Things I Love About WordPress

photography of woman using laptop | Things I Love About WordPress

I’ve been quite a bit critical about WordPress recently. And although I stand by those words, I think WordPress also has a lot of great things to offer users. I promise I’m not saying that under duress lol. Anyway, here are some things I love about WordPress:

The Community

Of course, I have to start with the community. That’s what I think keeps most of us still using this platform. This has to be one of the best communities on the internet. Usually, the internet is filled with negativity and trolls. But people here are surprisingly kind, caring and supportive.

It Allows Me To Express Myself

I think compared to social media platforms, WordPress is much better for expressing oneself. I find social media to be more about images and videos rather than actual writing. So, if you’re like me and enjoy the writing/content creation aspect I think this platform would work much better.

I also think that this platform provides genuine feedback from your audience. On social media, I’ve noticed that the interactions are much more superficial and most people don’t really care about the content you’re posting. Unless it’s quite controversial or something. But here, for the most part, people give really great feedback and actually take the time to go through your content. That’s something I really appreciate about WordPress.

Overall, writing on this platform has been such a great experience. It’s helped my mental health and improved my writing. I don’t think you can find that with other platforms.

Freelancing

WordPress has provided myself and I’m sure many others a platform that allows us to freelance and offer products and/or services to our audience. I’m not someone who would thrive at a traditional 9-5 job and I certainly don’t see myself working with others. I enjoy working for myself and in the comfort of my home. And all that is only possible thanks to WordPress. It gave me a platform that allowed me to grow to the extent that I can offer my services and help others grow too. If it wasn’t for WordPress I don’t know where I would be or what I would be doing today. Having studied history, I don’t have a large amount of work prospects but thanks to this platform I’m doing what I love every day.

Conclusion

So, those are the things I love about WordPress. And the reasons I am going to be here till this platform shuts down. Or my body shuts down, lol.

  1. Community as you said is number one. I also enjoy being able to freely express myself. I do prefer it to social media, as I’m into reading and writing and I’m not a huge fan of videos and irrelevant content. It’s a time waster. WP allows me to. Be constructive with my time, either improving my game, or supporting others.
    Lovely post, Pooja G. 🙏

    1. Absolutely, the community we have here is amazing. True, WP has more constructive and informative content compared to social media. Thanks so much.

  2. Yes, the community. Comments are so kind. I love being able to process what I’m thinking, writing it down, putting it out there and knowing somebody will read it. I’m not on many others so don’t have a whole lot to compare it with. Thanks for sharing, Pooja!

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, the community and social aspect of WP is the best. And we can share real content here.

  3. I totally agree, Pooja, the people here are a wonderful community and this is why I have stayed here for many years actually. There simply isn’t another platform that can get close to WordPress.

As you mentioned, social media such as Instagram is absolutely nothing like WordPress but I do have many friends there from many countries. Great post, Pooja! ❤️

    1. Thanks so much! Absolutely, the community is amazing here and I haven’t found anything like it on other platforms. I like my IG friends too which is why I stay but I really have very little faith in that platform. It’s going down fast. Compared to WP, I really can’t stand IG these days.

      1. Yep, IG basically sucks. It used to be fun! Hi from Florida. ❤️❤️

        1. Oh nice, how’s the weather like there?

          1. Threatening rain, windy and around 75 degrees which is actually nice. I hope your day was great Pooja! 🤙🏻❤️

            1. That’s quite warm, enjoy! ❤️

              1. Yes! 😊❤️❤️

  4. 🙂 I agree with everything that you published in that blog post of yours.

The WordPress community is absolutely wonderful. They are supportive of each other.

And, one of the things that I like about WordPress is its advancements; it is, in my opinion, one of the most modern blogging platforms around.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, the community is amazing. I’m so thankful for it. True, it’s been improving in some ways that I don’t see in other platforms.

  5. Except for freelancing, I fully agree with you Pooja! It’s a wonderful place to express ourselves and to connect with people all over the world

    1. Thanks so much! Absolutely, lots of wonderful people on this platform that I am thankful for.

      1. Yes indeed. Same here ❤️😍

  6. Pooja, agree 100% about the community. For the very large part, people here are artistic, friendly and very cool 😎

    1. Thanks so much, True, for the most part people here are really nice and have great content.

  7. Like you, first and foremost, I love the community, the support I get on here is second to none, and its all thanks to my amazinb followers, and I also love that it is accessible to the blind, easy to use, and I love that I can post my posts in via email.

    1. Thanks so much! True, people here are so kind and helpful including you as well. It’s also very user-friendly, I agree.

