Widow’s Bay- Review & Thoughts

Widow's Bay- Review & Thoughts

Today, I wanted to share a short review of a show that absolutely blew my mind. My expectations were met and then some. And that show is Widow’s Bay. Widow’s Bay is a horror comedy, one of my absolute favourite genres. It revolves around a small island town called Widow’s Bay and how a mayors good intentions of bringing more tourists to the island quickly turn into his worst nightmare.

What comes up when you Google Widow's Bay?
This made me chuckle!

It is VERY difficult to get a horror comedy right. It can’t be leaning too much in either direction and this show was the perfect amount of horror and comedy. The jokes landed perfectly but that sense of something bad is happening never left.

Plot

The plot was a 10/10 for me. There were so many reveals that had me shook, there were so many jump scares that had me flinching, and every episode was so interesting I couldn’t wait to get to the next one. And that last episode made me need a second season. For which they have been approved so yay!

Characters

The characters were the best part of this show. The dialogues, the acting, their “qualms” (iykyk). They were so naturally funny but also intense and had such great backstories too. Even the minor side characters left a mark. Every single actor was perfect for their character.

Overall

If you enjoy horror comedies, this is a show you can’t miss. Finally, an original and well done show.

Sorry for the short review, I got preoccupied because I went to watch Obsession with my cousin and ended up spending a few hours hanging out after too.

Have you watched Widow’s Bay yet? Are you a fan of horror comedies? What did you think of my short little review of Widow’s Bay? Let me know in the comments below because I would love to hear your thoughts! Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. Hadn’t heard of this, but I’ll keep it in mind. I’m trying to think of another “horror comedy” that I’ve seen. What’s a famous one?

    1. Do check it out if you have some time, I’m sure you’ll love it. I think The Rocky Horror Picture show is probably one of the most famous ones. Shaun of the Dead is another one most horror/comedy fans love.

      1. Oh, that’s true. And yesterday while browsing I came upon the old K-drama “Master’s Sun”, and thought that might be an example.

        1. Yup, I’m pretty sure Master’s Sun is a horror comedy and Parasite too I think.

          1. Ohhh Parasite! Yes.

  2. Young Frankenstein.

    1. Haven’t seen it yet but will check it out.

  3. 🙏🌹

    1. How times have changed, now there’s a million shows to watch! Totally understand, a lot of people don’t want to subscribe to too many platforms like Apple TV. I think reading the cliff notes will give you a good idea of the show/episodes.

  6. I saw this one recently and loved it. It blew me away

    1. Genuinely such a great show.

  7. For me, the requirement to subscribe to Atv is a deal killer. So while it sounds interesting, it just isn’t going to happen.

    1. That’s totally fair.

  8. Will read this later! I’m watching too…

    1. Do come back and let me know what you think once you’re done with it!

  9. I’ll have to see if Widow’s Bay is on my streaming stations. It sounds fun, Pooja.

    1. It’s on Apple TV if I’m not wrong, if you subscribe to that you should check it out. It’s a very interesting yet amusing show.

  10. I don’t remember any titles from horror comedy that I may have watched currently. Your review sounds promising. But I was intrigued when you mentioned you have watched Obsession. Are you planning to do a review of it by any chance? If not, I’d like to hear your opinion on it.

    1. Yeah, I do hope to review Obsession soon but overall we absolutely loved it. A fantastic horror movie with a lot of scary parts but also an important story about selfishness, love, romance, and regret. Would totally recommend it.

  11. Thanks for sharing, Cathy!

    1. Thanks for stopping by!

  12. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I’m definitely going to check out the show.

        1. Let me know what you think if you watch it.

          1. I saw the first episode last night, and it was pretty good. I already like Tom’s assistant, Patricia.

            1. Patricia is definitely one of my favourite characters, she’s so funny and relatable.

              1. Definitely! She is awesome.

  13. Sounds fun but I don’t watch anything Horror 🙃

    1. Lol yeah horror isn’t for for everyone 😂

      1. I know 🫣

  14. Never heard of it, but I guess now I’ll have to change that. 😛

    1. If you enjoy horror/comedy you will absolutely love it!

  15. A clear and engaging introduction to a review that sets expectations well for readers. It signals honesty about spoilers while inviting curiosity about the writer’s thoughts on the show.

    1. Thanks so much.

  16. I have not seen Widow’s Bay, but it sounds like everyone involved did a great job with the show. You’re right, getting horror with comedy is a difficult balance!

    1. Yes, I think this is one of the few newer shows where they have got everything just right!

  17. Pooja, great review! Nicely organized and written. Horror comedies are indeed tricky, easy to flop or be relegated to cult status like Rocky Horror. Not really my cup of tea, I prefer belly laughs or sitting on the edge of my seat, but not both 😂 But for fans of the genre, sounds like a winner! 😎

    1. Thank you! Haha that’s fair, a lot of people prefer one or the other but I feel like this show has the best of both worlds!

  18. It’s quirky! We liked it. The premise was the best part. A small island that you can never safely leave (if you were born on it). It was filmed locally and the island that Widows Bay aspires to be (Martha’s Vineyard) is someplace I’ve been many times. In the summer, it’s pure heaven, but if you were a teen stuck there permanently, nightmare!
