I Just Got Robbed…

a person with handcuffs | I Just Got Robbed

I just got robbed today… but the robber was so adorable I had to forgive him and move on with my life. Okay, now for the full story. This afternoon I was sitting at home minding my own business when I saw a monkey eating my bananas on the kitchen counter! He must have come in through our window after seeing the fruits in our kitchen. He was nicely sitting there enjoying the banana but I scared him when I walked in and he scared me lol. So he dropped the peel on the floor (no, no one slipped on the peel comedically like in cartoons), took the rest of the bananas and went to eat them outside.

I live in Kenya so this was no surprise. There’s a group of monkeys that lived in our area for years. They were so cute but I haven’t seen them recently. These days there’s only like a handful of monkeys in our area. I guess this one was hungry and saw some delicious bananas. He was so adorable but I don’t get too close to monkeys because they like to scratch. Even if they’re stealing your fruit lol. I also don’t mind them taking my fruit. But the annoying thing is that they’re obviously not very clean and make a mess. And if they get used to it they break into your house regularly and make quite a mess so you have to be careful.

Here’s a little video of him enjoying the last banana.

So, I just got robbed but I’m not mad- hope he enjoyed the bananas!

Interesting post. Hope it doesn’t become a habit. How does one stop monkeys from breaking in through an open window?

    1. I too am interested to an answer to this.

      1. The only way to stop them is to keep your windows closed when you’re not in the room. If you’re in there they won’t come in.

        1. Thanks!
I’m guessing that’s not a good option, as it would stop any cooling cross breezes…

          1. No that’s not really an issue here. The weather is rarely too hot (like maybe a couple of days out of the year) so having a window or windows closed makes no difference. It’s always cool inside.

    2. Thanks so much. The only way to stop them is to keep your windows closed when you’re not in the room. If you’re there they won’t come in.

  2. Girlllllllll you had me going for a second! LOL
How cute is that though, Monkeys are so adorable, scary but adorable!

    1. Lol yeah, they’re so cute but definitely scary- they can scratch you if they get agitated!

      1. They are so strong

        1. They are, they could literally kill you if they wanted to.

  3. Wow Pooja, I saw your title and opened the page right away! I’m glad that you weren’t actually robbed. I would freak out seeing a monkey in my house!

    1. Yes, thankfully it was a friendly robbery lol. I almost fell over backwards when I saw it lol!

  4. 😯 You worried the hell out of me when I read the title of your blog post, Pooja.

Thank goodness you were only monkeying around.

    1. Haha yes, thankfully 😅

  5. Aww, adorable.

    1. It really was.

  6. Oh nice that he got bananas 💕. Title got me but I’m happy you weren’t really robbed 😀

    1. Haha yes, I don’t mind that he took the bananas at all. He seemed to enjoy them 😅

  7. Oh what a surprise for you. When I was a wee girl, my great-granny had a pet monkey. He & I had a love/hate relationship. He loved to startle & scare me… I hated that.

    1. Aw haha, that’s adorable. Monkeys do like to startle people, not sure why lol.

  8. Well, he seems a happy fellow in the video. Your bananas made his day as well as your genial attitude. Unless he were aggressive, I doubt I’d have the heart to excoriate him, either. But you are wise enough to know that there are issues pro and con should this continue. But what do I know–maybe you’ll become primate friends. Thanks for sharing this encounter. Yes, the monkey looks cute. That’s the thing with most mammals: they are adorable. Be well, all in your house.

    1. Yes, he’s a friend now since he steals from us every couple of months. The monkeys here aren’t aggressive in general but if you get too close (even to feed them) they scratch so you have to be really careful. Thanks so much.

