Six Word Story:

Conformity- the price paid for acceptance.

About This Six Word Story:

I haven’t shared a six word story in quite a while so I thought I would share this one today. It randomly came to me as I was scrolling through social media the other day. I find myself spending less and less time on other platforms apart from WordPress. There was something irritating me about most social media platforms and it finally struck me. It’s the fact that social media pushes uniformity to an incredibly unhealthy extent. I mean, personally I think any amount of uniformity sucks but the levels on SM are crazy. Anything that deviates even slightly from their norm (not even just norms but from the audiences specific norms that only they are used to) is instantly attacked.

And most people who are “big” on social media like influencers etc are so fake. They all have a very specific look, style, way of speaking, content etc. And that’s kind of the only real way to grow your audience or get the algorithm to push your content.

Anyway, that’s my rant for today lol. I just needed to whine.

What did you think of this six word story? What are your thoughts about conformity and social media’s obsession with uniformity? Let me know in the comments below and feel free to share a SWS or some six word stories of your own in the comments as well!

I recently published my first book and would be very honoured if you took a minute to check it out here.

  1. Great post, all so true, unfortunately

    1. Thank you so much.

  2. Being fake is a new normal
I don’t like this fact at all
Too old to fake it, too dumb to make it
Being real is a good call
Even if a bit old fashioned
Life is short , enjoy the day
Trust yourself and learn to play

    1. Yup, exactly.

  3. The story is exactly right, Pooja. And, I have dropped all social media platforms I was using except for Instagram because there is so much stuff there that makes me laugh! 😂👍🏻

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, that’s totally fair! 😅

      1. Happy Saturday!

        1. Happy Sunday! 😊

          1. Thank you my lovely friend! 🥰🥰

            1. You’re most welcome, hugs! 🤗

  4. I kind of like being a rebel when it comes to conformity. I love to do my own thing IRL and online, and don’t care how many people like it or not. Thankfully I don’t get any negative pushback, which was a huge paradigm shift from how my life used to be. Truly, not seeking approval is quite liberating!

    1. I love that, I think more of us need to rebel because what’s the point of existing if we’re not doing it as our authentic selves!

  5. Wow – that’s 6 words that packed a punch. I think you are right on!

    1. Thank you so much!

  6. Facebook, Instagram, X or whatever it’s called now are havens for toxicity. I don’t even have those apps installed on my cellphone. I’m glad to have closed my accounts.

    1. Yup, absolutely agree. I’m glad you’ve left them, they truly are toxic.

  7. I pretty much steer clear of social media outside of WordPress and Substack.

I’ve been there, done that with the others, and I can’t take it, really. 🤣😂😆

    1. Yup, that’s totally fair. Most SM platforms are so awful, I literally dread opening IG these days 😫

      1. I can only imagine what IG is like nowadays. 😂🤣😭

        1. You don’t wanna know 😢😂

          1. Child, I am certain that is the truth. I know I’m not missing anything! LOL!

  8. It’s pretty gross, especially Reddit. I’ve been banned from subs for belonging to other subs. More than a few times.

    1. Reddit is insanely toxic. I avoid it as much as possible.

  9. Aside from wordpress I am only on two other platforms Facebook and Instagram and I think they both suck in various ways. The bots react to strangest things. I am an administrator for several beer groups on Facebook and they put anything slightly out of the ordinary in the potnetial spam folder, and then I have to gor through all that every day and release it. The bots are dumb. I write whatever I like and I don’t care about the consequences. It has earned me some FB jailtime.

    1. I don’t use Facebook anymore but I have heard similar complains from others. Bots and AI are not ready for SM use, in my opinion, and it causes a lot of errors.

  10. Acceptness is overrated. Uniqueness is better. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Agreed, great SWS!

  11. 🙏🌹👍

    Aum Shanti

    1. I’m glad you finally escaped, some people never do. Conformity is constantly pushed on us. Yet, we clearly thrive more when we live free.

  13. The Borg from Star Trek said it perfectly, “resistance is futile, you will be assimilated”🙂. I think people tend to go on social media to zone out and disconnect from the world so that may be why they don’t want to view things out of the ordinary. Awakened to Sulfur, realizing eternal damnation.

    1. Yup, exactly haha. That’s true, I think people like to zone out with social media because life is difficult a lot of the times and we need a break from it. And that could be why they like things to be a specific way. That’s a good point. 🙂

  14. “I find myself spending less and less time on other platforms apart from WordPress. ”
    Same here.

I tell myself Internet is getting boring… which’s good by the way.
    My screentime has significantly decreased.

Finally you figure out it— the new uniformity imposed by the Social Media is the weirdest thing.

Some social practices are common. We are linked to our traditional social roots.

The point is social media isn’t healthy anymore (was it, ever?). Each step of opening yourself cost you BIG. My privacy matters to me. I love my life (and ‘not interested’ in staring at how other people’s life look).

What I have to share on this…?

“My life is under my control.” Lol.😂

    1. I agree, I think the internet is slowly but surely dying and I believe it has a lot to do with the integration of AI which takes away from actual creativity.

  15. Oh yes, I agree with you 100%

    1. Thank you. I think many of us are noticing this.

      1. You’re most welcome

  16. Excellent 6 word, Pooja. I agree with you 💯%. I agree with Lokesh, social media isn’t healthy anymore, and so much of it is fake, and opinionated.

    1. Thanks so much and yeah most platforms have become that way.

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja.

  17. I found your story so true!

    1. Thank you so much!

Interesting thoughts. Like the 6 word story.

