The Devil By My Side

The Devil By My Side

The Devil by my side

In him, my deepest desires I confide

“Everything will be just fine

I only need your sign”

And so I signed away my soul

To reach my one and only goal

I wanted money, power and admiration

“Okay, first we need to make you a politician

You will spread hate, fear and lies

Anyone different than the norm, you will despise”

I did just that and soon I had

Thousands of followers that believed every word I said

We destroyed everything around us

Including those that protested and made a fuss

The Devil left once I got all I wanted

The next time I saw him was on my deathbed

“Well done human

You were a successful one

Now it’s time for you to come down with me

And in Hell you will see

Everyone who blindly followed you

And believed your words to be true

You found me so many permanent residents

And as a thank you I have made arrangements”

  1. So wickedly good, Pooja <3 … Gave me chills !!!! I'm pretty sure, that's how the contract goes and where we reside once the deeds from the devil are done? I applaud you !!!!

    1. Thank you so much!

  2. This is very good, Pooja. I got goosebumps reading this.

    1. Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it.

  3. Scrooge meets Dorian Gray!

  4. Most excellent, Pooja. You really nailed the vibe of this image. 👏👏

    1. Thanks so much, glad the creator of the image think so 😅

  5. Very inventive, Pooja!

    1. Thanks so much!

  6. Simply beautiful! so realistic and I like the ending of the poem, the entrapment of the politician with his final destination a place of torture by those he tortured. It is a very good poem that reflects aspects of greed and obsession with power that often lead to a destructive path…

    1. Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I think when we’re obsessed with money and power it leads us down a bad path.

  7. I love your writing to these prompts!! Great writing, Pooja.
Remember I recently commented that I was having a terrible writer’s block, or fear of writing. I tried to overcome that and wrote today. I just had to write through the frustration. Blogging is a wonderful way to keep going!

    1. Thank you so much! I’m so glad to hear that and I hope you’re able to keep writing and get out of the writers block. Blogging is definitely great because you can write whatever you like without too much pressure.

  8. A very ponderous poem. Unfortunately, politicians accomodate the delusions and prejudices of the populace. It’s often the best way to get votes. It goes both ways.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, I think so too.

  9. Wow, what a wonderful way to start my morning. Loved it ❤️

    1. Thanks so much, so glad to hear that ❤️

  10. Love this! And the subtle twist is that the devil never needs to do a damn thing—the evil that the politician and his followers embrace is already in their human selves. They just give each other permission to celebrate it. The devil had better watch out because the politician’s supporters aren’t going to torture him. They’re going to make him the new Devil.

    1. I think what’s even more interesting is the nuance that the real devil is actually the greedy and selfish human…had he not desired these evil things, evil advice or an evil path would not have been created for him…makes me think of Macbeth!

    2. Thanks so much! I’ve always thought that. As humans, we can be quite evil and I think it wouldn’t take much for us to turn on one another. Haha yes, his followers may just be waiting for him and make him the new Devil.

  11. Yep, that’s a guy to avoid alright.

    1. Absolutely, avoid him at all costs.

  12. Fantastic response to the prompt! 👏
I do believe the soul can be sold for money and power.

    1. Thank you so much. I think so too and I think many people do sell their soul for money and power. Maybe not literally but they do evil things for it.

      1. Unfortunately yeah.

  13. This one’s a banger, Pooja ❤️

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  14. Politics is my second love and what I studied in school and the political scientist in me loves this!

    1. I studied history so pretty similar! So glad you enjoyed it.

  15. Love this!!

    Great work.

I didn’t noticed that no theme Thursday is a thing.
I thought, images pops up and you write about them.

However, that also means less whining.

    1. Thanks so much! Yes, it’s something Kevin created and it’s been so fun to create content around the images.
Haha don’t worry always expect whining on Lifesfinewhine 😅

  16. Fantastic one, thanks.

    1. Thank you so much.

  17. They say you should be careful what you wish for…

      1. most welcome 🤍

  19. Thank you! Satan is real and hates everyone, even those who follow him into destruction. Only by loving and following the Lord Jesus is a person spiritually safe for eternity.

    1. Yup, we always need to be careful of evil trying to make us do the wrong thing.

  20. Terrifying and yet, sadly true.

    1. Yes, unfortunately so.

Sounds like a lot going on in politics today. Well written!

    1. Yup, that’s what inspired it!

  22. Oh, yes! Hauntingly dark and scary. Those who sell their soul to the devil must face the consequences.

    1. Thanks and yes absolutely, even if it’s not in life we face the consequences in death.

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja.

  23. I love this! Very well-written poem, Pooja.

  27. so much for trump
    and his maga moronsz

    1. Lol yup, they’re so cringe

  28. These words are real Pooja. I think a lot of the politicians here in the US are living in this reality right now.

    1. It’s so sad, most politicians will do anything for money and power.

  29. Clever and fun!

    1. Thanks so much!

  30. Great poem to go with this pic and damn how scary of a thought that he will thank us for bringing people to him! Eye opening for sure! LOL

  36. Giving into ‘temptation’ is Devil.

    1. Sure is.

  37. Interesting poem, loved it.

    1. Thank you so much.

  38. Such a devilishly fun read. The bugger is in the fine print as always. Everyone has to pay the pied piper on the back end. Still, no matter the cost, many people will take whatever deal is on offer if it grants them their wishes. Eternal damnation is a small price to pay for some people. 🤔 I loved this poem, Pooja G. 😜

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, people would do anything to achieve their goals even if it meant an eternity in hell. Thank you ☺️🙏

  39. I really like this… It’s good piece and just very intriguing

    1. Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed it.

  40. Wow, this poem is like a dark journey into the depths of human desire and the consequences that follow. The imagery and storytelling are so vivid, it’s like watching a movie unfold in my mind. Your ability to capture the allure of temptation and the eventual reckoning is truly impressive. Great job!

    1. Thank you so much for your wonderful compliments. I’m so glad you enjoyed the poem so much!

  41. That was an awesome poem you wrote, Pooja! Really, it was amazing!

    1. Thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed it! 😊