  9. Gotta love wildlife for sure.

    1. Absolutely, this one was particularly adorable.

  10. I’ve only been robbed by a monkey once and that was when I was on holidays on a mountain town in South India called Kodaikanal. We usually locked up our bungalows tightly when going down to the lake for boating or horse riding but somehow forgot and left the little ventilation window above the front door partly open. The monkey found that vulnerable spot and cleaned up our banana supply too. At least he left the skins behind for us. 🙂

    1. Haha yeah, you have to be extra careful when monkeys are around. They always try to find a way in.

      1. To make it worse it peed on the letter I’d been in the process of writing to my mother in Australia before we went out to the lake so had to do a massive cleanup as well. I declared war on the monkey tribe after that 🙂

        1. Omg, that’s awful. That monkey may have had a personal grudge haha.

If your country had a more active nuclear weapons program for defense purposes. incidents like this wouldn’t exist.☢️

    1. That’s what I’ve been saying… 😅

  12. aaaw… so cute.
they tend a make a habit of coming in once they start 😬 lol we have to keep our fruit out of sight 🤭

    1. That’s the problem, we always have to hide the fruit and be careful. He even came back the next day looking for more but we had the windows closed lol 😝

      1. hidden or closed windows… we too lol😬

  13. I’m having a Raider of the Lost Ark flashback lol
    That’s awesome!!

    1. Lol yeah, it’s awesome minus having to disinfect everything which is annoying 😅

      1. I can see where that would be a drawback, yes. 😄

        1. Literally the only drawback of having a monkey steal your fruits 😅

          1. Unless you are in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Then the monkey leads the enemy right to you and you end up getting kidnapped by power hungry tyrants 😄

            1. Every day I’m thankful I’m not Indiana Jones, with the amount of monkeys here I would be captured immediately 😅

              1. Better the monkeys than those damned snakes! 😄

  14. Not that’s life lol

    1. Lol it is.

  15. What an awesome story! Thanks for the video!

    1. Thanks so much!

  16. i want a banana now. sharing is caring. 🙂

    1. Haha well, I’m out thanks to the little thief. He was so cute though I can’t be mad 😅

  17. The headline hooked me in.

Glad it was a friendly robbing. 🙂

You are so kind. I think you made a new friend.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Haha yes, a very friendly robber. He’s an old friend because he’s been stealing from us for years now but it had been a while so it was nice to see him again. Not so fun to clean up after him and disinfect everything though lol.

  18. Must have been an experience there, thanks for sharing.

    1. It really was, thanks.

  19. Wonder video and loved it the wait little thief was eating. Most adorable thief for whom you can’t even complain.

    1. Haha yeah, too cute to be mad at.

    1. A cute little thief lol!

  20. The sad decline of wildlife seems to be a universal phenomenon. So sad. Love monkeys!!

    1. Yes, the monkeys have become so few these days. It’s a shame.

  21. Oh yikes, Pooja, I got scared from your title that you had a horrible robbery incident. Thank goodness it was a cute little monkey stealing some healthy produce. lol.

    1. Yes, thankfully it was just this cute little monkey haha!

  22. I was a bit worried when I saw the title.. but LoL 😂 this is an interesting incident 😄

    1. Lol yeah, thankfully the robber was friendly and adorable 😅

  23. Hope he doesn’t go tell his monkey gang he’s found an easy mark and they come back in the middle of the night and rob you blind 😉

    1. He came back the next day but thankfully we were prepared lol 😅

  24. Don’t they also carry their share of diseases?! I would’ve passed out completely from panic. Lol.

He or she’s a cutie, though!

    1. Yesss, they do and we had to disinfect everything in the kitchen because of that! Lol, he’s robbed us before so I was startled but not too scared. Honestly, I think he was more scared than I was 😅 He’s a he and very cute for sure although if you get too close he will scratch 😮

      1. Yeah, no, thank you. 🤣😆😂

        1. Yup, best to not have them touch anything you own lol 😂

  25. Really interesting, big suspense in the beginning of the post becoz you got robbed, then a fun ride. I think you are in a mood to write a thriller story after watching Saltburn. 👏👏👏

    1. Thanks so much, haha yes except this was a true story 😅

      1. That’s funny😂

  26. Congratulation on making a new friend.

    1. Thanks, this friend particularly adorable.

  27. Well that’s one thing you won’t see in the Midwest!!! I’m just curious…don’t you have screens? We do because in the summer the mosquitoes would eat you alive without them!

    1. No, we have screens on the main windows outside but not the windows in the house. Mosquitos aren’t so bad here so it’s not an issue!

