What’s Up With Pooj?

I was deeply saddened to read on this post that Sally Cronin from Smorgasbord is currently battling stage 4 cancer. For those of us that know how through blogging, we know that she is one of the kindest, most generous, and wonderful people on this platform. I hope you all join me in keeping her in your prayers or in your thoughts as she recovers.

Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about life. And how it’s so incredibly unpredictable. We never know when the ups and downs are coming. It’s so important to spend time with those we love while we can, to be a genuinely good person whenever we can be, to do what we always wanted to do.

This blog is one of the best things I’ve done with my life because it allowed me to connect with amazing people like Sally. People I would otherwise never have known. I am so grateful to you all and as much as I complain about WordPress, I am still very grateful it exists.

  1. I think I’d be asking an important question before getting on. Who made the rocket ship? Some have exploded taking off taking everyone with it, so you need to have confidence in the technology and the manufacturer.

    1. That’s a fair question although I think the quote is more of a metaphor rather than a literal rocket ship i.e don’t miss opportunities because of fear/overthinking.

    2. You’re right

  2. Thanks for posting this about Sally Cronin. My husband is also battling stage 4 cancer since 2015. This year has been very challenging for both of us. I wish her the best and will be with her in thoughts through her journey. Thank you P.J. for your integrity and for being there. It is a rare trait nowadays to find. Wishing you the best.

    1. I remember reading about your husband on one of your posts. It’s such a terrible illness and I can imagine how difficult it must be for you both. Thank you so much, I am sure she appreciates your wishes.

      1. Yes, I understand or we understand the horrible side effects of the medication and a lot.

      2. I think it is at times more challenging for those caring around the person. I try not to write about it often but that is why my hip replacement was stressful. But this time and healing worked out well. Thank you for listening.

        1. It’s true, I think it definitely takes a toll on the person taking care of them too unfortunately.

          1. Yes, I deal with it by staying focused and open.

  3. I’m sorry about your friend, Pooja, God bless her. ❤️ I must ask what the intended destination is before I get anywhere near a rocket ship! Who built it? And more. Let us not leap off of cliffs expecting to soar like an eagle!

    1. Thank you, yes may she get better very soon. It’s such a terrible illness.

That’s totally fair, some questions are necessary depending on the circumstances!

  4. The rocket ship, I’m down as long as it flies to the moon. Our life is like that, we all got a seat and no one asked or told us about the destination. Here we are, some seats are nicer than others but we are all going to the same place.
Pooja, this week I wanna get back on track and make to my job. Last week was super busy with parties and such, I guess I’m getting too old to party. LoL
I signed up for some events but I’m not sure I will make it there, anyhow I hope to hear from you soon, what you read, where you go and how life is treating you. And I know we don’t ask what seat, we just jump on it living life to the fullest, being quick and aiming high. At the end of the day, it’s a lottery…

    1. The moon would be a fun place to explore haha. Absolutely, we just sort of live life without ever having control of the external factors.
I’m too old to party too so I understand. Now they just exhaust me lol.
The events sound fun, keep us posted on how it goes if you’re able to go. Thanks and yes it’s all about hopping on and trusting the universe to take us where we need to go.

      1. It’s curious that they just moved one of the events for a later date. It’s a tarot themed meeting where they do a craft of sorts. I’m super curious to see what it’s like.
Trusting the universe is what I’m learning to do these days, worry less and just go with the flow is my new philosophy.

        1. That does sound very interesting, I love tarots. I’m trying to go with the flow too but the universe seems bent on throwing me against the rocks lol.

          1. I’m sorry, it doesn’t sound like a fun place to be.
I hope it works out fine. Stay strong and don’t loose motivation. You never know what’s in store for you, especially when the river of life takes you places you didn’t expect

            1. Thanks, trying my best to remain hopeful.

  5. Your blog is awesome and so are you.

    1. Thank you, that’s so nice of you to say.

  6. sally sounds like a wonderful person. Wishing the best care and many well wishes. ☀️

    1. She absolutely is. Thank you, I’m sure she appreciates that.

Yes I have to say that the news about Sally was a shock. I agree with you she is “one of the kindest, most generous, and wonderful people on this platform.” About the Sheryl Sandberg quote, I understand the sentiment but I don’t agree with it. You can get a truly horrible seat of death on a rocket if you don’t ask any questions. Just ask the dog Laika on Sputnik 2. The first living creature in space was also the saddest dog story imaginable.

    1. I remember her mentioning health issues but I think none of us would have assumed it was cancer. I truly hope she recovers soon, she’s such a wonderful person.

Omg yes, I remember learning about Laika. She must have been so scared and confused. Truly so sad.

  8. 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

  9. My thoughts and prayers go out to Sally. I have mixed feelings about the quote. In my high school yearbook I said I wanted to walk around the world 3 times and visit the moon and mars, however I am not a fan of flying, but have been to 45K feet in a fighter jet and experienced pulling 7gs. I would have more questions about the rocket than just the seating, lol.

    1. Thanks, I’m sure she’ll appreciate that.

That’s so interesting, I think if I could go to another planet at any point it would be Neptune. It just sounds like a fun planet and also who doesn’t want to be around when it rains diamonds lol. I don’t like heights though so I guess I’m grateful the rocket ship in the quote is just a metaphor lol.

  10. Hi, Pooja! I’m so sorry to hear about Sally having to fight stage 4 cancer. I hope that she recovers soon, and sending my prayers to her. 🙏

My most recent complaint about WP is that the new comment textbox UI, which adapts to the blog’s theme, sometimes asks me to log in again, which is unintuitive. I hope they fix it soon.

    1. I’m sure she will very much appreciate your prayers. Thank you so much.

Yes, I’ve noticed that too and it’s quite annoying. I don’t know why every change WP makes ends up making it more difficult to use the platform.