    1. Thank you so much.

  19. Love that Pooj! Far too big a price!!

    1. Agreed, thank you!

  20. Spot on, Pooj. However, I still have tech problems w/WP regarding the flow and access to posts. It’s unreliable and has led me to believe this platform, too, is slanted towards a POV. In other words, pushes one towards conformity, or Tribalism. That’s just the way we’re wired.
Still, you’re right – better than others.
    Hang in there 🙂

    1. Generally, I find WP to be pretty diverse. There are tons of different people and opinions here but yeah most communities tend to have a majority or minority with certain things. Thanks so much 🙂

  21. Conformity sometimes might need new forms. (I like the relevance of your story!)

    1. Agreed and thanks!

  22. Conformity nowadays is addicted to illusion

    1. Yup, absolutely. Really like your SWS.

      1. I really enjoy yours too

        1. Thanks so much.

  23. Something I always said to my daughter as she was growing up.
“People either like you, or they respect you.”
They generally ‘like’ you if they feel superior to you. They ‘respect’ you when they know you are your own person… Many ‘respect’ my daughter… She remains true to herself.

    1. That is so absolutely true and something I only learned as an adult, I’m so glad you taught your daughter that earlier on. I spent way too much time trying to be liked and even then most people didn’t like me, they just found it convenient to have me around.

  24. We need more ranting like this!

    I enjoy

  25. Conformity is costly ( <3 your SWS and sentiments) paid at another's expense … I only used SM for advertising or marketing because I don't believe real ppl exist on there anymore (lol), oh and the catfishing is alarming! Excellent post and hope life is treating you better than hoped!

    1. So true and I kind of do the same with SM these days, it’s just so hateful and toxic and fake these days. Thanks and hope you’re well too!

  26. With the few sms sites I stay on, I strive to be authentic. But there’s also not enough time, or, maybe it doesn’t seem to be a good investment to give it the time it would take to break through with some kind of vulnerability/authenticity.

    1. I think God didn’t make us all to be the same. Different can be awesome!

    2. That’s great, we definitely need more authenticity on SM. That’s true, I stopped posting on IG daily because it just didn’t feel worth it anymore.

      1. There was some point at which I determined to write more about what I was posting, but soon learned people would prefer just the pics, esp pics of the dog! 😀

        1. Lol yeah dogs and cats do really great on SM 😅

  27. I have no time available to enrich social influencers so called who’s giant egos do produce nothing more than dollars in their pockets from those gullible to believe everything they say and even in many cases pay them directly or facilitate their enrichment by slave following. And for that matter AI is giving them a run for their money now. If someone has something useful to add to my knowledge I do have time to listen. 🙂

    1. I completely agree, well said. 🙂

  28. Hi Pooja. You’re correct. Social media is very toxic and so fake. It shouldn’t be so difficult to make connections, especially in today’s world, but sadly it’s. Social media is a sick and twisted game. Time we stop playing 🙂

    1. Yup, it’s so incredibly fake and it’s a big part of why we’re losing connections in real life. To stop playing is all we can do 🙂

      1. Absolutely. I’m glad WordPress connected us. The writing outlet online seems like a blessing in disguise.

        1. I totally agree, WP seems to be the only platform I’ve really connected with others on.

  29. he handed me the phone
    i said no
    and the cones
    got hit
    and destroyed
thinking this time or this year
doing the same will change things
    is dumb and insane
    ya know?

    1. Yup, some things don’t seem to change.

  30. Superb story 👏👏👏

    1. Thank you ☺️

  31. I’m with you, I have drifted away from social media … it is too copy-paste for me 😔

    1. Yup, exactly. It’s sort of eerie really.

      1. I think AI is going to accelerate the change … I don’t like being doom and gloom about things, but it scares me a little how much creativity and wisdom are being devalued … all replaced by mindless clock-bait and lazy images of people with too many fingers that the authors don’t even bother to repair …

        1. I totally agree, AI is honestly a huge threat to creativity and individuality.

          1. Stay the course – keep swimming up stream against the current – it makes you more relevant than ever! xx

  32. I just talked to a friend of mine today over lunch about that exact thing!! I want to only share myself genuinely and authentically, wanting the same in return.

    1. Yup, I feel the same way and want to keep it real on social platforms. I’m really tired of seeing really obviously fake content.

      1. Exactly! 🙂

  33. So much truth said in your six words, Pooja … it’s the ways of this world it seems…and sadly so.
As a teacher, watching these kids grow …into this fake …is scary…🤍

    1. Thank you and yes I so agree, the younger generations are already so negatively effected by it all. Yeah, as a teacher it must be so sad to see it 💔

  34. I like your six word story. I have never been one to try and fit in. I usually kept to myself or did things my way. So yes, it sometimes sucks when you want awareness for yourself, especially as a writer, but it does not work as well because it’s not the norm.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, it’s a struggle because only those that conform tend to grow a larger following but it feels wrong being fake online.

      1. I agree, a good person does not have to be fake.

        1. Exactly and they don’t need to share their kindness online either every single time.

  35. Excellent post, and unfortunately, what you say is true.

    1. Yes, unfortunately so. Thanks so much.

  36. Your SWS is right on. I’m spending way less time on socials as well. The fakeness and the nasty commetns suck a lot of the time, and they are also time-sucks.

    1. Agreed, it’s so negative and toxic these days.

  37. Totally with you, here, Pooja! 💞💞💞 What ever happened to listening to another viewpoint, seeing all sides of an issue, walking in someone else’s shoes? Live and let live, you do you, boo! Listening to the stuff spewed on SM is so freaking exhausting, too many only want to live in their own echo chamber.

    1. I so agree, everything is so extreme and toxic on SM. No one wants to listen to anyone else’s POV or even show any empathy. It’s all judgement and hate. It gets exhausting.
