An A-Z Of Just Being By Maria Sarkar Review

About The Author

Teaching and learning have been a focal point of my life and now I can add writing. My background is in literature and languages and I have always loved reading. Plus having lived in Hong Kong, India, France and the UK,I feel home can be anywhere you create a support community of friends.

My interest in the wellness field started when my relationship got strained and I had to find ways to manage the emotional turmoil. That was my introduction into Emotional Freedom Technique (or tapping as it is commonly called) and after 25 odd years I am now a certified practitioner, volunteering to support cancer patients. Cancer was my second wake-up call and since then I have practised several modalities. All of which I share in my book. My hope is that someone somewhere will benefit from my life experience.

Today, I have taken on the identity of a Yogi to fully embrace the practice. I love family get togethers, crafting, watching movies and travel.

Book Summary

Do you ever feel like life has become one long to-do list?

Emails. Messages. Deadlines. Responsibilities.

The pressure to stay busy, productive and constantly available.

In today’s world, busyness has become a badge of honour. Researchers even describe it as the cult of busy.” Yet beneath the surface, the relentless pace of modern life can leave us exhausted, disconnected and overwhelmed.

What if there was another way to live?

An A-Z of Just Being offers a gentle guide to stepping out of constant urgency and rediscovering balance.

Inspired by the author’s own journey, An A-Z of Just Being offers a gentler alternative reflecting the author’s own journey. She created an A-Z of positive attributes which she embraced, practising small, meaningful and achievable actions that helped her step out of constant urgency and back into balance.

Inside this book you will discover how to:

  • Break free from the pressure to always be busy
  • Create simple daily habits that nurture wellbeing
  • Slow the pace and find calm in a fast-moving world
  • Reconnect with what truly matters
  • Rediscover the quiet power of simply being

This is not about doing more.

It’s about living more fully.

Because sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do… is simply be.

Perfect for readers interested in mindfulness, personal growth, balance and living more intentionally.

My Thoughts On An A-Z Of Just Being By Maria Sarkar

An A-Z Of Just Being By Maria Sarkar Review

I’ve read Maria Sarkar’s posts on her blog where she shared excerpts of the A-Z concept and found them very interesting. As you guys can maybe tell from my book reviews, I’ve been making an effort to read more non-fiction books. And I thought this one would be a great read, which it absolutely was.

The book was very well written, there were no distracting errors that ruined the flow. I also found the chapters easy to understand and follow. The advice/thoughts shared in the book are also very down-to-earth and practical which I appreciated because some self-help books aren’t easy to put into practice for the average person. I didn’t feel that way about this one.

Things That Stood Out To Me

One of the things I enjoyed most about the book were the questions at the end of each chapter. I found them quite helpful because they encourage the reader to ponder over what they just read and how it affects each of us personally. It helps us identify where we stand, what we morals/skills/values we hold dear, how we can improve ourselves and more.

I also enjoyed the “Key Takeaways” because when I reread the book as I tried to get the review together, I realised I had forgotten some of what I had read which I think happens to the best of us. However, the Key Takeaways jogged my memory and reminded me of what was in the chapter.

My favourite chapter was chapter 29 which is titled, Wisdom. I love how she explains the difference between knowledge and wisdom and how wisdom is inherent. However, we need to sit in silence and listen to our inner thoughts and feelings to fully connect with it. She also talks about gut feelings and how although they may sometimes seem irrational at the time, our gut has a connection with our mind that we can’t fully comprehend and oftentimes tries to warn/guide us. I truly believe in gut feelings and am a firm believer in listening to our gut.

Finally, I liked that she ended the book with a guide on how to create your own A-Z. I found the guide helpful and I am working toward certain goals thanks to that guide. Well, the goals remain similar to the ones I’ve been working toward but my phrasing has changed because I am now understanding the power of “I AM…” vs “I want to…”

Overall

Overall, An A-Z Of Just Being by Maria Sarkar is an extremely well written book that is perfect for anyone looking to change (improve) their life for the better. It has very straightforward, easy to follow, and practical advice. Although this book would be a good read for anyone looking to read more self-help/motivational books, I think it could be particularly helpful for those that are just now getting into the genre because it was an easy read even for someone like me that doesn’t particularly enjoy non-fiction as much as fiction. I would definitely recommend it.

  3. Pooja, I really enjoyed reading your review. What stood out to me was how thoughtfully you explained not just what the book is about, but how it genuinely impacted your own perspective. Your reflections on the *Wisdom* chapter and the shift from “I want to…” to “I AM…” made your review feel personal and relatable. I also liked that you highlighted the reflective questions and key takeaways, as those often make a book far more meaningful than simply reading it once. You’ve made *An A-Z of Just Being* sound both practical and inspiring. Thanks for sharing such an engaging review!

  7. Adding practical ways is important. That gives the reader a framework within which to work and once they’ve accomplished that, they can then go their own way that works for them. But without those first steps and being hand held, they’ve just never move forward. Which is what happens to a LOT of people sadly 🙁

    1. It’s one of the first things I notice in these types of books. A lot of self-help books are like “don’t worry about your problems, just travel and blah blah blah…” but that’s not practical or realistic. Most of us can’t drop everything and travel for months without addressing our problems. I like when books, like this one, have steps from start to finish because as you said a lot of people need a helping hand with those first steps.

  8. Good review, Pooj!

      1. You’re quite welcome!

  12. Your review sounds interesting, Pooja.

    1. Thanks so much.

  13. The cult of busy describes perfectly the home I grew up in, took me a few years to unlearn the skill I was most valued for. Trusting your gut and listening to your inner self is something we hear so much about lately, even though it is an instinct we all got at birth. How come we managed to lose it? Too many distractions, too little alone time perhaps…

    1. I think we lose that instinct because we end up ignoring it. It takes us a while to get back to the basics and unlearn.

  14. What a beautiful and inspiring review! 🌿 This book sounds like a gentle reminder to slow down, breathe, and embrace a more mindful way of living. Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful recommendation I’ve added it to my reading list. 📚✨

    1. Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy it too.
