Saturday Night

It’s Saturday night

And you’re still not here

By my side

But then again

You never were

Really here

Just a figment of

My overactive imagination

My punishment

For my

Hyper-independence

And yet I still wait

All alone

On this Saturday night

For you

And only you

About Saturday Night:

It’s been a busy day but a very productive one which I’m happy about. I went to bed on time last night and woke up earlier and actually had breakfast lol. I was going to do a WIEIAD post but couldn’t get the video together in time. So, I decided to share a poem instead.

I didn’t really have an inspiration behind the poem or anything. Sometimes I like to just type out whatever words pop into my head and see where it goes. After all, it is Saturday night and that was as good a start of point as any.

I don’t generally write anything romantic because I’m not the biggest fan of sharing my life with other humans and don’t have the best rep in that area. However, we all occasionally wish we had someone who understood us and that we could spend time with. And some lucky duckies have actually found that which is awesome!

What did you think of this poem? Let me know in the comments section located below because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. There is a good human for you out there

  2. Yea, to have someone who understands you is a cool addictive in life, and I do also feel luck plays a part, some people are truly lucky to find their person

    1. Yes, I often think so too. Some people are lucky enough to find the right person and some of us aren’t.

  3. my life story……..the heart knows what the heart wants….sometimes that longing feels, or just feels, just remembers the good..there’s something to be said about god memories.

    1. Yeah, the good memories help.

  4. Nice. This instantly reminded me of the one that got away in 1982. A painful memory that I’ve carried for decades. The only woman I ever truly loved.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that, not being with the person you love hurts so much.

      1. It’s been a life long hurt…

  5. LOVE IT. I am in the same position. Being hyper-independence is debilitating at times.

    1. Yeah, it can get really lonely.

“I’m not the biggest fan of sharing my life with other humans and don’t have the best rep in that area”. 🤔, Who or what, do & don’t you have the best rep in that area with ??? 🤔

    1. Don’t ask my ex’s 😭

  7. A poem that conveys loneliness and the silent longing for someone who perhaps was never truly there. Sometimes imagination fills the void left by absence.

    1. Yes, I think so. Thanks.

  8. It certainly sounded like a true situation full of longing and heartache. Mix that with a bit of ‘reality’ and voila – instant poetic success. 🤗

    1. Yup, a little bit of both 🤗

  9. 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

  10. …the breakfast part sounds like a challenge met…😋 lol …
your poem- hits hard in the softest places… well expressed, Pooja…🤍

    1. Lol it was. Thanks so much 💗

  12. I think it’s a wonderful poem.

    1. Thanks so much.

      1. You’re very welcome

  13. Nice verse. I spend my Saturday nights with the girl Jim foolishly let get away. Well technically she is sleeping tonight while I am spending time with WordPress!

    1. Thank you. Both great ways to spend your Saturday night!

  14. If you were waiting on a Saturday night,
maybe I was searching for you in another place,
    another moment, another story.
But now that I know you were there,
I wouldn’t let you wait alone again.

    1. Aw, that’s a nice a addition to the poem.

  15. Girl, you are talented with words! just typing and popping out words like that is a gift.

    1. Aw thanks so much!!

      1. You’re welcome!

  16. This one hit close to home, Pooja. We’ve all sat with that particular ache… waiting for someone who, existed more in our heads than in our lives. What strikes me most is your brutal self-awareness. Naming your own “hyper-independence” as the culprit, turning longing into self-reproach, a rare trait but shows a strong personality behind.

    1. Thanks so much. Hyper-independence has it’s pros and cons and self-awareness is always important for growth.

      1. Yes, and sometimes one (pros or cons) outweighs the other, depending upon the situation.

        1. Yeah, absolutely.

  17. A very deep yet suttle poem. It led to a rapturous imagination in my mind.Well done:)
    Happy Women’s Day!

    1. Thank you! Happy Women’s Day!

  18. This is as sad as it is beautiful. Love hurts, doesn’t it.

    1. Thank you. Yes, unfortunately so.

  19. Love is one complicated emotion, isn’t it?
Mix it with a dollop of lust and suddenly there’s this desire as bright as the sun.
Mix it with “friendship” and suddenly sadness can come out of if (ie, freindzoned).
Add some food and you have a possible eating disorder.
Keep it to yourself and you might end up with narcissism.

Yeah, complicated. But we all want love, that’s for sure.

    1. It sure is and yet we all crave it.

  20. True love is hard to find, but I believe there is the ‘right one’ out there. Don’t settle for anything less.

    1. It is and I think so too, settling is never the answer.

  21. Fantastic Pooja < 3 < 3.

To know that you just typed out the words that popped into your mind with no particular inspiration at the core, and it worked out into this lovely sentimental poem, is remarkably beautiful since it is so raw and natural 📖✍️💡

It had a very relatable message about sometimes wishing we had someone that bonds with us on such a caring and empathetic level, but I am so glad that it wasn't necessarily your predicament and you were just scratching a poetic itch 👍😆

    1. Thank you so much ☺️ Sometimes the word just come so naturally. 💕

      1. You are welcome as always darling 💕💕🥰. I concur with your sentiments wholeheartedly; sometimes the words comes so naturally, and sometimes it’s in that same manner that “the right one” comes along 😁😆👌

        1. So true 🤗💗

  22. Well it’s Saturday night and I’ve just got paid
Fool about my money try to save
My heart say “Go go, have a time”
‘Cause Saturday night and I’m feel fine.

