He held me tight
The desperation obvious on both our faces
Holding my breath
I held him just as tightly
As he held me
Tonight all our worries would be forgotten
Because
My cowboy was here tonight
And till noon
He would be mine
Our troubles drowned in whiskey
The sheriff would have to wait
Because this outlaw
Was mine tonight
About “Mine Tonight”:
I want to thank Kevin once more for providing the image (and prompt) for tonights poem. For those of you who don’t know, he has No Theme Thursday posts up every Thursday and on these posts he provides images you can use as prompts for any sort of writing. Today, I really had no idea what I was going to be writing. I generally post poetry on Tuesdays but today my mind was just blank. Thankfully, Kevin’s post came to the rescue. If you’re not already familiar with his blog, check it out by clicking here.
For those of you that don’t know, I listen to a lot of country music. So, I guess that’s what this poem is inspired by. And it sort of looks like the cover of a romance novel so I guess that was partly the inspiration too. Either way, I hope you enjoyed “Mine Tonight.”
What did you think of the poem? What do you see in the image when you look at it? Create your own story behind the image in the comments below! Let me know your thoughts in the comments section. Or simply stop by and say hi!
