Why Your Blog Isn’t Taking Off

There are multiple reasons why your blog might not be taking off however a lot of them are easily solvable! This is probably why your blog isn’t taking off and the fix:

Marketing- blogging is often about marketing. You need to make people want to read your blog and to just once you need to make them want to follow your blog and keep coming back. A good way to make sure people keep coming back is to be responsive in the comments and genuinely interact with followers.

Small  blogging problems– there are a lot of small problems that are easily solvable that may be why your blog isn’t taking off. Check out these posts to see if you have any of these problems and how to solve them.

Advertising– if you want your blog to really take off you need to advertise yourself. There are certain ways to do this. Firstly, you can do some actual advertising through Google, Bing or bigger blogs that have guest posts/shoutouts. Another way to advertise yourself is to be active on other peoples blogs. Let me make it clear by that I do not mean spamming other blogs with “check out my blog” comments. I mean leave genuine comments about their content, like their posts, share the ones you particularly enjoy and remember to make some new friends!

Be genuine– if your writing is genuine and you are passionate about what you’re blogging about your readers will appreciate it and keep coming back.

  1. Thank you for making it simple and plain here! LOL. I will OVERLOOK a comment asking me to check out one’s blog in a heartbeat. LOL.

“Let me make it clear by that I do not mean spamming other blogs with “check out my blog” comments. I mean leave genuine comments about their content, like their posts, share the ones you particularly enjoy and remember to make some new friends!”

    1. Lol I’ve been editing those comments and taking out the link just to piss them off. Someone literally left one of those on this post 😂

      1. Haha! Which means, either they didn’t read the post or they were being asinine. Lol. I love it! Keep schooling them, Pooja!

        1. Haha thank you!

          1. You’re most welcome!

  2. Precise and direct to the point

    1. Thank you!

  3. If you want to create a blog for others to like it?

You gear it towards them and they will.

If you are doing it just for someone to like it?

Then you can create in the dark all day and night long type of thing.

    1. Definitely!

      1. And that’s the mentality which makes the WordPress community so great.

We all do our own things while respecting eachother enough to accept our differences at the same time.

Free to explore ourselves completely type of thing.

        1. Yeah I love how accepting the WordPress community is of different people and different opinions. Of course there are some that aren’t but for the most part it’s pretty accepting.

          1. That’s just normal in many places, can’t expect everyone to be super accepting.

            1. Yeah of course there will always be some people who aren’t accepting.

  4. Very good blog article PoojaG. I really like this one. Thank you for the tips.

  8. Good tips to gaining steady growth. We have learned to listen to our readers about the topics they want us to expand on. It always amazes us what posts get the post traffic!

    1. Thanks and yes that really helps!

I enjoy your posts, so thank you.
If I gain a following for my blog that would be great, however as long as I can write posts that interest people I am happy. I consider myself a bit of a storyteller. Hopefully I will get better as I go along.
Oh, and once in a while I’ll throw in a rant or two.

    1. Thank you and I think the rants really keep people interested haha!

  10. Straight to the point. I like it. It was very insightful and helpful. I’m definitely going to use those tips.

    1. Thank you hope it helps!

  11. Marketing is just as essential. Bloggers usually dont give it much credit.

    1. I agree if you want to grow you need to show people why the should read/follow your blog!

  12. Very helpful tips!

    1. Thank you!

  13. I’m really glad I read this post! I’m new to blogging and I’m doing instead of procrastinating like I usually do when I want to do something. So reading posts that are actually insightful on how to acquire more skill is definitely helpful! Thank you ❤️

    1. Thank you so glad it helped!

  16. Hey Pooj!

    Awesome post.
What do you think of blogs that **won’t** pick a WP plan and stay on free? Can they build an audience before making the switch or it’s too restrictive as a thing in your opinion?

    Have a stellar day. :]

    1. Hey! Yup I reached 10K on the free plan before moving to Premium. If anything I encourage bloggers to stay on the free plan till they start making money. Have a great day too!

  17. Extremely helpful!!!

    1. Happy to hear that!

  18. A blog stands or falls by its content, without question each and every Blogger will find an audience but its success can only be measured by how good the content is. Sharing a post on FB Twitter etc is a must but that’s a whole different debate.

    1. I completely agree content is very important and so is sharing your posts on social media!

  19. As a fairly new blogger I appreciate these tips. Thank you. I’m finding that with blogging there is always something more to learn.

    1. Hope the tips help and yes there’s always something to learn about blogging!

  20. Great points. I do believe interacting with your readers and commenting on other blogs, go a long way too helping your own blog “take off.” It can become a challenge fitting it all in, when time is an issue.

But, even with marketing, commenting etc, if you don’t have great content there isn’t much to get people to return.

    1. Yeah keeping your readers interested and active in the comments section is very important although time consuming and you correctly pointed out and content is probably the most important thing to keep readers coming back.