A very thoughtful and caring post, thank you for sharing 🙏. I’m not getting on the rocket ship, life is adventurous enough without taking crazy risks.

I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed of late so this week I’m continuing to focus on one thing at a time both to catch up, to allow my brain a rest and to remain stress free.

    1. Thank you so much. Haha that’s fair, life can get crazy enough as it is.

I hope you have a lovely week and are able to de-stress properly. 😊

  12. She sounds like a wonderful person. Keeping her in prayer, Pooja …
    🤍

    1. She really is, I am sure she will be very grateful for your prayers. Thank you 🙏

  13. Well…the doctor does his or her job, as fellow bloggers we show our support; mental and emotional.
I hope & wish that things get easier for her. Sometimes we worry & think too much, and stop living life.

    PEACE & strength 🕊️🤝🏼

    1. Yes, I think the best we can do is make sure to keep her in our thoughts and prayers and hope she recovers soon. Thank you, I am sure she appreciates that 🙏

  14. This isn’t a flippant question, so please don’t take it that way. But you mention “being a good person”. What does that entail? How do “you” determine what is a good person? I know you are into stoicism, so I’m sure that plays a part.

    1. I think that’s a very interesting question. We all have our own definitions of what a “good” person is. But yes, mine is influenced by my stoic beliefs and that’s why I said a “genuinely good person.” In Stoicism, we believe that our morals and ethics are of the upmost importance and therefore (depending on the context and situation), ideally we should do what would bring about the greatest good. Of course, as humans we don’t always do what’s right because we’re not perfect and are often swayed by emotions but it’s not really about perfection all the time but rather doing as much good as we can. I say “genuinely” because some people will “do the right thing” more out of fear for the consequences of doing something bad rather than having the emotional intelligence, empathy, and compassion to not want to do bad things. Believe it or not, there are people out there that don’t commit heinous acts like murder, rape, abuse, simply because they are afraid of the consequences be it legal, spiritual, or otherwise. Sure, it’s good that they don’t do those things but I do believe the reason behind why they don’t matters. At least to me it does.

  15. Best wishes to Sally and I’d be the first on that rocket!

    1. I’m sure she will appreciate that. I like that, it’s good to have an adventurous spirit!

  16. I’m saddened to hear about, Sally, and I will keep her in my prayers. I would ask a lot of questions, before embarking on a rocket ship.

Our week has been okay so far. We had a tropical storm for a couple of days, but my area escaped any major damage.

I agree with you about life being unpredictable, but I guess that’s what makes it interesting. October is my fave month, and I going to enjoy every minute of it.

    1. I’m sure she will appreciate that. It’s really sad to know what she’s going through but I truly hope she recovers soon.

I’m glad there was no major damage in your area. From what I hear in the news, Kenya is going to have a storm soon too. Fingers crossed it won’t be too bad.

Yes, I think those ups and downs keep us going. Life would be so stagnant and boring if every day was the same. October is my favourite too, I hope we both have a wonderful month. Do you have any fun October traditions?

  17. That’s really sad to hear. I will keep her in my prayers!

    1. Thank you, I am sure she will appreciate that!

      1. The most important thing is that she receives the help and support she needs!

  18. The saying “life is fleeting “ we never know.

    1. Yes, such a true saying.

Great quote, and my thoughts are with Sally and her family. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Thank you, I’m sure they will appreciate that. 😊

  20. I like what Sheryl S. has to say. I doubt I’d get on a rocketship; but if I could, then where I sit should not matter so much as where we’ll go. I’m so sorry to hear about Sally’s cancer. I have prayed and will join others in prayer. You’re right about life and how fast it can change direction. I’m listening to Classical and Jazz this week, whatever’s on the radio in the car. (So old-fashioned.) I hope you’re having a fine week.

    1. Exactly, we shouldn’t miss out on opportunities because we’re hung up on things that don’t matter.
Thank you, I’m sure Sally will appreciate that very much.
I’m having an interesting week haha, hope you’re having a good one.

  21. I love Sheryl’s quote and I try to live that way which has opened wonderful gifts! Oh what a heartfelt post and sharing of Sally! I am praying for her as well! She is an incredible human being who always lifts us up and is sooo supportive!
Hugs and love to you as well,Pooja!

    1. It’s a good way to live and helps us not lose out on opportunities!
Yes, she is so amazing and supportive- we all wish her a very speedy recovery!

  23. Love the quote’s sentiments but a rocket ship!? And Sally (OMG), that was a shocker! I have her in my heart and my prayers ((( <3 ))) She has the cutest nurse! Thank you for your generous heart ~ Love always

    1. I know, I was so shocked to hear about Sally, I truly hope she has a speedy recovery! Thank you!

  26. Hi Pooj, I watched Sheryl Sandberg’s testimony (all of it) in defense of Facebook, herself, & Mark Zuckerberg regarding FB’s role in Trump winning in 2016; and Trump & FB getting rich. She was fantastic! No social anxiety with that girl. Yeah, she would just hop on board. which is what she did with FB. At the time it was the unknown frontier, or outer space. She said, light this rocket and let’s go. hope you’re doing better. Cheers.

    1. I’m doing better, thanks so much. Hope you’re doing well too.

  27. oh hell yeah… I will be first on that rocket.
I am so sorry to hear about Sally. I have only just started reading her latest book.

    1. I hope you enjoy her book, we’re all so sad to hear about her health issues but I have no doubt she will recover quickly.

      1. I shall keep her in my prayers.

  28. Groovy Quote!!! I’m all in, but it probably would not be a bad Idea to buy a large travel insurance policy just in case! 🚀

    1. Ha that may be a good idea to do first!