  8. One of the greatest places to express and encounter creative and cool people as yourself Pooja. So many great times with creative connections and laughter here. Much respect and alot of very talented people here. Salute appreciate and respect

    1. Thanks so much. I very much agree, we have lots of great people here like yourself too.

      1. you’re much too kind and I look forward to hearing from you and what you have posted. you certainly inspire, appreciate and respect you

        1. Thanks so much.

          1. you know you are cool peeps

  9. My school banned it so I have to use mobile Internet to see what’s going on.
On a positive note, I love WP because people like us use it, most social media is frustrating to me, but maybe I need to try something new, like Medium

    1. Oh that’s a shame but glad you can still use it with data. Same, I have the same problem with social media. I haven’t heard good things about Medium to be honest, a friend of mine just stopped using it. But you can try it and see what it’s like.

  10. It’s like everything, Pooja. It has its good points, and bad points. Nothing is perfect. And I agree, I love the community too. 💕

    1. Absolutely, it has its pros and cons but I do like it the most so far 💕

  11. I agree with everything you say. As for comparing word press to social media, there is no comparison. I use Facebook and Instagram mostly to keep in contact with far away friends, Leonberger groups, and beer groups, but outside of that it seems to be just nonsense.

In my newsfeeds there’s seems to be only clickbait, bunk, dumb memes, fake news, embarrassingly stupid reels much of it from TikTok, spam, scams, and advertisement for suspect products I don’t want. I am an administrator in a number of beer groups and in one of the beer groups there are people who post so called viral videos that first of all, have nothing to do with beer and second of all, often are offensive, pornography, sales promotions, etc. I have to clean out at least 10 videos per day. Not to mention want-to-be influencers who start FB groups just to push their agendas/products/self-promotion, while stealing members photos and using them without attribution. Then there are the unintelligent and easily confused AI bots on Facebook that are removing or punishing people who are posting things that are perfectly fine, while not noticing stuff that’s actually bad. I rarely see these problems with blogs on word press. Word press is a much more adult and smarter realm than social media.

    1. Thanks so much. I don’t use FB much but I feel the same way about Instagram. I enjoy the stuff I follow but everything is sort of nonsense. And honestly, you need to share somewhat pornographic or offensive things to go viral which I’m really not okay with. Here, you can share actual content and get views.

  12. The community on WP is supportive and amazing so I’m very grateful for that.

    1. Yes, very much so and I feel the same way.

  13. Despite my bitching about some of the silly stuff, I agree with you, Pooja. I don’t bother with other social media besides blogging, because it just seems like one big headache. The majority of the people that I’ve run into are really great and I am happy with the way things flow overall.

    1. Absolutely. Yes, the glitches are annoying but this platform is still the best one I’ve used so far. People here are definitely nice for the most part and pretty supportive.

      1. Agreed.

And for the record, I will still bitch about the glitches too. 😄

        1. Oh for sure 😅

          1. Especially since I am paying out of pocket. 😄

            1. Then you have even more of a right to bitch about it lol 😂

              1. My thoughts exactly! 🤣

  14. Pooja, agree 100% about the community 😎

    1. Thanks, glad you think so too 😊

  15. It’s the site that hosts my stories and poems which are then shared with my other web pages so it’s a convenient site with a lot of features useful to professionals.

    1. Yes, it’s convenient and quite user friendly compared to other platforms I’ve used.

    1. Thanks so much!

  17. Still here? Now I’ve got tot say something witty before I stick my foot in my mouth… and I’ve always been fashionably late too. 🙂

    1. Haha being fashionably late isn’t a bad thing 😉

  18. I agree regarding the communityhse

    1. Thanks, glad you think so too.

  19. 2 things I love about WP.

    Is bloggers like you 🤗
    You makes the experience wonderful.
I love the community, it’s unbeatable.

Unlike you, I have even smaller community, but I deeply appreciate all them.

    Second as you said
    wp gave me a personality
    Or helped in discovering it.
    I am very comfortable here.

I am not like this in real life.
I call him FGW seperately, because trust me that’s a complete different person.

    1. Thanks so much. I’m happy to have met many amazing bloggers here too.

Same here, I’m so glad we found this platform. I’m different in real life to but I feel like I’m more myself on WP than in real life.

  20. I know you’ve had your frustrations with WordPress, but I’m glad you’re hanging in there, Pooja. I’m really enjoying getting to know you.

    1. Thanks so much, yes even though I’ve had my issues with WP I think it’s the best platform to use for bloggers.

  21. Very true of WP. Thanks.

    1. Thanks so much.

  22. I absolutely love WP too for the reasons you outlined. I’ve experienced a lot of personal growth in terms of my writing + mental health, and made new friends in so many countries.

