One Sentence Story #8

Apps That Are Great For Meditation | Sometimes We Miss What's Right In Front Of Us

One Sentence Story:

Eventually you learnt that home isn’t a place, it’s a person.

About the one sentence story:

I don’t know about you guys but for me home isn’t really about where I’m at but rather who I’m with. Some people just have this gift of making you feel at home when you’re with them. You feel comfortable and you feel like you can just be yourself around them. I have been lucky enough to meet a number of people like that in my life. Not a big number but still. I count myself very lucky. That is what this one sentence story stems from.

I guess this was just something I was thinking about today. And I thought I would share it with you guys. Originally this blog was to just share my thoughts and stuff so I still try to do that as much as I can. Even when sometimes it’s something that may not be as significant to others as it is to me.

I know you guys enjoy when I add a little something about my inspiration for my stories and poems. So that’s why I’ve been trying to add that these days. Some of you might connect with it and others may not. Both are totally okay in my opinion.

Do you have someone that makes you feel like you are home every time you are with them? If so, feel free to share who that is. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. Absolutely! Beautiful 😊❤️

    1. Thank you 😊

  2. I love the story, and I know I am lucky to have my home with me, like a snail. I also think that we are looking for those kind of homes in others and eventually find them… Yet are we willing to provide it for others? I am not always up for it. It feels like too much work honestly…

    1. Yeah, I’m definitely not up for it at least not right now with everything else I have going on. But maybe someday.

  3. No. I don’t think home is a person. Too many people are too inconsiderate and fickle and unreasonably unyielding and have difficult to read deal breakers.

I went to a library once and it felt like I was in the right place. So does a gym and the school I go to.

I’ve yet to find someone who does that. People make me happy though.

    1. Well, I don’t think those people are home but maybe you’ll meet the perfect person someday that makes you feel like that. For me it’s my best friend. Anywhere I am with her just feels perfect.

      1. ☺️ I hope so, but I’m struggling finding good friends right now.

        1. Yeah, it’s not always easy and it gets harder the older you get but keep looking and eventually you’ll find the right people.

          1. Hopefully, I’m thinking that it’ll never happen and I want to give up, but I guess it’ll be ok.

            1. Yeah, don’t give up. It’ll be okay you’ll meet true friends at some point.

  4. Absolutely agree.
My story: You heart never finds a home until your soul finds the right heart to nestle into.

    1. I love your story too, and I definitely agree.

      1. Ahhh great minds! 😉

        1. Well, I can’t disagree with that 😅

  5. Definitely! She’s a really great friend who I appreciate very much. it’s almost scary how identical we are.

    1. That’s amazing and it’s like that for me and my best friend too!

  6. Definitely. After my mother died, the house where my father lived was no longer my home. After my father died, it was simply a piece of real estate that I was more than happy to sell and walk away from forever.

    1. Yeah, I think it just feels like home because of the person. Otherwise, it’s just another property.

  7. I love your poetic way of redefining what home is. There is a feeling of comfort and acceptance of genuine unconditional love in how I see home whether a person, people or places. Going within in meditation, contemplation, prayer gives me that even deeper feeling of home. 💖✨

    1. Thank you so much 😊 Yes, I love that feeling of comfort and just being able to be my authentic self. And that definitely does help make the feeling of home stronger.

  8. A complete story in one sentence. Lovely, Pooja.

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  9. Yes, I agree. On the opposite side, we can say that sometimes we don’t feel at home with somebody we know for years and years. I recently got to know something that really shocked me. Two people have looked like they were the best friends for years. Then one didn’t tell the other about his illness. It really bothered me. Then I guess I don’t want to judge people, who always have their own considerations.

    1. That’s true, sometimes we don’t really connect with people even when we’ve known them for years. That’s how I feel about some of my cousins that I’ve known since childhood.

      1. Me too. Now I know it’s because of the narcissism of my maternal grandma who poisoned our family tree. Everybody is walking on egg shells and nobody is connecting with anybody.

        1. Yes, just one narcissist alone can do so much damage.

          1. Yes, one narcissist (my grandma) brought up 9 narcissistic children of varied degree of narcissism and at least 4 narcissistic grandkids who are in close contact with her. Narcissism is a mental infection and it can spread exponentially…

            1. Yes, I think narcissism can be given to kids either through nature or nurture. It’s really hard to not become a narcissist when you’re around narcissists from when you’re born.

