Quotes Of Encouragement

What’s Up With Me?

I wanted to share these quotes of encouragement because I also needed them myself. Today, I had my first in-person therapy session in a long time. For the last few years I’ve been doing them online. But recently I felt as though having in-person sessions would be more beneficial. And I was right. I went to a new therapist as my last one only offers online sessions.

The good news is that this new therapist is amazing. She’s probably the best therapist I have spoken to both here in Kenya and in Canada. And she’s very affordable and located close by. She charges the equivalent of $22 (3000ksh). The bad news is, she gave me homework lol. Just kidding, I don’t mind. She told me to journal daily which I’m going to start doing today.

I think the best part of todays session was that I finally feel like I’m not crazy for feeling the way I do. Her validating my feelings and experiences really helped. Sometime you don’t need someone to solve your problems, you just need them to listen. I don’t know how to explain it but I somehow feel lighter already. I even got inspired to work on my book after the session even though I’ve been having writers block lately. Hopefully, I can put some money aside and have another session soon.

What I’m listening to at the moment:

  1. Great quote selection Pooja. I’m glad you clicked with your therapist. That’s a very important first step. All the best my friend

    1. Thank you so much, I’m really glad you enjoyed them. I absolutely agree and I’m glad we clicked too. I think she’s exactly what I was looking for.

  2. I liked all the quotes! And I’m so happy to hear that you like your new therapist. I think listening deeply is the best attribute of a good therapist. Sounds like you felt heard and validated. Maybe your feelings of lightness have to do with knowing you won’t have to figure it all on your own. Love The Chicks – although that song was new to me. Am going to see them and Ben Harper 8/10 in Hershey, PA!

        1. I’m about an hour from Hersey, in New Jersey.
I meant Hersey in general. The town is so cute and I absolutely love the hotel, the grounds are beautiful. This was several years ago, it may have changed.
Are you in PA or NJ?

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quotes, thanks! Yeah, she definitely heard me out and was very non-judgemental which really helped.
Omg so cool, I love The Chicks and would love to see them live some day. This is one of their newer songs but it’s one of my favourites.

  3. Loved the quotes and yes we do need to have someone to use as a sounding board as we face our problems in life and we all have them. A friend is always preferable to listen.

  4. Good on you. I am entering a new chapter in life and with all that stuff. Seen enough good and not as good to know the value, and also what to adopt and practice in my everyday. Am a big believer that discipline is all about being internalised so we do it for ourself and are happy to be responsible for ourselves

  5. I like the quote by nina simone, leaving the table is a great metaphor. I am happy to hear you’ve found a new therapist, you left the table to find a better gig, good for you Pooj! I just came back from the woods camping in Washington which was delightful.

    1. That was my favourite quote this week. I think it just made so much sense for me.
Thanks so much! That sounds so wonderful. Camping is so fun.

  6. Hi! I really liked the quote about not wishing your life away. Kind of like staying in the present moment. Glad to read that your session went well and that you are feeling inspiration from it. Take good care.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, that quote is really great and definitely makes sense. Living in the present is so vital and wasting your life obsessed with the future helps no one.

  7. Lovely and encouraging quotes, Pooja.
I especially like this one….it has that touch of reality.
“Sometime you don’t need someone to solve your problems, you just need them to listen” 😉

    great share🤍

      1. … and with this unpredictable weather patterns, these blue moons are appearing more often than seldom 😉

        most welcome, Pooja 🤍

  8. Love your quotes Pooja and yay for a new in person therapist that’s awesome and didn’t break the bank. Love you are journaling and moving forward on your book. 👏👏👏👏💗

  9. That’s great ! Love the quotes, I’m ready to just enjoy my time as much as possible and stop wishing for “better” times.

  10. I totally agree with you Pooja. Sometimes we only need a person to listen to us carefully instead of giving us a solution. I really liked the second quote coz we often forget to enjoy the life in the busyness of the world. Take care, Pooja. 🌻

  11. Wonderful that you are seeing a therapist. Invaluable experience. A lot of people are ashamed to do so. Simply sharing has probably given someone the courage to prioritize their mental health.
I loved all the quotes..but I’m biased to anything Nina Simone. She was a rebel, a little eccentric, but profound.
Good luck with birthing that book baby. Always here to support in anyway we can. 👏👏

    1. Thanks so much. I agree, sharing our own mental health journeys helps encourage others and that’s why I try to be as transparent about it as possible.
I know what you mean, Nina Simone is so cool. I absolutely adore her.

      1. I also thinking something about

        Psychology

Not needing one, but becoming one 🙂
I’m doing a course on it.

You said thank you for what?
Calling you beautiful? Which you obviously are

Or telling you to take care ? 😁

Some some good food, do what’s best for you and be good
        🤗🤗🤗

        1. One of my friends is a psychologist. And I studied it for a few years but ended up majoring in history. It’s a very good line to get into.
          Again, thanks 😊

            1. One of my cousins also went back to college to do a course in counselling. I think it’s a good idea if you feel like you can help people.

  12. That second quote about enjoying life is such an important one. A lot of 1st world culture (no matter the country) is based on people being discontented and wanting “more”. If we learn to be content with what we have and where we are in life, we really CAN enjoy life. I’ve been re-learning this lesson over the last 2 years and sometimes it can be a daily thing.

And speaking of daily things. I am wicked glad to hear you are being encouraged to journal every day. It is like taking a multi-vitamin. You don’t necessarily notice when you are taking it, but if you stop, the lack will eventually show up in bad ways. Also, there are some wicked good looking journals out there. Personally, I use the paperblanks lined embellished manuscript line of journals. They are good quality and they LOOK good too 😀 If you do start journaling regularly, you should show us some pix of the journal you use….