    1. I’m so glad you experienced that too and I think the community here is definitely wonderful. Thanks so much.

  23. I agree with you….it’s a wonderful platform.
( even with the frustrations and constant changes lol 😬)

    1. Yes, despite the ups and downs it’s still a great platform and community 😊

  24. I agree with you about the WordPress community!

    1. It’s the best place to be on the Internet!

  25. Good or bad, I have found a platform to express myself…thank you wordpress

    1. Yes, this platform is great for sharing one’s thoughts and writing.

  26. I agree with the genuine feedback by readers here. Most of them are actually reading before leaving any comments.

    1. Yes, I think a lot of comments are much more genuine compared to social media.

  27. I share the same conclusion with you.😄
You shared very insightful things about wordpress.

As far as writing is concerned, WordPress has been the place where my writing experience started. And since am still here 2-3 years later, it means there is something special about this app.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, this is a great platform for writers and I think it helps us really improve and grow. This app is definitely special, at least to us.

  28. Yep, being able to write something longer than 144 characters is the biggest draw for me. And the comments 😀 I measure my blog by comments, not likes or follows, hahahahaha.

    1. Absolutely, you can fully express yourself and share your content. Absolutely, I think anyone can like or follow but your real audience is the one that will read and comment.

  29. I agree with everything you said, Pooja. The WordPress community is wonderful and welcoming. WordPress may have its glitches every now and then, but it’s the best platform for blogging, IMO.

    1. Thanks so much. Absolutely, WordPress has its ups and downs but it’s worth sticking around for the community. And I think it’s the best blogging platform too.

      1. You’re most welcome, Pooja.

  30. I share many of your sentiments. Having jumped around most social mediums (including a recent stint on Substack), I come back to WP. Idk if it’s because I live in the US and thus my feeds are full of the same tedious cultural debates and socio-political posturing, but WordPress seems to be the only place on the Internet that hasn’t been swallowed by #TheDiscourse. I love that I can log on and read about the regular lives of everyday people with interests and hobbies. I love that this place isn’t cluttered with influencers.

Like you, I’ll be here until they shut this place down. lol

    1. Yeah, it’s not just you I get that stuff constantly on social media too and it’s draining. It’s always super negative stuff and don’t even get me started with the comments. This place is so chill in comparison and people are much more relaxed about what they share. It’s a nice sanctuary amongst all the negativity.

    Hi

    1. Hi 👋🏼

    1. Thanks so much.

      1. Welcome 🤗

  32. WordPress is great for people who like to write.

    1. Yes and for me reading.

    2. Yes, I definitely think so.

  33. These are helpful comments. You are exercising both parts of sound critiquing–to note what’s not so good, to note what’s good. Thanks for both.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, I wanted to share the good too because I think that’s the only way to fairly share my critique.

  34. I wholeheartedly agree about the community. The people who comment on my blog are lovely people. The more regular commenters I have come to think of as friends, even though we’ve never met in the flesh.
I find on Facebook, people are all for themselves. Posts are all about themselves, on the whole. Why do I want to know what they had for dinner, or that they are wishing their child a happy 5th birthday. Don’t wish a family member happy birthday on social media. Go to see them in person. And if it’s someone who won’t see it, like your 5 year old, what’s the point.
WordPress is simple to work on, too. I don’t do a lot other than blog, but it’s super easy. A great platform

    1. Absolutely, I know exactly what you mean. Social media is much more superficial and it’s never really content that’s informative or helps one grow as a person. With WordPress, people have great content and the comments are lovely.

  35. I agree. Well written Pooja!

    1. Thanks so much!

  36. The community is the best. I’m so glad I found you! Hugs, C

    1. So glad to have found you as well thanks to WordPress!

  37. I really love the community, too. I enjoy our discussions and shares, and I’ve met some other great bloggers through you, too.

    1. Yeah, the community here is so wonderful. So glad to hear that and hope you find more great bloggers to follow through here.

      1. Not too many more though… I’m having trouble keeping up with them all. Don’t know how you do it!

        1. That’s fair, it takes a lot of time and energy. Haha I love what I do so I don’t mind!

          1. It’s good to love what you do for work!

            1. Absolutely, I’m very lucky to be able to do something I enjoy!

          2. It’s great to love what you do for work!

  38. I agree, Pooja, but community is the best! And I’m glad I met you and many other wonderful bloggers/friends. 💞

    1. Absolutely, the community here is worth staying on this platform for. Glad to have met you too, it would have been a shame to miss our on your writing 💕
