Why Boys And Girls Are Not Equal (Guest Post)

Before I begin, I would like to say to all the feminists out there – please don’t kill me. Also I am not speaking in negative terms, or opposing you. I am just expressing this whole issue in different terms so please hear me out. This is what I mean by “why boys and girls are not equal.”

When people usually ask me (and this is very rare because who wants to talk about world issues) “are boys and girls equal?” and I unfortunately respond “no”, they’ll go nuts and start accusing me of being ‘sexist’ and ‘gender biased’ etc.

Firstly, could you specify in what terms you are asking me that? Do you mean “if we can attend school together” or “if our thinking is the same?”

We often talk about how girls should have the same opportunity and jobs as boy (or vice versa). Obviously they should, but let’s talk about something discussed less often- why we are different, how there is nothing wrong with it and why we should embraces our differences rather than criticize them.

Let’s take the yin and yang symbol, if the whole symbol was black or white, we wouldn’t balance out each other. Just like men and women, the differences bring out our beauty and we have to respect these differences. If we were all the exact same than our species would have very little chance of survival. We are supposed to be different because that is what keeps the world running. Yes we should absolutely get the same chances but that doesn’t mean we are the exact same people. Everyone thinks differently and instead of trying to conform we need to learn to embrace our own uniqueness and appreciate it.

And therefore respect yourself, no matter what your gender is, you can do any particular task in your own fabulous way. You don’t have to turn into the other gender to do it. We are both strong in our own different ways, in your own wonderful human being self. Don’t change your dream or yourself. Be yourself.

Which brings me to my second point, why all the comparison? I don’t understand. If we were all equal and the same, we’d be so boring. We wouldn’t have a different opinion, a different way of doing things, a different view.

Comparing males and females is like comparing your right shoe with your left shoe. If your right shoe is so superior why don’t you wear it on both your feet? Neither the males nor females are superior, we are both important in our own ways.

So tell me, do you want to be equal or equally different?