  28. That is just too cute! 😍

    1. He is (until you get too close and he tries to scratch you lol) 😊

  29. Another top notch clickbait title from Pooja. 😂 Well, this one is technically true even though animals can’t be convicted of crimes. Although if any animal could be, it’d be a primate! That’s really cute, though. I love monkeys even though I know in the wild they’re basically feral sociopaths.

    1. That’s why they call me the queen of clickbait 😅 True, monkeys are so naughty and also greedy like humans. Often they steal fruit and waste quite a bit of it. They like to steal just because they can. And of course, they do scratch like crazy if you get too close even when you’re just trying to feed them 🫣

      1. That’s how a lot of zombie stories begin, be careful!

        1. If I ever publish a post called 5 Benefits Of Eating Brains you’ll know I’ve been turned lol 😜

  30. Monkey! They do scare me

    1. Yeah, they can be pretty dangerous although cute from a safe distance!

  31. I’ve read stories of places that forbid visitors from feeding monkeys because the monkeys become dependent and aggressive. He is adorable though.

    1. Yeah that’s the problem, if you feed them even once they come everyday and become dependent on humans which isn’t great for them. It’s best not too feed them. Yes, he is really adorable.

  32. Aha
    Interesting post PooG

    Your monkey’s are different
    They look cute

Our monkeys or Indian monkeys are kinda scary, but black face are decent ones, red face are scary, thieves and can even harm.

    Here they travel in groups
    1 male or leaders
And his tribe that includes females.
So 1 male and many females with kids 😜

I don’t like them, they always ruin are garden
    Eat rose 🌹 , Brinjal ( can’t insert emoji)
    Guavas

But then they are hungry, and no other things to eat 🤷🏻‍♂️

    They like fresh chapati
Don’t want or eat stale chapati.
    Don’t want or eat bread.

They don’t like mango, etc 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I don’t know why I’m telling you this 😛

    Great post buddy

    You are lovely writer

    1. That’s so interesting. The ones here are dangerous as well even if they look cute. They bite and scratch if you get too close to them. They tend to also ruin a lot of stuff if they break into your house. Like we had to disinfect the kitchen because of this one. The ones here love mango, this same one stole one of my sisters mangoes once lol 😂

      1. Ohh cool!!
I’ll share a video of me standing between the tribe of monkeys!

Female are calm and protective of their child
While the male ( leader) could be aggressive. They tolerate human presence only for some time.

Overall great post PooG, misleading title 🫣

        1. Ooh cool, I’d love to see that.

Oh I see, yeah here too the male monkeys tend to be a bit more aggressive.

          Lol thanks 😅

  33. Whoa! Your title had me worried. Pooja. I wouldn’t want a monkey in my house though I think they are very cute.

    1. Yeah, they’re so cute but so destructive so definitely don’t want them in the house.

  34. Ha, all this monkey business, I’m glad you are not going to press charges

    1. Haha yes, just monkeying around so no need to get the law involved.

  35. You got me too … LOL, almost went bananas !! <3

    1. Haha yes, just me monkeying around! 😅

  36. So cute! Once it doesn’t happen too often I suppose my reaction would be the same 😆

    1. It came back the next day hoping to steal more fruit but we were prepared this time lol 😜 Still cute though!

  37. He is cute so give him a pass. LOL

    1. Haha yeah, we let him enjoy the bananas since he’s so adorable lol.

  38. Wow, you had me scared for you for a moment. But yes, be careful around the wild animals even when they are doing something cute.

    1. Yeah, I’ve seen monkeys scratch people even those that feed them so I’m always extra careful not to get too close.

  39. What a treat for you to see the monkey. But I can see how you can’t encourage him to be a frequent visitor. Cute story, Pooja.

    1. Yes, he was so cute but it’s best to not get them used to coming inside as they’re very destructive by nature.

  40. A surprise visit…your post reminds me of New Delhi…where monkeys used to pass by just like that…n then we’d first smile (coz it’s kinda cute) & then later freak out 😅

    1. Haha yes, we have the same reaction here. It’s cute at first but later we have to make sure it doesn’t come back lol 😂

  41. That’s brilliant

    1. It was a nice treat, I hadn’t seen him in ages.

  42. Always fun. That is great.

    1. Thanks so much.

  43. Oh, I love this!! Imagine living somewhere where random monkeys just walk into your kitchen and steal your bananas…so cool!

