You pushed me
And I fell to the floor
And you held me in your arms as I cried
And you promised “never again”
And I believed you
And then you slapped me
And you promised “never again”
And I believed you
And then you kicked me
And said it was my fault
And I believed you
And then you broke my arm
And said that I provoked you
And I believed you
And then you said you were going to kill me
And I believed you
About “Hurt Me”:
This poem, “Hurt Me” is about what it feels like to be trapped in the cycle of an abusive relationship. It does not get better- it just gets worse. To anyone reading this who is in such a relationship you need to leave right away- it is not worth it. No matter what you look or feel like, you are worth so much more and deserve to be in a happy and stable relationship. Abusive relationships are unhealthy and can cause severe physical and mental damage to those involved.
“Evil comes from the abuse of free will” – C. S. Lewis
Note: If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, please speak up. It’s nothing to be ashamed of and not speaking up can lead to things getting so much worse. You deserve to be loved and you deserve to be safe. Abusers don’t change and don’t want to change. So please, speak up and ask for help. If you are able to leave, do so as soon as you possibly can.