              1. Even people who have mildly narcissistic parents are affected. I recently talked to a friend whose parents are very good ones, but who still have mildly narcissistic traits in them… Wait, I am going to write a post about it to talk about how her decision was affected by her mildly narcissistic parents. She still doesn’t believe that her parents are narcissistic. You know it is hard to detect the mild narcissists since they are even more hidden…

                1. And mild narcissists can often blend in well with normal people. Like you would never know until you have certain experiences. I look forward to reading about her story.

  10. Beautiful post.
Some people’s aura is as warm as home 🥰

    1. Thanks and yes that’s so true 😊

  11. Nicely penned! Oh yas, and that person is Snowy ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ (my pet cat).
Also, I think, my home is not really a HOME ANYMORE because it’s a ZOO where different kinds of animals live HAPPILY. I’d consider my MOM as Lion, DAD as a cat and Snowy is like a SHY COW even though she’s a cat. And I’m just like a RAT 🐁.
    LOL

    1. 😆
      🦁🐈🐄🐀

    2. Haha I think that’s a very fun way of looking at your family!

  12. Your one-sentence story beautifully captures the essence of what home truly means. You have rightly said, it’s not just a physical place, but rather the people who make you feel safe, loved, and accepted.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, it’s about feeling safe and happy with someone.

  13. Home is made with it’s people!!!

  14. Or a group of people!

    1. Yup it can be more than one person too!

  15. I too always feel at home when at home. Spending time with family, especially my youngest daughter is a real fun. She asks so many questions and always keeps me engaged.

    1. That’s so sweet. It’s definitely fun to spend time with kids.

  16. heart is tis
    gist
    and this is ma fist
    oh gosh

    1. Oh gosh indeed.

      1. uh huh. i ll have soup with that please y all!

  17. Being in nature and being with those I love, and being with my besties gives me the feeling of home. Going home to the church where I grew up, also gives me the feeling of home. When I am there it feels like I have never left. The feeling of home warms my heart when I think about my heavenly home that Jesus is preparing just for me someday. Thanks for sharing. Very nice one sentence story. Have a great week.

    1. That is so wonderful. Thank you and have a great week too.

      1. You’re welcome.

  18. Home dreaming, you putting your face in my hand to be caressed by me, your cheek like a cloud, the face of fluffy dove love, a silly bird you, chirping about our day where we flirted with the sunny dallies of the romps to absurd, chaos love, random folly love that laughed so much of us telling me how you were, knowing every joke of you, every joy, having our music in cheeky songs and dovey opera, our daily berry and feather tickles, dreaming, home dreaming, I’d ask that when you are flying home that you would say hello to the sky, lift our blues, and bringing home the peace, hearing as you do a song of heaven, do come home to share this with me and read me a story because I love you now as before in the dream home we built together.

    1. That’s a beautiful one sentence story with a lot of sadness too. Sometimes we’re haunted by memories.

  19. this is so true Pooja! I love that feeling.. Home is when essence is pure and eyes are clear and ears are open and hearts speak, not words. love this

  25. Absolutely, Couldn’t think of a better explanation.

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  26. My boyfriend is one of those persons for me. He makes every other ‘relationship’ or ‘dating’ phase I had before feel so trivial in comparison. I have a few other friends and 2 relatives who let me feel like this too. Home is definitely a feeling for me too, not a place

    1. That’s so nice. It’s really hard to meet someone like that and it’s great you were able to.

  27. This is true!

    1. Thanks and that’s so nice 😊

    1. Thanks so much.

  31. So deep, I 100% relate with this…my home is my bestie, she is so amazing.

    1. Thanks so much and same here, my bestie is always my home.

      1. Ooh wow, seems it feels amazing to have a bestie, whats your best experience with your bestie?

          3. +254 795400380, thats my number,lets chat on whatsapp

  32. Hi! There are a few people like that for me. One in particular I’m thinking of is my one-year-old grandson as I spend all day on Thursdays with him. 1. Aw that’s so sweet. I’m sure you two have a very special bond.

  39. Thank you for sharing, I am very happy to hear you have some special people in your life. As for me, dogs have always been what makes me feel my place was a home. Some of us are people persons, and some of us are animal persons. As long as you are happy, that is what matters the most

    1. I think I am both because I like people but I like animals too. Although I’m more of a cat person than a dog person.

      1. I have found ladies seem to be more cat people than dog people here as well, I love all animals even the wild ones. I think they all are just beautiful in their own way, even though some scare me. (ha, ha )

                    1. True, they look a little like defrosted chicken lol.

                    2. A very good example you share about them
