Art And Anxiety #2

As you guys may know I have started doing some art again. I have talked about it in a couple of my other posts and I thought I would give you guys an update because I have been doing a lot more art these days and I also have kind of gotten the hang of how the apps work so I feel like my art work is definitely getting better!

Before I get into the art I want to talk a bit about anxiety because I realised I have not posted any mental health posts in like a while. I’m not sure why that is but this is my theory. You may know that for almost an year now- about 10 months I think- I have been taking CBD oil on a regular basis. I started out taking it every day and then every other day and now I take about three to four drops every two or three days depending on how I’m feeling. CBD oil has significantly reduced my anxiety as well as insomnia and I just don’t really experience most of the symptoms I got due to anxiety. So, I usually write about what I’m going through or things that I am experiencing and since anxiety is not a major part of my life anymore I feel like I kind of stopped writing about it just because I don’t think about it that much anymore. If you want to read more about my CBD oil journey please click here.

I have noticed that art has really been helping me with my anxiety and stress management as well. You probably don’t experience this if you don’t have anxiety but people with anxiety disorders have brains that never turn off. Basically, there is always that voice at the back of your head and it can be extremely exhausting. What I have noticed recently is that when I do art I concentrate on it so hard that the voice at the back of my brain shuts up which is such a relief even if it’s for a little while.

What I have been really enjoying more than colouring is doing my own art from scratch. As much as I love art I’m really not very good at it so I decided to draw something that was not too difficult and complicated- The Simpsons! Last time I showed you my picture of Bart Simpson which I was not fully satisfied with (I still am not so I will be editing it):

I am also done with the rest of the family now and that’s what I wanted to share with you guy!
The next one I did after Bart was Homer Simpson- this one took me A WHILE but I am finally pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

Next I did Lisa and I’m pretty happy with this one as well! By this time I had gotten the hang of how to use all the options on the app and was getting a lot better at drawing and colouring so I did not take as long to make this one.

After Lisa, I did Marge. Now her face did not take that long as I was used to drawing their faces now but her hair! Her hair took me more than an hour to get just right but I am super happy with how it turned out and I was even able to shade it!

And lastly, of course I drew Maggie. This one was pretty easy to draw and I love how she turned out!

Apart from that I’ve been doing random paintings like this one. I don’t know why but I just love not actually painting something specific but just splashing paint around.

App for colouring: Paint.Book
App for The Simpsons: ibisPaint X
App for painting: PaperDraw

I hope you guys enjoyed my art- I was so excited to share it with you guys!
Have you guys learnt anything new during quarantine or have you started doing something you really enjoyed but stopped doing? Do you guys enjoy doing art? Have you ever tried art on an app? Do you generally do art on an app or for real? Does art help you manage your mental health? Who’s your favourite character from The Simpsons? 1. Your stuff looks amazing! I can’t draw to save my life, but I do bullet journaling with stencils and gel pens and just bought my first set of stencils and playing with them

    1. Thank you and bullet journaling sounds fun too!

      1. It’s great! You can organize your life and be creative about it!

        1. Yeah as long as you get a bit creative with it I’m sure it’s a lot of fun!

          1. It’s awesome!

  2. The Simpsons are spot-on! Did you use an iPad/laptop and stylus to draw them? Also, what app did you use for coloring? Sorry if I missed it…. is it a specific app for digital adult coloring?

    1. Thank you! I used my phone and I drew them free hand using an app called ibisPaint X and it’s more for drawing and painting your own stuff. For adult colouring I would recommend Paint.Book. They’re both linked above in case you’re interested in trying them out yourself!

      1. You drew the Simpson’s on your phone? Wow, that’s even more impressive! Idk how you did it but you have a real gift. I hope you draw more characters in the future!
That’s interesting, I will look into it. I especially like the girl you colored (bottom left corner of main pic). ✌️💕

        1. Aww thank you so much! 😊😊
I used the colouring app for that one and it was a lot of fun to do!

  3. It looks great, Pooja. I’m glad that art helps you. Your Simpsons drawings are spot on!

    1. Thank you so much Shweta!

  4. I was never good in art. My creative side comes out in writing, acting and directing. I admire people who have artistic ability. 🙂

    1. I’m not very good at art either- mostly because I don’t have the patience for it but I can do some sketches and things.

I looove the Simpsons drawings. They look so good. Great work. I enjoy to make art using canva.