    1. I couldn’t agree more. In the world we live in, we focus so much on gaining more. More wealth, more material stuff, more everything. But the best way to enjoy life is to be content and grateful for what we do have.

I’m excited for journaling. For now, I’m using an old notebook but when I buy a cute new one I’ll share pics 😊

  13. Glad to hear you found a new helpful therapist.
All the quotes resonated with me.
I liked what you said about needing someone just to listen sometimes.
I have been working on my ongoing story and feel it has stalled and is floating along like a stinky dead fish this week. 🙃

  14. I always laugh when I see a currency in which a hamburger costs 10,000. There has to be a way to fix that. I’m
    No economist lol.

Anyway, I’m glad you got into in person therapy! I’ve been doing it for 6 years and it’s helped so much. Even the therapists I’ve had who kind of sucked made me feel a little better when I got to get things off my chest.

    1. Lol, hamburgers here cost 500-1000 😅

Thanks so much! Yeah, just getting stuff off your chest helps so much. I really enjoyed this session and look forward to my next one.

  15. I think all the quotes together tell a story, and it looks like your choosing your empowerment. Good on you for finding a new therapist and listening to your inner voice that told you it would be a good idea. It’s amazing how the connection with someone who seems to get us really helps. Loving the idea of journaling. Keep going!

    1. Thanks so much. I’m so glad I ended up finding this therapist because even one session helped so much. I look forward to more sessions with her. We definitely connected well.

    1. Yes, dirt cheap in the USA!!!
Most therapists here don’t take insurance and cost at least $200 per hour. Thank goodness my husband, family, and friends are all good listeners!
A way around it though, hire a tarot reader. Whether you believe or not, they are cheaper and for a half hour it’s all about you. I spent $80 on one last week and she was remarkable. I felt like a brand new person after talking to her! 🙂

    2. Haha yes, healthcare is more affordable here in comparison but still expensive for most Kenyans due to the minimum wage being so low. Thanks so much.

  16. Congratulations on your therapy session and journal!
Glad you are feeling better, getting the feelings out is so important. (Even feelings of happiness!)

    1. Oh good, so glad to hear that. I think for the most part the issue is resolved since my numbers are back to normal for email opens/clicks too.

  17. I love the quote by A.A. Milne. I am glad your therapist is helpful to you, Pooja, and the price seems rasonable. One of my favorite quotes – “Every storm runs out of rain.” ― Maya Angelou

  18. I’m so glad to hear that your first session with the new therapst was so good. Feeling lighter and more inspired after somehow sounds just right. I’ve been looking for a new counselor since I lost the person who helped me for years. (Cancer.)

    1. Thanks so much. It was honestly the best possible experience I could have had and I’m so glad I decided to go.
I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope you find a good one.

  19. I find these quotes incredibly encouraging in their own ways. Continuous motivation and encouragement are vital in our lives, thus making these quotes extremely handy.

It seems like you had a very positive experience with your new therapist! Validation and support can be incredibly empowering, helping us overcome our morbid thoughts. It’s heartening to hear that you feel inspired to work on your book again after the therapy session.

    1. Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the quotes. I agree, motivation and encouragement are vital. Especially when we’re feeling down.

Yes, I did. It was such a great experience. I look forward to my next session.

  20. I am glad you have a therapist my fellow Jedi 🙂
The quote about leaving the table when love is no longer being served makes me think about being careful of toxic relationships

  21. Been having the toughest time of my life so far. Therapy is such a taboo over here. No one seems to agree with me if I tell them about my mental health. Even if they agreed, whom would I trust? I trust no therapist here. I tried few and none of them were for me. They might be good but not for me. All they do is put you on high drugs (I’m talking about psychiatrists) and then you wouldn’t be able to work normally. Sorry for the long rant. But I got my trust broken once again recently so it’s worse now.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s true that in many places mental health is such a taboo and it’s difficult to find help. I don’t like taking drugs for my mental health either. I tried them and they didn’t work for me at all. Stay strong and keep working on yourself. I really hope things get better for you soon. And if you ever need to talk don’t hesitate to reach out.

  22. They’re all great quotes, Pooja, but I love the first one the best. And it’s good that you have a new therapist who you really like. I’m sure that makes a big difference. And I’ve been journaling for decades, so enjoy and don’t skip a word. Write it all down. Writing is therapy. Love the song too! 🌻

  23. Those are great quotes. The second one resonates most with me. I think it’s easy to fall into a habit of waiting on life, rather than living life.

      1. I have found that sometimes you end up looking back on the era where you were waiting on life to happen in a certain way, as the good old days, wishing you had lived in those moments a little more fully.

  24. Love the last quote, “leave the table when love is no longer served.” I hope everybody learns to do that and don’t linger just because one was trained to love people who don’t love one back. I think many men understand this so much better than women do. Women continue no matter what and give themselves a false merit award for doing this.

    1. I absolutely agree with you. I think women tend to stay much longer than men in loveless relationships. But luckily, it seems this is changing now and more women are open to leaving when they no longer feel loved.

  25. The quotes are beautiful, I liked especially Marjorine’s—it’s not uncommon to postpone living for another day and that’s sad. Thanks for sharing.
I’m reading this a little later but I hope you’re still in a good mood and enthused to work on your book.

    1. Yes, I’m still feeling good. Thank you. And glad you enjoyed the quotes. It’s true that many of us are unable to live in the moment as we postpone things for the future.

  26. Good to hear that your session helped. It is a nice thing when someone reassures you when you are feeling off. I hope that better things start to flow for you Pooj.