    Rip it up Pooj!!

    1. Haha very much enjoyed your take on it!

  23. He’s there. Don’t you remember? You stabbed him and plastered him into the wall last November. 🤣😎🙃

Ps this is a beautiful poem. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Lol so that’s what happened to him 😅 Thanks ☺️

  24. Maybe in my dreams…

  25. The poem is wistful. And I think you’re right in that those without partners often dream of having such a person (and letting such a person have us). A dream perhaps, a wish, until it happens. Or we keep our “Hyper-independence.” Or might we have both? Concise, engaging work, Pooja. I hope this new week is pleasant and good for you.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, it’s difficult to let someone in when we’re so used to our hyper-independence. If we’re lucky, we get both and if not we enjoy the time we have on our own. It is and hope your week is off to a good start too.

  26. Love your poem. Sadly, reminds me of my ex though.

    1. Thank you. Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that.

  27. Beautiful poem, Pooja! Weekend nights can be more punishing and you captured that perfectly!

    1. Yes and thank you so much!

  28. I love the poem. It’s beautifully sad. Daydreaming is my 24/7 job so I understand the feeling completely.
All the lonely people… Where do they all come from? All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

    1. Daydreaming is an addiction that’s hard to beat. So many lonely people and yet most of us are alone.

      1. This made me think of a musician who reflected it beautifully in his songs, couldn’t find him. But I found this https://youtu.be/ui3O8SHjba4?is=X5seAdnY0EVtf0Q7. His name is Delfin, a Russian speaking poet and songwriter.

        1. Interesting, will definitely check him out.

  29. I love the poem, thank you for sharing. 🙂 I am stuck in the middle, though; I won’t let go of my hyper-independence. Yet I know beyond infinity that the one meant for me will accept all of me…my daydreams become my reality…

    1. It’s the same for me, I think it’s possible to have both with the right person. Now if the right person could find us, that would be great 😅

  30. Loneliness is not confined to having no one to share your life with. People can be lonely when surrounded by people and its one of the problems of our modern times.

    1. True, it’s about being around the right people.

  31. It’s nice to entertain the idea, yes. 🙂 Enjoyed your poem and am glad that you’re feeling mostly happy and productive!

    1. The idea is sometimes much more fun then the real thing 😅 Thank you!

      1. Hahah. Truth, that.

    1. Thanks so much. ☺️

  32. brilliant Pooj! Loved this! Well done on a wonderful poem!

    1. Thank you so much!

  33. Great poem. I found it to be sad, partly because I believe there is more than just one person that we would be compatible with. It is usually circumstances and our own limitations that limit the choices.

    1. Thank you. Totally, I think there can be lots of people out there for us but we may not be able to meet them due to the circumstances.

  34. 😅this is exactly how I felt on Valentine’s day

  35. Ah, Pooj.
I bet the moment you decide to put a little effort into it, you’ll be snatched up in a flash.
    But I’m just guessing. 👌🏾

    1. Aw thanks so much 😊

  36. It has a lovely, melancholic feel to it. I understand. And thank you for letting us catch a little bit of the feels too.

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  37. I guess there is a fine line between independence and loneliness…

    1. Yup, unfortunately so.

  38. This is a lovely poem PJ. ❤️

    1. Thank you ☺️

  39. Wonderful poem!

      1. You’re very welcome.

    Lovely poem.

  41. Happy to saw initially in this poem that you mention about breakfast dear. I think that you can write a romantic poem brilliantly and I hope the next poem will be that.

    1. Thank you so much, maybe the next one will be 😊

      1. Definitely dear Pooja, becoz you are a born writer with great imagination, I am dam sure and eagerly waiting for that.

        1. Thank you, that really means so much 💗

  42. I love you can hold both a great day and the longing all in one, eat breakfast, spit it out, write a poem and move on. Kind of like your book, lol 😂

    1. Lol exactly! 😂

  43. You need to start journaling. Your poem shows an emotional build up beneath. You have expressed right emotions in wrong place

    1. I do journal, every single day actually. I also go to therapy and do multiple other things that help me express and process my emotions. I’ve been doing so for years. This isn’t the wrong place to express anything, I like to be honest and transparent both on my blog and in my poetry.

  44. Appreciate the effort you put in. Maybe you have a journey I am not aware of. But all the best

  45. You are most welcome 🥰

  46. A wonderfully written poem, Pooja! 🥰♥️🌸

    1. So glad you enjoyed it! 😊💕

      1. ♥️💖🌹

  47. Such a tender poem, Pooja.

    1. Thank you so much.

  48. your poem was so good Pooj 💜💜

    1. Thank you so much 😊