    1. Thank you so much! Canva is really fun I like using it as well!

  6. I would never know your Simpsons were not drawn by Matt Groening himself if you hadn’t told us. They look EXACTLY like them! Awesome job, I’m super impressed. I like the paintings too. I color on Fridays in a book by Marty Noble.. Right now I’m doing parrots. I can’t draw at all, but I like to color in things with color pencils. 🙂

    1. Omg thank you so much!! Colouring is definitely a lot of fun as well!

  7. I have learned how to cook🖤

    1. That’s so great- cooking is so much fun!

      1. It really is even though I am just glad I didn’t set the kitchen on fire

        1. I’ve started two fires so far but they were very small haha

    1. Thank you!

      1. Welcome..peace and love

  8. Hi Pooja
I like your freehand paintings best. They are so expressive, and exploring colour tone is obviously your thing. During Lockdown I made a video tutorial to help non-artistic people explore art through printing. I have a brain injury, and like you find art an absorbing way to “take you away from yourself”. My fellow brain-injury survivors really enjoy using my easy printing method to make great pictures.

  11. Pooj! Are you sure you arent a secret artist for the Simpsons? These are perfect! Damn girl, I am so proud of you!! 🤩

    1. Aww thanks Mistry! Lol I guess the secret’s out- I’ve been Matt Groening this whole time… I am always inspired by your art and it makes me want to be more artsy 😍💕

    1. Thank you so much! Yes, personally for me CBD oil has been such a lifesaver. My anxiety has significantly decreased after using it regularly.

      1. That’s great news 🙂

That’s awesome! It’s so important to allow our creativity to shine. Quarantine has definitely allowed my creativity to come back. I have been enjoying writing again which I had stopped and overall, I’m a lot more aware of needing to do something creative each week. I think it helps loads with mental health. Keep up the good work!

    1. Thank you! I’m so glad you are getting in touch with your creative side again- it really is extremely beneficial for your mental health to do something creative every once in a while.

  19. your art is fabulous! I hear you, focusing on some creative activities definitely helps!

    1. Thank you and yes it so does!!

  20. Thank you!! I am going to try.🙂

    1. Exercise is definitely helpful!

  26. Your drawings are really great Pooja.
    Weldone 😊

    1. Thank you so much!!

  27. I started imagining this post being read in Marge Simpson’s voice. Lots of things are better if they’re read in her voice.

    1. Or Mr. Burns’s voice 😂

  28. Wow Pooja! Your art looks amazing! I can’t believe you drew those characters on an app! Im totally going to get the painting app so I can creat some backgrounds!

    1. Thank you so much!! You should it’s so fun to just paint without having an end goal but rather just throwing paint around like when we were kids!

      1. Yes that’s exactly what I’m looking for! I can’t find it on the app store :O

        1. Oh no maybe it’s just available on Android.

  29. Before I read the post I actually scrolled down to look at the images… initially I thought it was from Google. It was until I read and realised there was ‘By Pooja’ under all the images. I’m truly amazed. They’re perfect!💚
Glad you found comfort in art. Anxiety can really be a struggle and knowing some of my friends battle with it, still trying to be better, I’m happy you’re doing better too.

    1. Aww thank you so much!! 😊
Anxiety is definitely difficult but I’m glad there are things out there that help control it.

  30. Your description of anxiety is so accurate – my anxiety when I was younger was sometimes completely unmanageable; I’m interested to read about the CBD oil. I enjoy your blog a lot; I feel overwhelmed about things easily so I try not to read too many things at once.

    1. Thank you! Feel free to read it when you are able to. I get overwhelmed if I read too many blogs as well so I understand how you feel.

  31. It’s true about how the brain just shuts up when we concentrate on our art! I do decorative planning and I get in this zone where it’s just me the planner and stickers and it feels great! During quarantine my boyfriend got me and iPad Pro for my birthday and I have been learning to draw and do lettering on the procreate app which I am loving! You did a great job with your drawings!

    1. Ooh both of those sound so fun and I am so glad you’re doing creative stuff too- it really is like a few precious minutes of peace! Thank you!!

  32. Great work, Pooja! I’ve always been blessed with artistic ability. More recently, though, I’ve been cursed with a movement disorder. I’ll look into your suggestions for drawing and painting apps. Maybe they would be a good alternative to using real pencils and brushes. Your Simpsons characters are awesome and I love your enthusiasm.

    1. Thank you so much! I’m so sorry to hear about your disorder and I really hope using apps help you find an alternative to real art.

  33. This is so good! Your art helps you just like cooking and redecorating helps me. I redo room by room when my anxiety kicks in.

    1. Yes cooking and redecorating are so helpful as well!!

  34. Keep on keeping on being awesome. I can definitely see your hard work is paying off I. Your art. Your random paint splash artworks are very cool, and generally just uplifting in the way they kind of sum up 2020.

    1. Thank you so much!!