      1. It’s a balance for sure. But, without great content it can be a tough road.

  21. I follow a girl who is trying to start a gaming blog and her posts are entertaining, well written, and obviously take a lot of work with planned out photo sessions and everything… but she doesn’t interact with her readers or reach out to other blogs at all. Hurts my soul to see professional looking posts go by with TWO likes and no comments. Marketing is so important… I feel like many writers think that if their writing is good, people will just find them. Doesn’t work like that!

    1. Yeah a lot of people assume it’s only about content but personally I feel like WordPress is a community and people like to interact and feel like they’re a part of your blog. That’s what attaches readers and keeps them coming back.

  22. Thank you for this.. I’ve just started posting again in my blog so I’ll definitely take these tips into consideration 😊

    1. Hope they help!

  23. Thanks for proving these very much needed tips. Regards.

    1. Hope they help!

  24. Mine’s a combination. But hell – I’m enjoying it!

  25. Woww

  26. Marketing is the one I don’t do the most when I should. I love interacting with others more

  27. Love this, thank you for the advice! Means a lot x

    1. Thank you hope it helps!

  28. I’m just starting out with my blog! This was super helpful!! Thank you!

    1. Glad you found it helpful!

  29. yeah, i gotta get better with this. thanks for the tips

    1. Hope they help!

  30. I found this cuz you liked my first blog post, so thanks for that. Also, great advice. My skills in reaching out to others is pretty limited, cuz I got into my teenage mind to limit my internet presence for security reasons. Kind of hard to get rid of that fear, even though I’m a no one and yea. I just love to write. My soul is in my works.

    1. Thanks and best of luck with your blog! I’m very private too so it took me a while as well to really get out of my shell.

  31. i love that your posts always answer questions that i have, thanks for this one,

    1. Thank you hope it helps!

  32. Never, ever, ever give up.
    Strong message

    1. Thank you and yes never give up!

  33. Good advice, guest posting is probably something I should try(I’ve not done it before) but I really don’t know what I’d write about as most of my posts are book reviews 🙄lol

    1. People really enjoy guest posts on books/book reviews so definitely go for it!

        1. You’re welcome!

  34. Definitely helpful for beginners!

    1. Glad to hear that!

  35. Great list of helpful tips. Organic vs. paid marketing, which has worked better for you?

    1. Thank you! I would suggest a bit of both but I wouldn’t suggest very obvious paid marketing instead go for subtle paid marketing.

  36. Thanks so much for the reminder, we get so focused on sharing our travels that we forget to like and comment on other bloggers sites!

    1. It’s always a good idea to stay active on other blogs! Glad you found the post helpful!

  37. Simple and precise. Good job

    1. Thank you!

  38. This is great advice! I also enjoy promoting my blog through a Pinterest business account ! It’s really helpful!

    1. Yup Pinterest is super helpful!

  39. I want to read more!!! I just launched my blog last weekend. A few challenges but learning daily. Thx for your blog. I love it.

    1. Thank you so much!

  40. Thank you for such wise advise. I haven’t been at this blogger business for too long. But the one thing I have noted is you must have good content and be consistent. I too have setup a PInterest Account that I hope will prove helpful in the coming days. There is also Top 100 Christian Book Review Blogs and Websites To Follow in 2020. And since by blog is Christian-based I am hoping it will prove to be helpful with traffic and revenue in the future.

    As always, thanks. Happy Hunting!

    1. Thank you! Pinterest is a good source for traffic and I think having a Christian based blog will definitely help too. I hope you’re successful in growing your blog!

  41. Thanks PoojaG you are all right in my book. Be and stay blessed.

  42. Very simple, and to the point. I agree with a lot of this and some of this I will have to do myself.

    Great post.

    1. Thank you so much!

  45. Awesome blog
    Good luck

  46. PoojaG, thanks for this great post. However, I would like to say one thing that most of the advertising needs a lot of money.
Would you kindly let me know about bot.traffic, is it helpful?

    1. I don’t use bot traffic so I don’t know much about it but I do know that it’s a bad idea because it ruins the credibility of your blog and will make you lose potential sponsors.

  47. this is pretty interesting,I have been blogging and have like 10 posts now but I haven’t had a lot of likes or comments. I don’t even have a lot of traffic. I advertise myself but its not working for me really. Could it be that i’m writing boring things? Please check out my site and let me know.TIA

    1. I looked through your posts and I don’t think your writing or blog is boring. I just think it needs a few minor changes to improve it. Maybe you can email me on insomniacwithanaccent@gmail.com and I’d be happy to help you personalize your blog and make a few changes.

  48. BTW i would gladly tip if i were to get some information on how to revamp my site , thanks.

  49. Thank you, this is great advice!

    1. Hope it helps!
