have a reason to visit Nairobi, but the fact that it’s cold there at the time of year where my state is miserably hot is definitely a selling point.

I hope you have a great month of July in the nice chilly weather!

    1. Maybe this is your sign to spend summers. Hopefully things will cool down soon and have a great July too!

      1. I used to have a friend from HS who lived in Nairobi but she’s in the U.S. again. Maybe someday, though. I would be surprised if she and her husband don’t move back at some point.

We got a cool front and a bunch of rain right after I posted this. So things worked out!

        1. Oh nice, that’s really cool. We have a pretty significant amount of people coming from the US to Kenya and I think it’s been that way for a long time.

Haha, I guess the clouds heard you!

  32. I hope you have a better month! Exciting that you got to pet an elephant! That is so wonderful that July is the coldest month of the year for you! For us, it is hot in Canada. I wish that summers were cold.

    1. Thank you and yeah it was a really awesome experience! For sure, Canada is so hot in summer. Hopefully, it’ll cool down sooner than later.

      1. We’ve just started our summer, so it’s going to be hot for a while! They say that elephants have good memory! That elephant might recognize you if you cross paths again!

        1. Maybe so, that would definitely be very cool if it did!

  33. Enjoy the cool temps, Pooja, and you got to pet an elephant, I am so jealous! I love elephants, so I’d love to hear more if you feel like sharing about your experience. I hope July brings more joy for you. ❤️

    1. Thank you! Will definitely be sharing more about that experience soon and hope the same for you for July- have a great month. ❤️

  34. My parents have always taken on more than they should and wondered why they are tired.

    1. I’m the same way but this month I’m taking it easy and feeling much better.

  35. Looking forward to your “more on that later” posts! 😀

The letter’s really pretty, and the food looks so delicious! <3

    1. Hope to share more next week and thank you! ☺️

  36. Sorry to hear that you had a difficult month, but good for you for working on your boundaries! That is a big job to turn around in one’s life, but vital for mental health, as you’ve discovered. Hoping your next month will go better!

    1. Thanks so much! Yes, it’s made a difference and I’m actually feeling less stressed out now. Have a great July!

  37. Your handwritten letter is so lovely. A treasure for him to keep forever. 📝 Love the photo of you! Enjoy your cold month. Sounds appealing. 😊

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, I wanted it to be personal and something he would like. 😊

  38. Happy July, it’s been hot over here in NYC. Congrats on your cousin’s graduation.

  39. Happy July – here’s hoping it really is great for all of us – so jealous you patted an elephant! They are amazing creatures! Linda xx

  40. Glad you’re enjoying the cool weather!!! Love the sweet dried flower with the preservation of the flower he gave you on your birthday. I’m sure that touched him! The elephants are sooo adorable 🥰

  41. Happy July! Fingers crossed this month brings wonderful things for everyone. I’m so envious you got to touch an elephant—they truly are incredible animals!

    1. Thank you so much and yes elephants are so incredible and very cute too! Have a great July!

  42. Wish you a great July

    1. Thanks, wishing you the same.

  43. Thanks a lot

    1. You’re most welcome.

  44. Wow thats so cool you petted an elephant! Love your rainbow striped tshirt. I hope July is an easier month for you with regards to what is going on in your personal life and that you have some more nice moments ✨️💗

    1. It was such an amazing experience, we had so much fun! Thank you so much, so far it’s much better 💕😊

  45. You petted an elephant, wow! How awesome is that! Glad you had a good June! Enjoy July! Xx

    1. It was definitely awesome, thank you!

  46. It’s also really cold in June/July here in Nigeria!
Looks like June was an eventful month!

    1. Very interesting to learn that, it may be colder there since it’s higher up North. Thank you, hope you had a lovely June and have a great July!
