No Excuses

As my title foreshadows, I have no excuses. I have been busy today and so I haven’t really had time to come up with a post. Actually that’s not entirely true. I wrote a poem right after I took a big spoonful of cough syrup. I’m genuinely scared I won’t be able to write well once my cough goes away. Anyway, I wrote a poem but I am saving that for next Wednesday. As most of you that have been following my blog know, Wednesday is poetry day.

I know I said no excuses but I have an excuse. I woke up in the morning and as I was browsing through WordPress I found this book review/post. The review is for a book called The Housemaid. As soon as I read the synopsis I knew I had to read it. So instead of spending my free time creating a post for today, I bought the Kindle version and spent a chunk of my afternoon reading it. And all I can say is OH MY GOD!

Once I started reading the book I just could not put it down. It was even better than I thought it would be. I plan on writing a full review for it soon. If you have not read this book, you need to. Like seriously, don’t even finish reading this post. Just read the book! So yeah, I spent most of my afternoon reading and finished the book.

How has your day been? What have you been up to? Let me know in the comments or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. I will check out this book.
I just saw that it’s not available in paperback in India. I generally prefer reading books that way.
    Thank you for sharing this.
Don’t worry for not sharing what you were intended to, the main thing is you have showed up and shared something. Also,
for some reason, I believe you are enjoying this cough syrup of yours 🤪
    Take good care, recover well.

    1. I think if you go to Amazon India you can get it. The link is to Amazon Canada. It’s ₹939 Indian Rupee which is about $11.50 USD. Yeah, I don’t know why Amazon doesn’t have a central link for everything but everything is the same except for the country code, so it’s for India, for France etc. UK is tricky because it’s
      Anyway, I think it’s here:

  2. Wow, she sees everything as a housemaid. How intriguing. And thanks for sharing. Curiously, this Pittsburgh writer doesn’t have a follow button or something similar. However I bookmarked your page, which can always lead me when I come back for more.

  3. I’ve been hanging pictures, a shelf, and other little pretties that I’ve unpacked. Moving is such hard work! All this and having some sort of cold/flu. Yikes! I have to get my storage unit emptied this month so we’re kind of rushing to get it all put away. There is just too much! I am donating so much more than I thought I ever would, but there is a freedom in less stuff!

  4. Reading books is always a fulfilling experience, and we must spare some time to read books daily. Books not only entertain us but also enlighten us.
Will be waiting for your full review of the book, once you have read it.

  5.     I think I have more “no excuses” than you, but I think 10 times 0 is still 0, or something, or maybe such a thing is undefined. I’m supposed to go back into the caves to get advice from Utcoozhoo about writing a conlang. Can’t decide if I should write “in-character.”
This time of year is depressing. Every year our News Media keeps shouting about how it was Black Friday and now Cyber Monday where everything is on sale and there are great bargains, blah, blah, blah. But it makes no difference for me. Every year I see zero sales of my books. Bargains, well, I don’t know what Amazon is doing but from what I can see, they’re putting my old poetry e-book up first on my Author’s page for 99 cents or about a dollar in most currencies. And I went to the German Amazon and they seem to be offering the e-book for free. I bet you that whenever they report the sales next month, it will be zero, and even the free ones will be zero buys. The old e-book is “Greatest Poems of the Early 21st Century: Volume One” ( Kindle Edition). I’m not even sure I can find my paperback version that’s in the closet somewhere — it was about 500 pages and extremely expensive (2014).
I don’t know if I’ve gotten better since I wrote those. The new ones are different. It seems foolish to write anymore new ones. And some of the political ones won’t be topical for long. I need a bigger trash can for the paperback ones.

  6. Looking forward to reading your review! I’ve stopped reading novels lately because I find them very addictive. Once I start, I can’t put them down. Now that work is so busy, I need to be careful not to be distracted.

  7. I think the whole “no excuses” phrase is overused and cliche. Life doesn’t work the way we want it and it pays dividends to cut yourself some slack. I mean sure you didn’t write that post, but read a really good book! Isn’t this a good thing? I think so.

  8. I also have a book I cannot put down at the moment so I understand. Also, that cough syrup is starting to look like an inspiration-giver or something like that 😂

  9. Sounds very interesting. Really good books that are good reads are hard to come by. Waiting for the review. I am quite sure it will be great. Is that a special kind of cough syrup? Get well soon. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week.