    1. Haha yeah, they do that a lot here! This one steals from us every few months 😅

  44. Wow, that’s something I never see. We get deer in the yard eating our roses.

    1. Oh nice, we have deer here too but not in the city so I rarely see any unless I go to the animal park.

  45. There are monkeys in our area also. Sometimes, they get very furious. A few months ago, I was almost attacked by a monkey when I was roaming on the terrace. I managed to save myself somehow. Since that day, I always remain alert.

    1. Yeah, you have to be careful because they tend to do that and attack people for no reason. They do that here too so we always have to be alert.

    1. Thanks 💕

  46. I can’t this is so funny and cute! the only animal that’s ever come into my house to steal food is a squirrel! lo!

    1. Lol, I love squirrels they’re so cute too!

  47. To prevent monkeys from breaking in through an open window, you might consider installing screens or bars over the window openings.

    1. Yes, we have screens on the side the monkeys come in from and that helps but this time we had opened them so that’s how he got in.

  48. I think my heart has been robbed by that video! 😂🤍 too cute.

    1. Right?? So adorable 😭

  49. Poor monkey no bananas in lock up and who gonna bail one out? Your story was a trip part serious and humor and different. Peace

    1. Thanks so much. Haha don’t worry we didn’t press charges.

  50. Great title Pooja. awww I love the little guy and I love them too but not in my house unless they were a pet. you had me laughing😂

    1. Thanks so much. Haha yeah, they’re so cute but not so much when they sneak into the house. Even as a pet I hear they cause too much of a mess 😅

      1. I bet that’s true. It’s like anything else.. we don’t have them so they’re novel to me. Everyone loves the deer and I’m like yes they are very cool; in someone else’s garden thank you very much!!
        😉💕

        1. Lol, that’s understandable I wouldn’t want deer chewing up my plants either 😅

          1. Thank you… most people don’t get it but goodness … ha!

  51. Your title definitely captured my attention. A curious monkey just couldn’t resist tasting a banana. Living in America, I have never experienced a monkey except in captivity. Thanks for sharing this delightful post as well as adding the video.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, the monkey couldn’t resist and enjoyed three bananas lol. Glad you enjoyed the post, I thought it would be amusing for those of you that don’t have such experiences.

      1. Wow! Three bananas.

        1. Haha yes, it had a good day!

  52. You may have scared him, But not enough to leave the Bananas behind. We have a squirrel that does the same thing if you don’t watch your lunch. 🤣🙃😎

    1. Lol, if anything he scared me. He visits and steals food from time to time so I don’t think he was scared and was happy to take all our bananas. Lol squirrels are cute but very naughty too 😅

      1. But squirrels are tasty when you catch him at it 🤣🙃😎

  53. That’s a much better story than I was expecting from the title. Great video!

    1. Haha yeah, thankfully the robber was adorable!

  54. That’s funny though appreciable

    1. Glad you enjoyed it.

      1. Appreciate that 😊

  55. Lol lovely post.

    1. Haha thanks.

      1. Are you still posting on YouTube?

        1. Yeah, I am.

          1. I went to check out your videos. They are lovely and short. You have great quality. I will find time and like all your videos. I hope interacting with other creators on YouTube has as much impact on your channels growth like on WordPress. I am struggling here on WordPress, I can’t like, subscribe and comment on posts from the reader panel. It’s making my experience terrible.

            1. I really appreciate that, thanks so much. Yes, I’m trying to interact as much as possible on YouTube and it does help but it’s more time consuming that WordPress.
So sorry to hear that. Have you considered moving/transferring your account to a new WordPress.com account? I had the same issues as you but that fixed it completely. If you need help with it, let me know. I know the process since I did it too.

              1. I haven’t considered that but I just found that liking from my phone app and everything works just fine.

                1. Oh good, I’ve heard a lot of people have that issue where the app works well but the desktop version doesn’t.

                  1. I hope WordPress is aware of this

                    1. I think they are but honestly I don’t think they care that much.

  56. Hahaha a cute monkey eating your bananas! How smart of him! When I read your title, I just got robbed, I panicked, lol! xo

    1. Lol thanks, yeah the robber was too adorable to be mad at!
